Last PC version of a game you played that was consequentially different to console?

Behold the power of titles.
Anyway long have there been divisions between different aspects of game playing devices. Arcade vs home console, console vs weaker console, console vs Amiga in the 16 bit era, and today we are still somewhat under the console vs PC paradigm.

However the nature console vs PC has changed, quite considerably at that over the last few generations. At one point one playing a PC version of a title might well be playing something rather different to the console versions, gameplay and start quality of resources. This magnitude of difference changed somewhat as the years rolled on, some might say for the worse as consoles then effectively started limiting scope of PC efforts (see Deus Ex Invisible War, or maybe the end of the PS360 and simultaneous failure of Vista and thus DirectX10). To that end what majorly different game or game altering change made a console version of a game radically different to a PC one in more recent times?

Resolution can count, however it would really have to be significant. Framerate even more so. Draw distance is something more to contemplate in this -- operation flashpoint, which often takes place at significant ranges, being an example of one here.
Mod support is an obvious one but at the same time is it that significant and also being free and easy I am generally inclined to skip it.
Mouse vs controller is a thing that encompasses some quite radical aspects of design but in the end autoaim et al get you most of the way there in most games. Still if it is a thing you reckon you can back up then by all means. On the other hand comparing some of the real time strategy games for the likes of the PS1 to the PC (WarGames: Defcon 1 being one of the go to examples -- PS1 was something of a vehicle combat game with some occasional AI partners, PC was a straight up real time strategy).

Handheld vs everything else is what many focus on, or inter generational ports when those are applicable (usually 1 or 2 years around the launch of a new one, maybe with a "oh wow because it is popular in some poor country we saw a version of some sports game/music game released 4 years on"). However I am less interested in this here for this thread -- we can and have done many discussions on the "lesser" ports and handheld games, even intergenerational handheld games (compare Pirates of the Caribbean on the GBA and DS, Tony Hawk on the GBC and GBA and possibly DS, any number of late stage GBA games that also saw DS entries). However this is not what we are after so make another thread if you want that.

We are however accepting things from the bizarre period wherein the console exclusives of the PS3 and 360, even some of the earliest, a few years back had a habit of appearing on the PC almost out of nowhere.

Examples is probably what we want to contemplate here, though from older consoles so you can get some idea of how different things used to be.
One of my favourite N64 games is Forsaken

Its PC version (there was also something of a remaster released more recently for PC and Xbone)

remaster

PS1 version just for giggles

You probably have to play a lot of these to see how different they are too.

Sticking with the N64 vs PC
Turok
N64

PC original and remaster

Original xbox Sniper Elite

PC

Xbox 360
Some might say this was just a bad port, however if end results are what matters

Does Doom 3 even need to be mentioned on the OG Xbox? It's the vastly worst-version of the game, having some parts completely cut out of it.
So a 15 year old port of a 16 year old game to a lesser console is the last time you experienced a truly significant difference between PC and console games?

Hello. 1111smiley_emoticons_seb_zylinder.gif

Resident Evil 3 (2020)

+ some "new" Locations
+ of Course better Graphics than the PSX Version from 1999.:P
+ ???

- The Gameplay and Story is very different from the Original on the PSX.
- And,the worst Thing,it misses many Parts from the original Story.
- "Some" Main Character was also shown terribly illegible.

Where Resident Evil 2 (2019) in Comparison to the PSX Original made it very better,Part 3 is worse than bad.

(I only can compare such Games, because of no actual Video Console).

Thank you.:)

I don't know if we can count remakes like that. I know I had Forsaken up there and Turok but I was looking more for those occasions where the PC port either was so much worse, so much different or seriously outstripped the other version.

I first played Resident Evil 2 on the PC (indeed it was my first Resident Evil game as I had missed out on 1 somehow -- most people I knew had PS1s and it was the talk of the school as I imagine it was everywhere but my friends and I all missed it) way back when the PS1 was still current. Was similar enough to most other versions I played on the PS1 (or at least the dual shock version), N64 and gamecube and the like.

Well... Then you better buckle up for my response, my man. Because there's no dispute in my case...

