Hi all, I'm looking at buying a new laptop very soon (well as soon as the model I want comes off pre order and available for sale in my country)

I know what I want but am torn between 2 variations of the same model

Both are new generation 2020 ASUS ROG Zephyrus 14" models (I always buy 13" or 14" - it's always been the same)

The first one's core specs are

60Hz WQHD 2560x1440
Ryzen 9 4900HS
RTX 2060
16GB DDR4
1TB SSD

with the price being 1799.99

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/14-...hz-wqhd-ryzen-9-rtx-2060-16gb-ddr4-1tb-ssd-wi

and the second ones specs are

120Hz FHD 1920x1080
Ryzen 9 4900HS
RTX 2060 Max-Q
16GB DDR4
1TB SSD

This second one is 200 cheaper at 1599.99

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/14-...ryzen-9-rtx-2060-max-q-16gb-ddr4-1tb-ssd-win1

They both have all the same connections etc..

The 2 key differences and only differences I can tell are is that the first one has WQHD 2560x1440 but it's only 60HZ where as the second one is FHD 1920x1080 which is at 120HZ

The first one has the RTX 2060 and the second one is RTX 2060 Max-Q (I think the difference is that the Q uses less power)

I am leaning towards the second one and not just because it's cheaper and the reason being even though it's a lesser resolution it seems to be running at 60HZ where as the 1080p is running at 120HZ

Could someone please offer me their opinions on the trade off between the resolutions and the HZ and also the graphics cards if you're familiar with them

I thank you in advance :)

I enjoyed using the Zephyrus with the 2060 Max-Q but it all comes down to the work you are doing. In the end, there isn't much of a difference, so I would go for the 120Hz screen over the non-MaxQ. I hope you enjoy your laptop!

thank you, that's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for :)

i really wanted to know if it's better to have the 120HZ at 1080p than the higher resolution but with 60HZ

Appreciate it !

At 14 inches, I personally can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p, much less 1440 but 60Hz to 120 has a huge affect on me personally! Butter smooth frames will make anyone go uwu

120hz every day of the week, higher refresh rate is a much bigger benefit vs higher resolution in basically every way. You probably wouldn't even notice a difference between 1440p and 1080p on a 14" laptop anyways

Brilliant ! again - thank you to you both - this is the information and opinions I was looking for :)

Don't know if you already ordered the laptop, but at 14" there is literally no point going 4k. The doubled refresh rate will have way more of an impact and benefit when gaming even if its at 1080p.

Scan are very lazy about getting their descriptions accurate. I'm pretty sure both laptops have the same 2060 Max-Q graphics so the only consideration is the screen resolution and refresh rate.
