Also, people were saying there's not a lot of games but that's really false:
- Uncharted Golden Abyss
- LittleBigPlanet
- GravityRush (yeah it's on PS4 but it controls better on the Vita)
- Tearaway (same as GravityRush, though Unfolded isn't exactly the same game)
- God of War
- Ratchet & Clank
- Sly Cooper
- Undertale
- Minecraft
- Terraria
- Stardew Valley
- Persona
- Need For Speed
- Wipeout
- Modnation Racers
- ...

the vita is a solid system. build quality is good for either phat or slim from what I've seen. you can play psp games on it as well. and, we can now use micro sd. if we still had to use those memory cards, I'm not sure if it would be worth it. that and the lack of caring by sony are probably the two main reasons the system flopped.

The combination of DS + 3ds + GBA (all natively) + PS1 with low enough input lag that's it's almost as good as native on the 3ds makes the Vita look like an absolute clown show. 3ds vs Vita library is like comparing Steve Buscemi to GOD.
3DS still struggles with PS1 emulation most of the times, plus there's no PSP games for it ;)
And in performance, the 3DS is just a meme... 10MB of VRAM. Plus that awful resolution... Citra makes the experience much better.

Android phones/tablets can play PlayStation without any issues. That's one of the consoles that nearly every media device can handle now.

I downloaded every PS game I wanted to play on my PS2 with FMCB, but too lazy to set it up. lol And not that interested anymore.

3ds doesn't struggle with PS1 for me for anything I've tried on it. The more demanding games like Soul Reaver have performance issues, but if you get the latest Retroarch nightly and change audio from dsp to dsp_threaded, it's basically full speed even on those highly demanding titles.

one thing I should mention that I haven't seen anyone else mention is that the 1k systems have a proprietary charging cable and port. I've never owned one, and I've always wondered how it connected to a pc unless it has a micro usb port or something. that's one reason I prefer the 2k system. that and internal memory.

Phones can also do DS and 3DS just fine. But they're really not as comfortable as a dedicated handled. Unless you buy one of those stupid phones with integrated buttons. + the fact that emulation really lowers your battery life on them... Where a handheld will generally last longer...

The 1K models have a proprietary to USB-A cable so you can connect it just fine.
I'd argue that the usb charging port would be picking your poison, as MicroUSB isn't really solid but can be easily found anywhere where the proprietary cable is a durable beast (so tough it's hard to unplug it at first) but it would be more rare to replace... If only they had a USB-C port instead of MicroUSB...

yeah, my friend told me about the failure rate of micro usb. I use it a lot with plugging and unplugging my minis and retron. I do the same with their hdmi cable. I also own a neo geo mini which uses hdmi mini, so I have an adapter for it.

Thank you all for your insights.

I can see very different opinions here. Will have to give it a good think before deciding. :D

Vita's version of MGS HD Collection would be another good reason for me. But I also have these games in my PS2 and Xbox 360 collections.

I'd say take one, they're becoming more and more rare each day, so you could always resell it later. You can find some at around 100€ in good shape ;)

Unless you're rolling in dough to waste, you'll probably regret blowing $200 on a Vita instead of buying a switch lite for the inevitable CFW haxor. It appears you already have too many consoles for several humans to play, so I'm not really sure it matters at this point.

No, I wouldn't want to waste more than £60.00. And I know it's a low budget, but wouldn't bother to even think about spending more in a console that is turning a decade old. :)

A vita is definitely better than a Swiss Lite when we talk about hacks, build quality etc... I never saw the interest for the lite to be honest, it's a cheap, still not really portable switch that can't even Switch. You'd be better off with a real switch compared to the lite :/

True! And should I go for the PCH-1000 or PCH-2000 model? :D
The 1000 is the best quality out of the 2. But it might be harder to find in a great shape. Though if you're lucky, you might have a later unit which doesn't burn-in... One thing to consider would be the proprietary cable, but i can tell you it's robust as hell.

The 1000 has a better build quality overall and an OLED screen, which looks gorgeous. It has a better battery on darker games (as opposed to the Slim which has a better battery on brighter ones). It's a bit big but ergonomics-wise it depends on your hand size... The only thing to be noted aswell would be that the PS, Start and Select buttons are harder to press at first, but you get used to it ;)
Oh and you need to get a small Memorycard to hack it, a 4GB-8GB would be enough

I totally agree. The portability of the Switch Lite is not that different when compared to the original model.

And, as you said, it can't switch. So why is it called switch anyway?

I won't even discuss the difference in the price. You can find a brand new original Switch selling at £279.00. I've never found a Switch Lite cheaper than £185.00 (brand new).

Thanks for the detailed information! Overall, both options are good, but the 1000 would be the best choice! Thank you for your advice. :)

It has the greatest dpad of any console/handheld ever.

And this is coming from someone who recognized the awesomeness of the GB Micro dpad in the flesh until the Vita dethroned it.

Many thanks for sharing your opinion hardware-wise! A great D-pad definitely plays an important part in the gaming experience. :)

Just bought my PS Vita today! It's a PCH-1003. I've already installed CFW 3.60 HENkaku/enso + Adrenaline. And I'm lovin' it! :D

Now I just need no buy a new memory card with a large capacity, as the one that came with the console is the 4GB version from Sony.

Thanks a lot to everyone that shared their thoughts in this post. It helped me to made my decision.

No regrets so far!
