The first PlayStation 5 advertisement goes live early, gets taken down [Update] Officially released

The first PlayStation 5 commercial has aired, though not intentionally. The official Hungarian PlayStation YouTube account let this upcoming advert go live earlier than expected, giving us a look at how the company plans to market their upcoming console. Potentially planned to be broadcast as part of a soccer league finals match later this week, the commercial was removed, though quickly backed up and re-uploaded multiple times. The advertisement is fairly short, only lasting 30 seconds, and focuses mostly on how the DualSense controller feels, and how you'll be able to "see with sound" thanks to the new technology. It then ends on Sony's new slogan for the PS5: "Play Has No Limits". Unfortunately, nothing new such as the console's price was revealed by the ad, though it does remind us that the next generation will soon be upon us.

Update:

PlayStation have released the teaser on their official YouTube channel, the video above has been updated to reflect this. The official video still provides no new information.

The higher we go in technology the more expensive devices become. 2007 a premium phone costs $500 I'm talking about the Iphone and we kinda had premium prices when the PS3 launched at $599 for the BC 60GB model PS3 and $499 for the 20gb BC model PS3. So those prices always been there. Phones nowadays costs $1000 at minimum people don't complain too much because they finance the phones. If people could finance consoles we would have maybe triple the world wide sales we have today.

$500 is a good price. $600 is a better price if they offer premium content

@FanofFans
Unfortunately for the switch 3rd party support is limited. The hardware isn't compatible which is why most DEV kinda dropped the switch. If we do get a 3rd party port it is downscalled. It cost DEVS additional $$$ to make a game work on inferior hardware that is why most of them just drop the switch from the equation. It isn't being negative it is the truth. The switch is only good for Nintendo it hardly support 3rd party titles unless you consider 5+ year old games from 3rd party ported over to the switch new. (Borderlands/Bioshock)

Your prediction is 100% assumption with no actual basis or fact behind it. If I were to venture my own opinion, I'd argue that the Switch will continue to get support from 3rd-party devs, and good indie titles, as well as phenomenal first-party titles. I don't see this being an issue at all, nor do I see the switch "suffering the same fate". You're FAR too pessimistic in your assumption here, and it's filled with obnoxious negativity.
dude lets be fucking real here EA, Activision, and Ubisoft is not going to give 2 flying fucks about the switch when the ps5 and xsx releases. also, actual basis or fact behind it? just look at all the shovelware the DS had....
Then look at the 360 and its clean phenomenal library.
there's a reason the DS got all the shit while the 360 got most of the effort
I actually think you're being way too optimistic here, and this is coming from a person who's extremely optimistic

the whole point of technological advances is that youre able to get powerful hardware for cheaper prices since technology evolves fast
its been 15 years since the xbox 360 launched, and in that timespan something as powerful as the XSX should cost the same as the 360 did. it ends up being the opposite where shit ends up getitng more expensive
also ps3 is a bad example- that console is INFAMOUS for being overpriced, they had to make new ps3 models to have a price drop and to compete with the 360.
Also no phones dont cost 1000 dollars at minimum, maybe newer ones yes, but generally most normal older phones will be extremely affordable. a galaxy s9 costs 300 dollars for christ sake
the whole fucking point of consoles is being a cheap entrypoint to gaming. the cheap part has been removed ever since 2016.

Switch is going to fall to the same fate to the DS where the next gen games were so powerful and hard to run they just make whole new games for the switch. The thing is that they arent going to bother with these so theyll just end up looking really cheap and not very good.
But the DS & 3DS did have a pretty decent first party lineup so i'm confident the same will be for the switch. Also the fact that the DS and 3ds got a new revision 4 years after release- this is the switch's third year so there will probably a new nintendo switch to at least compete with the newer hardware of the xsx and ps5 next year

A lot of Switch games will end being ports.

Even Nintendo is doing ports.

And when is not a port is a sequel.

Anyway I bought the Switch for Super Mario Odyssey and the Smash Bros game. It being able to play Sonic Mania Plus was a nice bonus.

I still think 400-500 is a ridiculous price for next gen consoles
if the 360 was priced at 300 and managed to be microsoft's best selling console, i dont see why sony can't do the same with the ps5- the price of games alone is already turning lots of people away from console gaming and for some people even next gen gaming entirely.
Hell, the ps2 managed to be the best selling console of all time because of its competitive price- you get a dvd player and an amazing library of cool games for just 299- most of them were cheap too. they were 40 bucks or 30 bucks but never too expensive
and now we have the ps5, pay 499 to get the console, 60 dollars per year for the online subscription just to have a library full of mostly cinematic games, 70 dollars a pop
Same for the XSX but instead of cinematic games, its crappy halos.
idk why they are just having the consoles be so god damn expensive when consoles back in the day were sold at reasonable- actually not just reasonable, good prices. 400 dollars and above for a console IMO is pushing it, because at that point you should get a PC.
but with how expensive gaming is going to be for the next 7 years you might as well get a pc regardless of price

