Devil May Cry 5's Special Edition: Capcom has "no plans" to bring to PC.

Recently, at Sony's PS5 showcase, Devil May Cry 5 was announced to be getting a special edition, which showed off Vergil as a new playable character, Legendary Dark Knight mode (where each stage has mobs of enemies as opposed to the usual layouts), and Turbo mode where the game runs at 1.2x speed, all of which have become staples of past Special Editions in the franchise. The update also seeks to add ray-tracing support to the title, greatly improving reflections and lighting effects.

The content is stated to launch digitally with the PS5's, however keen eyed fans noticed that the PC version wasn't specifically mentioned in the trailer. The video's description and Capcom's statements on the official DMC5 twitter say the same thing on the matter, namely that "Vergil will be offered as paid DLC for Xbox One, PS4 and PC at a later date." A relief, one might say, except that this only mentions Vergil as DLC, not the Special Edition contents. Surely it would be sane to expect that it meant all of the Special Edition content would be included when they say "Vergil DLC." After all, Vergil has never been distributed separately from a Special Edition in the past; they were always one and the same expansion. Still, fans were uneasy with the lack of specificity, and many began to speculate, on twitter and the Steam discussion boards, that the Special Edition might not be coming to PC right away.

Looking to the game's official website, one could see both the Special Edition and Vergil listed separately, with Steam listed as one of the distribution platforms for Vergil, but not for the Special Edition.

This only stoked fans' anxieties, and PC players were clamoring for clarification from Capcom. That clarification recently came via a statement Capcom made to Eurogamer, but the answer wasn't what people wanted to hear.

"Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is specifically being developed and optimised to benefit the system architecture and leap in processing power offered by PS5 and Xbox Series X, so we're focusing on these platforms. At present, there are no plans to release DMC5SE on PC."

Considering the fact that PC equipment is undeniably just as apt, if not moreso, to handle the touted improvements like ray tracing, 3D audio, faster load times, and a higher amount of enemies onscreen which are advertised in the Special Edition of DMC5, players on that platform are understandably feeling lied to and slighted. The Steam discussion board is alight with fans voicing their strong disapproval of this decision, with many PC players leaving negative reviews for the game over the matter, and warning potential buyers of the game who might not know of the situation and are expecting the Special Edition to come to the PC version alongside consoles.

At the time of writing, the Steam review aggregate hasn't dropped below "very positive", but it's clear from Steam's built-in analytics how many negative reviews have come in over the past few hours as a result of the statement. Additionally, the percent of positive reviews has dropped to 85% at the time of writing.

It's unclear how Capcom will choose to respond to this going forward, however it's pertinent to remember that DmC (the reboot by Ninja Theory) never got its Definitive Edition contents brought to the Steam version, and that arguably contained improvements much more significant than those of DMC5's Special Edition.

Well, when Capcom said that they didn't have plans to bring over the Special Edition to PC, it was asked in the context of DLC for the base game. What they're saying here is that they have no plans to bring over any of the Special Edition content in any form, DLC, free update, re-release, or anything else.

Disappointing, but The Last Remnant was especially appalling. They yanked the PC version and gave it nothing from the remaster.

I didn't care about this, but after seeing that absolute embarrassing pathetic quote:

Just..wow. What a joke.

Great way to get people to double dip, you buy the game on next gen, then an even better version comes out on PC. Well, in this case, triple dip?

What's especially appalling is that we now know that the PS5 is BC with 99% of the PS4's library. I mean, are people going to pay $70 (or whatever the amount is in your country) plus tax just to play as Vergil when they can get the OG for a whole lot less?

Agreed. I'm really worried about the price hike too tbh. 60 bucks is already too much to spend on a game, and in Europe they're upping it to fucking 80. Funny too how this entire gen is literally a farce. All this talk about SSDs, as if that was ever the limit of new games, and yet they keep backporting the games, lmao.

It makes you wonder about how these companies turn a profit when they depend on re-releases as opposed to outputting a varied catalog of games back in the days of the first two PlayStations

Like, you had a bunch of weird one-offs or short-lived ideas from Capcom like Demento/Haunting Ground, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and others that wouldn't have even been considered today just because of the costs of making games nowadays brings so many risks if they fail.

Just like how Square Enix has "no plans" to bring FFXVI to PC.. gotcha, Capcom ;)

I'm getting a bad feeling about this...are we entering a second 2000's era dark age when it comes to PC ports?

I highly doubt it. In time it will be available to PC. That or someone will probably port a mod or something to it. It's really just a matter of time. Knowing game companies they'll milk the shit out of this cow.

B-but they're focused on the new cutting edge capabilities that are only available on next gen consoles and that PC can't do!! It literally can't happen!!

Gaming has massive turnover. Each generation brings in millions of customers who didn't own previous systems.

And you have lots of people who stop at X system here because they don't have as much time to play games as they used to due to jobs, getting married, having kids, limited income, gaming being more of a luxury, and the fact that, outside of some of the rarer games, a lot of older games are still dirt cheap if you know where to look. Like, I have an older brother who stopped at the Xbox 360 hasn't played many games due to being married and busy with work to make ends meet due to his wife's job's income drying up thanks to the lockdowns. He says it'd be nice to own the Xbox One, but he just doesn't have a lot of time to play video games anymore, and while he played the Switch for a little bit, he seems to have tapered off of it lately.

I guess they might port later on, as they said "at present".

Might be their ideia of hyping up PC players of when finale comes out on PC to boost sales..

But who knows?? They never released Resident Evil Code Veronica and Umbrella Chronicles on PC, so unfortunately this also might be the case :(.

Simple: rip the stuff directly from the console versions, port it to PC, along with a message in the Readme of the mod that tells Crapcom to get fucked!
C'mon, we all know Crapcom is a money bitch, this will be a timed exclusive made with $ony, it will come as dlc on Steam as soon as contract expires!
