So I see a lot of posts about black screen no boot, but I think mine is a little different.

Backstory: My Switch's SD card reader stopped working. I purchased a new one and tried to install it. Once I took the original SD card reader module off I noticed that one of the ground pins for the FPC connector on the motherboard was missing.

I looked up a local micro soldering business that is well known for fixing this issue. He was able to remove the old FPC and solder a new one on, but could not test because my switch no longer turns on. The switch probably had not been charged since leaving it at the repair shop for the SD card work to be done.

Switch Info: V1 unpatched, OFW 5.1.0 on sysnand, CFW 10.1.0 on emunand, using SX OS latest release with SX Pro dongle for loading payloads.

I don't believe I ever placed it in autoRCM mode because I have to use the jig every time.

Things I have tried/shop tried:

1. Replaced the video IC on the motherboard (because he thought that was the problem no video came up)
2. I charged the switch over night and tried a combination of holding power for 30 seconds and then pressing power, pressing vol + and - and power at same time for 30 seconds - no result
3. I tried bypassing the battery by disconnecting it and plugging in the USB-C charger plugged into the wall outlet but switch still did not boot
4. Docking the Switch results in a green light that goes out, then comes back on flashing green rapidly

The guy at the shop also attached a meter in between the USB-C port and the charger. The meter showed that the switch was taking the charge, but no battery icon shows on the switch. No backlight. The board was tested for shorts and none were found.

Any help would be much appreciated sorry for long post but wanted to make sure I got all the details in.

Might seem like an obvious suggestion, but have you tried connecting to a pc and seeing if its somehow got into autorcm?

Was your switch working before you took it in for repair?
Trying to understand at what point things went wrong might help more.
You could also try testing every chip on the motherboard for shorts.
If you havent already, I suggest starting with M92T36 chip, and checking the capacitors.
Just to be clear when you say black screen, nothing turns on? Or just a black lighted background?

Yes my Switch was working before leaving it for repair except that the SD card was no longer reading.

The repair shop checked for shorts and found none.

Black screen, doesn’t turn on. No backlight at all.

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

and nvidia is already doing ARM

i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
