Hi all

I'm really hoping someone can help me, I was originally using Teconmoon's injector to play Wii and Gamecube games on my Wii U but i found a large number of Wii games just didn't work. I looked online and apparently the injector just isn't very good (according to the guy who made it) so I've attempted to softmod the vWii and use a USB loader. I've been at it all day and i've hit a wall

I followed the definitive vWii Hacking guide from this site

I got as far installing USB Loader GX and now i'm stuck, i've also tried WiiFlow and CFusb loader and I have the same issue.

I was originally using a 1TB external hard drive, formatted to FAT32 but everytime I attempted to load a USB loader it would crash the Wii U. I tried a 8GB flash drive and managed to load the USB Loader so I thought i'd try partitioning my HDD, I made 2 500Gb FAT32 drives and that worked but now I couldn't see any games. I loaded one of the games onto the 8GB FAT32 drive and the game was on there but if i pressed play the Wii U would crash again.

I decided to scrap the HDD which I brought today, i took it back to the store and got a larger USB drive as that seemed to have worked. I set up all the games and they do show on the USB loader but again they crash as soon as I try to open them. Also have a weird issue with USB Loader GX, if i press any menu buttons other than the system menu or a game it freezes. I also couldn't update my game cover art without it crashing either

Please can someone help me, I followed that guide to the letter, but im not an expert on IOS which is probably the issue, i've been googling for hours trying to understand but I just dont get it. Please help

your syschwck looks good. try a different version of usb loader gx or try wiiflow or cfg usb loader.

Hey thank you for replying!

I've tried both wiiflow and cfg, both had pretty much the same issue, they could find the games but crashed on start up. So is there like a more stable version of USB GX loader somewhere maybe?

I'm not sure. I've had a couple of issues with usb loader in the past like it corrupting my neek2o nand or dkc returns crashing, but I've always managed to fix it. one thing someone said is that you shouldn't leave the vwii hdd plugged in as the wii u could destroy it due to power issues. my hdd has a toggle switch that I turn off when I'm not using the vwii. I count myself lucky. a lot of people have problems with usb loader gx, but the problems I've had have been minor and fixable.

I think I've had a breakthrough, my Toshiba Canvas basics HDD and my 128gb SanDisk blade don't work. An old 16gb flash drive which I don't know the name of works perfectly so I guess its that!

Need to find a compatible HDD now

I can tell you wd elements is compatible. either 2.5" or 3.5" -- it doesn't matter. I have a 2.5" one in the original enclosure. I think I have wd blue in an enclosure for 3.5". wd is a good brand to try out.

Hello,

To properly operate external hard drives with the Wii U, it is recommended to use a Y-cable or an AC power supply. And you will be fine.:yayu:

Avoid == >> USB keys, they often give black screens or do not start.

So I've fixed kind of!

Thank you all for the help.

I brought a 1TB WD elements HDD that works but it has an odd quirk, if I plug the HDD in and start USB Loader Gx it freezes on initializing USB. If I start USB loader without it plugged in, wait until I get the 20 second timer to plug a HDD and then insert it, it works perfect but I'm done tinkering now, I'll just live with it!

Again thank you all!

Are you using a Y cable for your HDD? Usb sticks tend to be more problematic. Also a few hdd.don't work well. I recommend seagate, I've bought 2 drives from that brand and they work just fine.
