The Nintendo Switch is officially launching in Brazil

switch brazil.jpg

Back in 2015, Nintendo stopped all of its direct sales in Brazil, reportedly due to huge taxes it had to pay in order to continue its operations. Nintendo fans had to resort to imports and resellers so as purchase Nintendo consoles like the Switch. Recently, the country lowered its import tax on electronic games hardware and could be the reason to attract Nintendo back to resume its sales in the country. The console maker announced today that the Nintendo Switch will officially launch in the country. No time frame was given other than it will be "coming soon".

Cool. Now instead of it being 2400BRL, it'll be 3000BRL.
Given that the price for new units have been around 3000BRL to 4000BRL since March, 2400BRL would be pretty nice.
I bought mine last year for about 1800BRL, and it was already more expensive than a PS4 and a Xbox One, now it is basically massive scalping with physical games going over 300 easily, some being around 500 while the console units have wildly variable prices depending on where you look. If Nintendo gets here, the prices will drop, and I imagine grey market sellers will keep it a few bucks under the official price to get more sales.

Brazil always loved Nintendo, since the NES era it was a huge sucess. Maybe future games are going to be translated to Portuguese? (I hope so). Overall i think they have a lot of potential of growing here, I really hope they sell it for around 1500-2000BRL, it would be a much more acessible price.

Nobody here knows Brazilian gamers, it is all memes bordering on prejudice. They say as if people actually buy the newer Master System clones like it is some holy grail.

Anyway, I doubt the games will be translated, Nintendo of Europe used to translate Wii U and 3DS games to Portuguese in Portugal, but they have stopped doing it when the Switch came out. IMO people should learn English anyway as translations are still somewhat uncommon, except for first-party Microsoft and Sony games, it is still a hit-or-miss.

I agree with you, all this bullshit about "bRaZiL OnLy hAs SeGa" isn't funny anymore. I wouldn't expect less from a website which most of the active users are from US/Europe...
But considering recent games have been getting a Latin American Spanish translation, i think there's still little hope for Poruguese localization. I would really like to see a full eShop inside of the Switch too.

Cool. Now instead of it being 2400BRL, it'll be 3000BRL.

2400 BRL? Please point me to this store so I can scrape them and resell for a profit. New Mariko units aren't going for less than 4000 BRL (that's around 720 USD if anyone is wondering), prices skyrocket after COVID 19.

R$1500 is a straight up conversion from the USD prince, not gonna happen in a million years even if they assembly it here.

Anyways, I really doubt Nintendo will assembly the console here, it would be suicide (also, there's zero talks about Nintendo going into Zona Franca, we usually get hints a company is coming months if not years before they start assembling in the country), so here's my price prediction assuming they're importing like they've always done before exiting the country (I'm not predicting it from my arse, I actually worked in a importing company for a couple years):

The taxation will go more or less like this: ICMS+Importing Tax+IPI+PIS/COFINS+ some other smller taxes. For consoles all these taxes usually reach something from 100 to 150% over the console AND shipping cost. After that you add the importer and the seller profits over the final product: importers usually profits around 20% and the seller I'm not sure how it is nowdays, but it used to be from to 10 to 30%. There's also logistic costs, but I don't know too much about those, so I won't include them. I also won't include taxes over shipping costs because I don't really know how much bulk shipping is going nowdays.

So, the Mariko Switch selling price is 300 USD (since this is the price straight from nintendo, I assume their profit is already in this 300 bux and won't be adding their profits again), let's use a middle ground for taxes of 125%, a 20% of importer's profit and a middle ground for seller's profit of 15%:

300+300*1,25 = 675
675+300*0,20 = 735
735+300*0,15 = 780

So, for a Mariko Switch, without the logistic costs an the taxation over shipping, the price would be around 780 bux, that's an unrealistic best case scenario. It won't be that, imo the price will be closer to 1000 USD. Same for the Switch Lite: minimum unrealistic cost would be 520 USD, imo the price will be closer to 700-750 USD.

A Mariko unity from the grey market is going for around 720 USD, so the official version will most likely be more expensive. It's like I always say: Sony had a reason to release the PS4 here for a thousand bucks, and they did that reducing their margin to probably nothing.

Unfortunately for Brazilians good news are usually not good news at all.

I still can't believe this is really happening, it would be a dream to finally be able to play games like Zelda Breath of the Wild or Pokémon Sword in my language (even more so because my English isn't so good.)

I hope they can launch at a price compatible with our market, currently people here sell the Nintendo Switch for at least R$ 4,000 ($ 719.72 at the current dollar price) this is extremely unfeasible considering that most Brazilians do not receive more than R $ 1,039 per month (and this money has yet to be used to pay rent, electricity, water, internet and etc...) I hope that with Nintendo finally here in Brazil the situation will improve a little.

Another thing I would like to see is official assistance here.

Two years ago I posted about my Bricked Switch here and many said it was for me to send to Nintendo, but as I live in Brazil this was not something I could do at the time and I ended up selling it, I couldn't fix it.

-----

I just want games translated to PT-BR, cuz i already know this new brazilian consoles are going to be super expensive.
But as we already know Nintendo, this is probably never going to happen, so the only thing that's going to change is the warranty policy for us (and maybe an eShop with actual games on it).

When they were last here, games that should've been sold for 80 at most were being sold for 150.
So, now that 60 usd is equivalent to 300 we will be getting games for 500.

I would only buy if it had at most the same price as the X1 but as I know it will come with an obscene price tag, this new means nothing to me.