While this may be true, the PS4 was a huge success and came in at $400. I just can't see Sony going below that price point. It was doable up until PS2 when consoles weren't literal computers and were sort of appliances. But nowadays they use off the shelf parts for the most part, some parts just slightly customized. Nowadays almost none of the components are even made by the console manufacturer. Only the motherboard and the shell are made by the console manufacturer (and in China, not even in Japan anymore).

if they use off the shelf parts nowadays how are they so expensive
Customized hardware is expensive for a reason, its made by the company
but consoles since the 360 and dreamcast have been using general PC parts from the shelves
that should make shit cheaper since they dont have to make the hardware and spend lots of money on it

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

its not just the consoles either, paid online services, game prices rising, consoles needing external hardware accessories since the hardware inside is very imperfect, (ps5 ssd only has 825 gb of storage. THAT IS NOT USABLE IN 2020!!!!) consoles having crappy launch days and defective hardware, microtransactions and day one DLC, all of these make consoles way more expensive than they should. none of this shit existed back in say, 2000 with the ps2 and gamecube. if we get more expensive hardware we should get less problems, not the other way around.

Theyll announce it 3 days before release :D
even with the fucking overpriced PS3 they released the price and what the console does a clean 6 months before release- because back then, sony actually had fucking balls.
we have 3-4 months before the actual ps5 releases and we have no preorder, no release date, and no fucking price.
But hey at least we know that the console has a digital edition, fucking yay.

They're waiting for the XSEX to announce their price so Sony can pull this Pro Gamer move:

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

there's no point of holding the price at this point. ms basically already lost the next generation with halo gameplay footage. the one game they were banking on. the ad made it seem like out of this world, but the gameplay was just another generic halo game but with underwhelming graphics for the generation. the only reason why 360 won against the ps3 was because that was an idiotic price, no one was/is willing to buy their kids a $600 console when something with the same big games is available for half the price. as long as the price is $400 for the base model, it's a huge win for Sony.

But then the Microsoft could be all like, "XSEX for $300! THIS! IS! MICROSOOOFT!"

Why do people abbrievate the Series X as XSEX? Adding that e, the second letter of series is so stupidly arbitrary, and clearly done just to get that word sex in there. It should really just be the XSX, and when you say each letter out loud, it reads as the Excess X. Which honestly feels really fitting. lol, I think I might legit just start calling it the Excess X.

To be quite honest, for $70 the games should come on flash media. I understand why Sony went towards optical media in 90/s and 2000's but good quality blu-ray's aren't cheap. flash storage has gotten way cheaper on an exponential scale. and installation deters many casual gamers from playing games. Sony could easily afford to distribute games on flash media on cartridges, since a 128GB SATA SSD costs around $15 to a consumer. That would mean retailers get it for around $8-10. Cost of production without packaging and stuff is around $3. If Sony does in-house manufacturing of flash cartridges, it would be an industry-leading decision that could pay off big-time in the future.

not gonna lie the past 2 generations of consoles have basically failed to generate any excitement from me. The Xbox one's launch was gimped due to the kinect and disk DRM, and the PS4's controller was super gimmicky even in 2013. This generation doesn't seem to be all too exciting either besides the super strange designs this time around

The first PlayStation 5 commercial has aired... it does remind us that the next generation will soon be upon us.
While this looks like it may sell more than the Playstation 2, which is still historically the best-selling console in the United States, I'm led to believe that the next generation is already here. In fact, it was pioneered by Nintendo, with the Nintendo Switch, which relies less on the physical medium and focuses more on digital downloads.

That's a major part of the yet-to-be-defined Ninth Generation of video games - the focus on digital downloads. In fact, this Playstation, for the first time ever since the series' initial release in 1994, will have a "Digital-Only" version. Xbox already has several games only found digitally, and no doubt the Series X will not provide physical discs or carts as much as digital downloads. While digital downloads have existed since as early as the Sixth Gen, this new generation will focus on them most of all, while offering new features that will become the new standard.

That's what I believe. We shall see what features become common-place among the different consoles in this new gen.

you do know that mass procucing bluray discs makes them like 1-3 $ at best right? it would be a huge chunk if devs had to pay 10$ for the media alone lol, heck developers refuse to use nintendo switch 32gb cartridges becuase they cost around 10$ or something like that, imagine if all ps5 games had a 10$ physical media price lol, no one would make physical copys anymore...

As if they still are, lol
Its gotten to the point where having physical games is a luxury rather than a necessity
Sure, most AAA titles still have physical options, but indies have already gone full digital. this makes sense though given the fact that theyre indies and they probably dont have enough money to mass produce physicals
but then you have games like fallout 76 where the disc granted with the physical release just contains a digital code on it. granted fallout 76 is complete hogwash and it's amazing how one would even buy the game in the first place, but still this is a sign of things to come

The rumors saying that both consoles gonna cost 500$ each. With means 800$ in my country, with means I'm only gonna buy it in 2022 when the price gonna drop like it happened with the ps4 and Xbox one.

seems like they're expecting for people to buy a console for the controller. Hmm maybe I'm old fashion because I don't have Haptic feedback controllers for my Switch, but I kinda like looking at what my character is doing on screen, not what my hands are doing in my lap. Good luck Sony; I'll buy a console when an exploit is found..just to be honest.
