They can’t put the same price as the Xbox! Is a less powerful console

Maybe $399 is a good price and $299 for the only digital
It may be less powerful but it's still high-end hardware, the majority of it being basically the same generation of parts which will take about the same amount of money to manufacture. MS is definitely taking a hefty loss with just the Series X, I doubt Sony could afford to take even heavier losses right off the bat. Best case scenario PS5 ends up being $450 for physical and $400 for digital, but that's the lowest you should expect, I'll eat all the hats if either is under $400.

Honestly if microsoft had more jrpgs or games that I play on xbox i'd instantly go with a series x or s. X cloud is going to be amazing and the consoles are alot cheaper. Just sucks xbox doesnt usually have the games I want to play.

Don't think the PS5 is going to sell as well as PS4... it so white and not sleek looking
Controller is the worst looking. (cheap plastiky design)
I was hoping the Xbox SeX would be white too, not just the slim one.

Sony can totally charge $499 for the disc version, even with less tflops, they have Sony brand and exclusives, its worked so well for them that XBX dropped below the PS4 Pro despite being far more powerful. How close they can bring the discless version to a Series S is going to be the interesting question.

Nope Sony would love to be cheaper than Microsoft, likewise everyone wants the consoles to be cheap, but this is a VERY different thing to what they're actually able to do.

I doubt Sony will heavily discount (even thought they're breaking profit, they'll claim yet again that they aren't), they are already heavily outgunned and out done by Microsoft.

If Microsoft actually manage to get their studios making good games this time, they beaten Sony to everything, lea ing Sony with only their brand.

"Microsoft" and "good games" not named Halo, Gears, Ori, and Killer Instinct don't exactly go in the same sentence IMO so far. I mean, they had Scalebound until shit hit the fan and Xbox, like it used to be, became known as the multiplayer FPS console.

I mean, you have that one anime hack-n'‐slash that's about some dude defeating a bunch of monsters who smoked perhaps just a little too much weed. What was it called again? Scarlet uh...something?

I think a price of $450 for the physical console would be competitive, all things considered. If Sony wanted, they could offer a larger internal SSD on the digital model than the Xbox Series S, and get an early start on the Xbox Series W (my catch-all name for this and all future Xbox Series X console models - the W standing for "whatever.") by outplaying both models in price and features. It'd be risky, but it would give them an upper hand, so long as they can keep the supply up to meet the demand and not have another PS2 launch problem, albeit this time, the situation isn't as in Sony or Microsoft's control as a normal launch year would have.

Hmmmm.... I am not sure about that.
In the one hand, I would love SONY yo break their back to give such prices... I will get one immediately.
In the other hand, what good is getting the console day 1 if SONY goes bankrupt and there's no further support for the console.
I highly doubt Sony's going to go bankrupt that quickly, over the launch of one console - they did kinda screw up the PS3 launch, but they recovered later. Nintendo didn't do so hot with the 3DS and Wii U launches, and the handheld recovered, before the Switch sold like gangbusters.

Considering that the PS4 stomped all over the competition console-wise in this generation (considering it wasn't even like the draw that ended in Sony's favor like it did in the 7th generation of consoles), I have to ask why you think Sony might be close to biting the dust over the launch of a new console?

I know pretty much every other division they own not called TVs or game consoles isn't even close to competing with options from other companies like Samsung, Bose, LG, Apple, *insert brand in specific area of electronics here*, but I remember reading that they've been doing a lot of downsizing to accommodate.

Yeah, that was my point, personally I dislike Halo (like the first) and detest Gears, I find them terribly overrated.

My point was Microsoft own a lot of once capable studios, they appear to be very good at most things now "if" they can actually get the studios making good games, then they win accross the board.

In terms of the Playstation, it is technically weaker than the X, but a decent amount better than the S, but I can see the being forced to sell it at the same price as the X (with the disc less model slightly cheaper). I'm sure Sony will constantly talk about their "proprietary" SSD tech, as that is the only real difference (actually OS is the only difference), but nothing will be noticeable within games.

Also affordable? Doubtful.

Completely subjective. I'm on SSI disability income and even at $500 it would be affordable to me even though I only get $783 a month, and out of that has to come rent, phone, utilities, internet, cat food, cat litter, toiletries, car insurance, gas, etc. etc. How? Because I'm excellent at budgeting and have a pretty good savings.

If it's not affordable to someone it's most likely because they're either under 18, don't have a job, need to work more hours, or are terrible with their money.

I think they'll either make a big song and dance, Sony style, about the faster access speeds and see if they can get away with $449 & $549, or go for the probably more sensible $399 & $499 option. Digital version will lose enough money as it is - Sony really wouldn't be paying more than $25-$30 max for the BD kit, yet I don't see anyone opting for the digi version if it's only $50 cheaper, and Sony will know this themselves. Really cannot see it being any cheaper than that.

Microsoft has confirmed their XB Series S to be priced at 299$/299 euros. But it's somewhat under-powered compared to XB Series X.
Sony can't compete with that price!

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