The pc version was, is and always will be superior than the port that was produced a year later on the Playstation.
The original Playstation, that is. I... Don't really know why a game that is so much a cornerstone to the pc master race ideology that the master race creed of said pc gamers might not even have come to fruition.
Meanwhile, console owners pretend an equal 'ish kind of equality, which might or might not be true... But the console port might be considered proof that such equality is bollocks.

Because this game is MEANT to be played with a mouse.
Or rather... Games, as the game I've bought and played this year is along, long, LLLLOOONNNGGG overdue remaster of a classic.

... Which is despite all this somewhat surprising to be good because it is enslaved by the clutches of evil itself. But it IS good. Well... If you don't count 'good' as an inferior naming of the masterpiece.
Or masterpieces, because it's a double whammy of a game.

Ladies and gentlemen... I have played...

... The one and only sequel to the game that started it all

(if you're wearing a hat, please remove it to show respect)

... And overcame greatness in the original to find new ways to describe perfection

:bow::bow::bow:RED ALERT :bow::bow::bow:

... I'd say more about the console port, but it's a few ballparks in a lower dimension. So... Let's just say it didn't live up to the huge ass shadows cast by the game.

Yes,maybe my Expectations were too high after the perfect Resident Evil 2 Remake.....so I "expected" it also for the 3rd Part...that was a big Mistake. So that was the Reason to "count" it here for this Thread too.

The Sims 2 and the various versions available of it across different platforms differ greatly. The PS2 version was very different from the PC version, the PSP one even more different, and hey one can mention the GBA one too.

Just Cause. The PC version is a port of XBOX/PS2, while the same day was launched the 360 version, with MUCH better graphics (still, the same crappy gameplay).

Spider-Man 2. The PC version is a pretty bad game, while the PS2/XBOX versions are among the best Spider-Man games ever developed (in my opinon the second best, after Ultimate Spider-Man).

007 Nightfire. The PS2/GC version, again, is among the best 007 games, while the PC version is a pretty average GoldSrc game (aka Half Life mod).

Exhumed. The PSX version and especially the Saturn versions are great games with amazing graphics for each system, while the PC version is just an average BUILD game (aka Duke Nuke 3D mod).

Pretty much every single PS-PC multi-platform game from late nineties. All of them were 1:1 ports of the Playstation version, sometimes with the same problems (fixed point geometry, lack of z-buffer, etc). There are much better versions of some of those games on Nintendo 64: Army Men: Air Assault, Micro Machines V3, A Bugs Life, etc.

The last worse PC ports I can remember were games from Omega Force, like Pirate Warriors 3. I think Pirate
Warriors 4 was the same as the PS4 version, but I'm not sure.

Not on PC, rather on PS2:

I played Virtua Racing on PS2 and it was a lot of fun, what kept annoying me was the screeching drift noise and how the F1 car was drifting at every corner. The original version and Switch didn't have this "feature," I guess SEGA wanted to make it somewhat more realistic.

SEGA Rally 95 on PS2 is amazing, though. I can't complain except for the fact the timer runs always out before I reach the next checkpoint. lol

on the PSX
Wish I'd own that console, but the darn thing is so expensive.

Heh, yeah.

Weird how they never released PSX in the West because it would have been a huge success.
Sony massively overpriced the psx in Japan and as a result sales of the system were nonexistent which made Sony think the machine would never sell in the west. Had the price been cheaper then it would have sold a shit load of systems.

Pretty much every console version of Outrun is much better than the PC version. But what is wrong with the pc version. The main problem with this game is size, the main car is absolutely tiny in comparison to the other cars, and it makes you feel like Alison in wonderland. Also the game is so easy to complete, because the car is so small the road is huge and you don't need to break once. The sound (or lack of) is bad, just simple 1 note music from the pc speaker even though the actual sound samples are on the disk. There is also a severe lack of colour used. Don't get me wrong it's not as bad as the god awful amiga port but it's pretty close. You know the PC version of a game is bad when the ZX Spectrum version is concidered better.

I've recently-ish picked up Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition on Steam, after previously having only played it on the Switch. And my goodness. Sure I liked the Switch ports, but this game was so obviously made for a PC experience, and that really shows on other consoles. It's just so much more natural, and frankly better.
