So this has been around for a bit now, we started making it a while after tinydb.eiphax.tech went down, but I just realized we never made a thread here for it so here it is.

Universal-DB

An online database of DS and 3DS homebrew

 db.universal-team.net

Universal-DB is a website where you can easily find and download DS and 3DS homebrew, its features include:
  • Integration with Universal-Updater for easy downloading without even needing a computer
  • Checks for updates several times per day to avoid outdated information
  • Variety of options for sorting and searching to make finding apps easy
  • QR codes with images and version numbers to make it easy to tell which app it's for and know it's the latest version, nightly and prerelease build QRs are colored distinctly as well to avoid confusion
  • Screenshots, downloads, release notes, links to the source, official website, and wiki, and more are all easily accessible from app pages
  • RSS feeds to let you know about updates
  • The site has a dark theme :P (based on the browser's dark mode preference)
  • The site is translated to several languages (if it's missing one you know then feel free to let me know and I can add it to the Crowdin project)
Currently we have all of the homebrew TinyDB had (minus some that the developers requested removed) and several that have come out since it went down, plus most recent DS homebrew and a few older ones. If you'd like to request something be added please either make a request issue on the GitHub or ask in this thread, preferably if you are involved in the app's development as we will remove it if the developer requests.

If you want to contact us then either this thread or our Discord server are best.

The User Interface, while could use some works to make it look even more modern, looks better than most homebrew databases out there, which all use stock material design. Good job on making this a unique looking website, with the bonus of DS Homebrew as well.

PS: for those of you who care about system resources, the site works without JS.

Delete the "Universal-Updater" folder (located on "3ds" folder) of your SD card and try again

Thanks for the reply, my 3DS cannot get out of sleep mode (luma will not work)
Meanwhile the battery drains, I am going to take your advice.

Update: Nothing different happened. Same error.

Is your 3DS connected to the internet? It seems to crash for me if it can't connect to the internet on start currently. Also custom DNS and/or proxy may cause problems, I know they have in the past, I think DNS is fine now but proxy may still cause issues.

I'm sure my 3DS was connected.

Well, seems like it has been all due to internet all this time. Thanks a ton for helping man, appreciate it.

This is a useful tool. Thanks!

Any chance of making it require parental controls when launching, like FBI and Homebrew channel do?

I'm not sure if it is based on some kind of internal rating or flag, but on my son's 3ds, where i have parental controls, those apps require the PIN, while universal updater launches wihtout asking for it. It would be nice as a safeguard.

Ah, I didn't even realize that was a thing some homebrew apps did. Just added it (with the same restriction level as FBI and the homebrew launcher) so it's in the latest nightly or will be in the next release when that comes out. (which will probably be soon™, no ETA though)

Can you add Retroarch to the list?
I remember having problems with RetroArch in the past as they host the builds on their buildbot site which neither has static URLs for the latest nor (afaik) an API to get the latest. (ex. http://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.9.0/nintendo/3ds/RetroArch_3dsx.7z)
Since they do make GitHub releases (without downloads) though I can pull the latest version number from there then format string it into the downloads, kinda annoying to have that just for this though so if anyone knows if they do have some easy way of getting the latest download URL of the latest let me know.

Unfortunately it seems to crash Universal-Updater while extracting at the moment, probably due to the massive size of the archives ~70MB compressed and ~500MB uncompressed, but I can at least add it to the website for now I suppose.

PSA to any homebrew developers that see this, I've added Unique IDs (the part of the title ID that you set in the RSF file for making CIAs) to all of the apps that have them.

Currently* it shows on the 3DS app list and app pages for apps that have CIAs, I might make a special little page for easier searching, but this should make it a bit easier to make sure your unique IDs are actually unique. I've checked every single 3DS app on U-DB that has a CIA including the ones without source code so it's got a few you won't find by just searching GitHub for the ID like I usually do, though that may still be worth doing as well since not all 3DS apps are on U-DB.

*in a couple hours, it hasn't done a full no-cache update yet as of posting

Hopefully that makes it a little easier to be sure your unique IDs are actually unique :P

One of the people, @SuperSaiyajinVoltZ is also one of the main devs on it and several other people have helped. He did more of Universal-Updater itself where I've done more of the supporting things, like Universal-DB.

I'm not super great at coding advice, but imo the single best advice is just do something. It doesn't matter what, make a website, make a Python script, jump right into 3DS homebrew, whatever. Pick something you personally find interesting and figure out how to do it, don't start too big but just find something you think you could do and give it a try. The first things you do will probably suck (mine sure did lol), but the best way to learn is to do, my first homebrew coding was little pull requests to TWiLight Menu++ and GodMode9i improving on small issues I had with them.
