I was an avid user of the Sony PSP back in the day (mid-2000's), but ended up following Nintendo's releases with the 3DS and the Switch, leaving PS Vita behind.

Now, I have found a good deal for a PS Vita and was wondering if that's worth buying, considering the easy hacking process and exclusive titles. :)

Any insights on this would be much appreciated. Many thanks. :D

EDIT: Just bought my PS Vita today! It's a PCH-1003. I've already installed CFW 3.60 HENkaku/enso + Adrenaline. And I'm lovin' it! :D

Now I just need no buy a new memory card with a large capacity, as the one that came with the console is the 4GB version from Sony.

Thanks a lot to everyone that shared their thoughts in this post. It helped me to made my decision.

No regrets so far!

Honestly only you can answer that. There is no way to play the exclusives anywhere else, although a lot of previous exclusives have been ported elsewhere since they came out. Just look up what games you want to play on it first, if the price you'll be paying is worth it for those then go for it. Hacked with Adrenaline it also double as a good hacked PSP too.

I see! There are a few games I really wanted to play, but as you said most of the exclusives have been ported to other systems. I'll have to consider all my options. And since I can play all the PSP isos using the PSPemu application, I think I may give it a try. I can always resell it in case I don't enjoy it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I've got everything I had on PSP on me Vita.
With the additional benefit of every game being in glorious OLED.

I'd say yes, get one, you won't regret it.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. That sounds great! :D

IMO it's worth it for frobisher says.

That sounds interesting. May try it if I close the deal, thanks! :D

Vita is pretty awesome for Japanese games, though it's not the must have it used to be now that Persona 4 Golden is on PC. Muramasa Rebirth though is glorious on a good OLED Vita-1000.

That's my kind of thing! And I want to play Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z on the go. I've played it in Xbox 360 and it's a great game! :D

OLED (at least every one I've seen) has PWM (pulse width modulation) and causes insane eye strain. If the Vita doesn't have it, it would be the first OLED I've seen that doesn't. So, to me, OLED is a HUGE NEGATIVE.

edit: I actually owned a non-OLED Vita before and it seemed like that one caused eye strain too, so even the regular version might also have PWM. I don't have that problem on the New 2ds XL.

No; the only worthwhile game on it, Persona 4 Golden, was ported to Steam a couple of months ago.

Hell, before that happened, I was debating on whether I should spend hundreds of AUD on a Vita or PS TV thing, just for that singular game.

I own a vita what you get are vita games with the complete PSP/PS1 libary and if you access Adrienne you will get all the compatible emulators from the PSP with the exception of the SNES emulator for some reason that doesnt work but then again retroarch can do the job also.

The vita is a good 8/10

After dealing with touch-sensitivity bullshit with various touch-based rhythm games, on the 2000 "slim" model, and reading about how the OLED 1000 version has very sensitive touch, I would absolutely recommend AGAINST the 2000 non-OLED "slim" model. It pisses me off that touch-based rhythm games are missing touches that would have been picked up on the more sensitive OLED 1000 version. Sony is a piece of crap, and I'm glad I never supported the Vita at all, only buying one in "open-box" condition, in order to wait for hacks.

I had a Vita before and don't like Persona, so that left me 0 games. The thing is basically an emulator box only + potential PSP/PS1 support, but the 3ds can play most PS1 games now anyway. I also disliked the dpad on the Vita compared to 3ds.

Tried Risk of Rain on Vita and played way worse with Vita controls than something like a PS1 controller connected to PC/Laptop. I don't play QUITE as good with the New 2ds XL as I do with a normal controller, but the difference is far less than the Vita.

As the one the biggest Vita fans here. Not really. The majority of exclusive games have been ported to more accessible systems. Unless you really want to play Muramasa and Uncharted Golden Abyess.

Even for emulation I think it's pretty mech as there's more accessible options out there.

I still love my Japanese 2K Vita.

if you're an rpg fan, there's tales of hearts r and ys memories of celceta. ys is on the ps4, but I believe it's unplayable on an exploitable system. it was released too recently.

Of course it's worth it!
The homebrew community is very active and dedicated. You can use it as an emulation machine, a streaming device etc...
Plus, you basically have 2 consoles in one as it has a PSP inside it. The build quality and battery is great, and there's a lot of great games on there ;)

The combination of DS + 3ds + GBA (all natively) + PS1 with low enough input lag that's it's almost as good as native on the 3ds makes the Vita look like an absolute clown show. 3ds vs Vita library is like comparing Steve Buscemi to GOD.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
