AMD's reveal for the new GPUs just finished and things are looking very good for them.

The RX 6900XT is better than the RTX 3090 in some cases, and is only $1000 in comparison.

The 6800XT varies around the RTX 3080, some cases slightly lower and some slightly higher, all for $50 less than the 3080 at $650.

The Zen 3 CPUs are also looking pretty damn good, single threaded performance better than Intel is what is claimed, and not sure how far it's true, but a leak of sorts from a benchmark leaderboard website shows the 5600X beating Intel's 10900K at single threaded performance.

Overall things are looking very good for AMD, I can see both Intel and Nvidia has a lot of work to do, and I expect Nvidia to respond with new GPUs or price changes.

As someone who got a 3080, I'm still happy with it and the 6800XT is about the same and just slightly higher in some cases.

In any case, what are your thoughts guys? :)

I'll wait until actual benchmarks that aren't from the company come out before I really say for their GPUs, but their claims are certainly above what I expected. The "smart access memory" feature sounds interesting, giving the CPU direct access to the GPU memory for games is an interesting way to try and eke out a bit of extra performance. Not quite so sure their power draw claims are 100% accurate as well, given AMD's GPU history, so I'm curious to see how accurate their claims are there as well. I'll bet it peaks about as high as a 3080's stock when it's boosting/when you got that "magic overclock button!" enabled :P

As for CPUs, same thing really but I'm not quite so skeptical about those given Ryzen's history. Whether it can keep that single threaded lead when Rocket Lake comes out though I'm not so sure, but Zen 3 will certainly be better off in general I expect anyways.

Nvidia knew this was about to happen so they cancelled the higher VRAM versions of the 30 cards and will probably counter with Ti/Super versions instead. It doesn't really matter which has the lead now it's all fantastic for consumers as there is finally real competition in graphics cards again.

As for CPU, I think Intel will constantly be playing catchup for a while now and that worries me as it means AMD can increase prices.

The performance doesn't seem better as far as CPU goes, it just seems like they're on par on Intel. Most of these are single performance increase from the graphs. That's not AMD saying "We're better than Intel" that's AMD saying "We've caught up to them" Also there is no way a 5600X is beating out the 10900k, be careful where you get your sources from. AMD's own graphs at they keynote showed that the 5900X was barely above the 10900k.

AMD actually competing in the high end GPU market is great, the cards seem competitive and an agnostic ray tracing solution is good. And it seems that's AMD is also creating a solution to counter Nvidia's DLSS which is huge. Ray tracing isn't going to be as good as Nvidia's but the tech is still in infancy and it's nice to see AMD catching up.

Competition is good for consumers, hopefully AMD can strengthen their drivers as they seem hit or miss on setups and that can be really damaging.

I am getting a 3080 anyway, we're getting better cards in a year or two so meh
(still better than my 1060)
That's fine as long as you're not on 4K.. nevermind 2 years new games like Watch Dogs Legion are already demanding more than 10GB if you want to crank up the settings.

Looks like the leak was right for the most part, the 5600X is indeed better than the 10900K most cases.

Check 2:59.

Great, because consumism will further reduce the price of older gear I may actually want to buy

I've already seen some relatively cheap, the 3900x can be regularly found for £390 and I've seen the 3700x for as low as £200.

Don't expect motherboards to go down that much though since 400 and 500 series are still supported.

Damn that's pretty impressive.
I didn't think AMD could pull a move like that and just straight bring a product that challenges Nvidia in the High end and budget CPUs that challenge Intel's gaming flagship.

It's a nice thing to be wrong about though lol
