Hardware Nintendo 3DS - Creating new home managment - lost all my applications

Hello all,

I'm having an odd issue with my New 3ds. I'm running Luma, sys version 11.10.0-43U.
When launching the system, I was prompted with something along the lines of "creating new home management" and losing all SD installed apps on the home screen.

Checking the SD card on a PC shows me this

The folder has been renamed to ! and a new folder has been made in its place? I am not sure how this happened. Has this issue happened to anyone and is there way to recover?

@SMVB64 Did you format your console or did you made something weird to your console previously to that issue? Are you using an SD card from another 3DS console or it has been always the same?

It seems your console SD card is corrupted or something like that (because that short folder name isn't normal at all)

Then, perharps you must analyze it throught H2TestW and reformat it (FAT32 format). In fact, you can try this better:

• TurdPooCharger's quadruple format

If after all, the problem persists, then you should use a new SD card

Edit: I forgot to say that you must copy the actual content of your SD card before analyze/reformat it and later copy all from back to the SD.

Thank you for your replies, I will definitely be checking out the links, especially the one pertaining to the fixing the <ID0> Nintendo 3DS folder.

I will get back to you how the progress goes, I have just received my new SD card and currently running verification checks atm.

The issue I'm dealing with is <ID0> parent folder now has 2 <ID1> folders. Posted below is the after and before

This happened after turning my 3DS on, there was no system format.
Data is readable and the Nintendo 3DS folder has now been transferred to a new SD card verified with H2testw.

Note= the folder with ! contains all my data and the new folder only contains an extdata folder

I just want to verify that I am on the correct steps moving forward.

Following your guide so far, I have downloaded and extracted CFW starter kit to root of the new SD card, then copied the Nintendo 3DS folder over.
Now do I need to do the Fix movable.sed KeyY step? or go straight to the database is damaged step? This system has not been formatted or a system transfer been preformed.

I'm worried about the save data, I'm trying to help a friend recover his Animal crossing data and want to make sure I am doing this right.

The thread you linked to discusses steps to perform if you have two ID0 folders. This appears to be a completely different issue caused by random corruption of your SD card.

Just to rule out the obvious: what if you move the folder 039800f... to somewhere else on your SD card (or just back it up, and then delete it), and then rename 669A00~! to 669a00f34707bad7534... ?

I'm worried about the save data, I'm trying to help a friend recover his Animal crossing data and want to make sure I am doing this right.

Is that somehow related to the problem you are observing..?

At any rate, if all else fails you can decrypt and extract things manually on a PC, as long as you don't do a System Format or System Transfer. Just make sure you have backups of everything!

It would be a good idea to make a second copy of the Nintendo 3DS folder placed on your computer or external hard drive. In case something goes wrong on the worked on Nintendo 3DS folder, that backup will act as peace of mind insurance.

After copying or moving the Nintendo 3DS folder to the replacement SD card, the 3DS system should keep the same <ID0> parent folder but might create a different <ID1> child folder derived from that SD card's CID (card identification).

Double check the two <ID1> child folders to determine which one is bigger or has your collection of games, dlcs, updates, saves, and extdata.

I believe these are which are which by the before and after.

• 1st child folder(?) <ID1> = 669a00f34707bad7534530340002544d
• 2nd child folder (?) <ID1> = 039800fc473068305344313600413432

When the original <ID1> is found, I recommend renaming it to that SD card's default <ID1> name. As long as both <ID1> and <ID1> share or come from the same <ID0> parent folder, you can rename the real child folder to that card's default <ID1>. See this thread as an example.

If Format System Memory (factory reset) was not performed and the sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1> directory has been corrected, your 3DS should recognize your library and repopulate the HOME Menu. If not, run the CTRTransfer (Type D9)'s Fix movable.sed KeyY function to determine if the KeyY ⇄ <ID0> encryption has been tempered and needs to be changed back.

Once the encryption has been found to be intact or reverted, check for signs of missing tickets and/or damaged database[#1][#2].

• (1) Missing tickets can be restored with fake tickets using just the faketik app.
• (2) Damaged database requires CTRTransfer (Type D9) - Rebuild 3DS Database: Option (B) Full, FBI, faketik, and Cthulhu.

Thank you guys for the reply's!, It worked! Renaming <id1> to the default name did the trick. I also want to say I love the in depth post explaining how the 3ds manages its file system. I learned quite a bit and was pretty fascinating.
