I was thinking about it and other than Cyberpunk 2077 which is a surefire hit what are the other big games coming this holiday season? There's no Halo Infinite anymore, I don't know what Nintendo's big game this holiday is, Spider-Man for PS5 I would put as another big title. But besides those two maybe I am missing something but I don't see any other big hits. You might could say Assassins Creed Valhalla. To be fair this is both a transition year to next-gen consoles and there is that little virus still happening. I just don't remember many years where I was looking forward to so few games come holiday season.

One thing I can't figure out is Watch Dogs Legion a 2020 game or not? I keep seeing October 29th but other places say delayed until 2021.

In terms of volume of games I want to play then yeah it is not going to be anything like the PS360 eras and earlier. I quite often go back through gaming in [year] lists (albeit looking more at the traditional gaming periods -- September to late March being the main period rather than calendar year) to see what was happening and the current state of things is quite disheartening.

If Cyberpunk 2077 was not a thing I doubt I would remember anything about this year in gaming in 10 years.

I am pretty sure I've already played my game of the year Ghost of Tsushima played it nearly 50 hours and it is fantastic in ever way imaginable.

Lmfao not even. Ghost of Tsushima is a terrible game for multiple reasons. It is repetitive. It is generic. Nothing about it is original except the wind being a guide. A mini map is superior in every way, shape, and form. The graphics are terrible for a first party exclusive that launched at the end of a consoles life cycle. Nothing new though, Days Gone was terrible. Death Stranding was terrible. LOU2 was terrible. Game will not be worth its retail price until after coop is added, and even then it will be lacking.

Why do I have a feeling you've never played Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, or LOU2? Sorry bud, I think you're completely full of it. Death Stranding isn't my type of game so I haven't played it, but the other three are far, far, FAR from "terrible". Might want to jump off whatever train you're riding on.

I am hoping Nintendo will surprise drop a big holiday title on us. We don't know much about BotW 2 yet but it is possible it could be near to completion, considering how long it took them to make Majoras Mask using the existing engine, it was only like 8 months IIRC.
Something really meaty like BotW 2 would hold me over for months.
Otherwise, it's going to be a pretty weak holiday season for games for sure.

I wish you were right but I do not believe they will drop a surprise on us and release BOTW 2 this year. I think we will know well in advance when that game is coming out as Nintendo is known to do with their big releases. Maybe next year but 2022 wouldn't surprise me either.

Paper Mario Origami King was surprise dropped on us, so you never know. They have been pretty silent this year, but I'm sure they have something big in the works that would have been announced at E3 if shit hadn't gone down. There's hardly ever been a holiday season without some big game from Nintendo, sometimes multiple. And with the current situation, people need a big meaty new game now more than ever.

Name a time when they surprised dropped their biggest holiday hit? Never. It's not coming this year. The only big game that is supposed to come out is Lego Mario and I can't even find a for sure release date for it.

We've never had a situation quite like this before, though. All bets are off as to how exactly they will deal with it going forward but I think it's safe to say had the situation been different Origami King would probably not have been surprise dropped the way it was. If they can surprise drop a big game like that, anything's possible.
Not saying it has to be BotW 2, that's just the first thing that comes to mind that could potentially be ready for release by Christmas. But it might be some as of yet unannounced game, who knows.
Unless the reality is that their schedule has been so delayed by Corona that they don't actually have a game ready this time around, then we might see said game releasing a few months late, around March I'd guess.

Well you're arguing with me about something you have no reason to believe will happen. You have nothing but hope to make you think this will happen. Good luck with your hope quest but it ain't coming this year. Not going to keep going back and forth with someone who has no proof of anything just an idea in their head. You will be wrong and I'm moving on.

Something's gotta be coming though. It might be a first for Nintendo if they skipped their most lucrative season for games. It's more than hope, call it an educated guess. Then again Nintendo never seems to do what people expect so who knows.

Rogue legacy 2
Factorio (though admitted it's been 100% playable and available for years)
C&C remaster
Roll for the galaxy
Cook, serve delicious 3
Spelunky 2

Yeah, I get it : you won't touch games that aren't created by at least half a village in developers. That's fine by me. Just know : I don't share your idea of this year's release schedule. :P
