Phil Spencer hints at lower priced Xbox hardware, xCloud streaming sticks and "Game Pass Platinum"

As Xbox prepares for the launch of its next-gen consoles, the company might already have additional console hardware in the works to be released in the near future. Speaking to Stratechery, head of Xbox, Phil Spencer teased this possibility and more.

“I think you’re going to see lower priced hardware as part of our ecosystem when you think about streaming sticks and other things that somebody might want to just go plug into their TV and go play via xCloud,” Phil Spencer said. “You could imagine us even having something that we just included in the Game Pass subscription that gave you an ability to stream xCloud games to your television and buying the controller.”

In the same interview, Phil Spencer teased the idea of an “Xbox Game Pass Platinum” tier which guarantees access to new Xbox hardware.

As The Verge noted, this being Spencer’s first public mention of streaming TV sticks for xCloud implies that such devices might soon be released.

What do you think of the idea? Would you get a streaming stick for xCloud?

I wouldnt say that to many Switch games though, which the publisher use a smaller NAND than the game allows to save some buck.

Yeah, that game pulling that crap really pissed me off. And right at the most intense part of the game, too.

There are many other games that do this too. Starlink and Spyro Trilogy do this too. Borderlands collection puts the original game on cartridge and the other 2 games you have to redeem the included codes which lock them to your Nintendo account to download them. The Spyro download is over 9GB as it the Starlink game. Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel much bigger each.

I sold mega man legacy collection and x legacy collection on ebay a week or two ago, but it was technically half a game as it was the two part version. part 2 was download vouchers. I heard the ps4 version and the switch version in Japan didn't have vouchers, which pisses me off.

I'm glad the Zero and XZ collection I bought shipped complete, eventhough they're just GBA and DS roms.

I don't mind digital, but it does pose problems when you try to sell something that's missing content. I made it clear in the description even though it was being searched for as parts 1 and 2. no one replied saying that part 2 was missing, so I guess they did read that first. I got $15 for each with me paying shipping, so maybe $24 total, which sounds about right.

I hate it when a buyer doesn't fully read the eBay listing. Has that happen once and the seller opened a dispute which after chatting with eBay support they sided with me since his complaint about the difference in the item was explained in the description I provided. I always fully read that stuff as I don't want to be that guy that paid an absurd amount of money on a 360 box.

speaking of ebay, some games are going for a pretty nice amount atm, because they're out of print. hyrule warriors and ys 8 to be exact. I got $71 for hyrule warriors, and ebay says the average selling price for ys 8 is $80. I already have the games digitally, so I'm selling off my retail collection. I didn't realize ys 8 went for that much, since it's kinda a niche series, but one of my friends said he had to buy it digital, because it was no where to be found at the store.

Game streaming as it is now is awful. AS long as the game is processed server side its just a garbage idea. If it was a good idea pirates would be doing it with ads, but its just not. Eventually I can see games being stored server side and processed client side, but thats not possible for console quality games yet..

everyone is going with streaming i guess, dear god.
Everyone except apple is trying it, which is telling. Apple doesnt try to make things just for the heck of it, they actually think of customer experience first (despite the criticism some people have about them, they cant deny this). We have too many companies run by suits who dont really understand what makes sense. Look at what pirates do, streaming video is big, digital only games are big, streaming music, absolutely no streaming of games.
