I would take a DS over a 3ds. 3ds does not give me much over what the DS has and costs me GBA, not to mention I have a vita (which I will assume is also good for PSP in this scenario, even if practical realities are maybe not quite there).
3ds has no games either, or at least nothing if you also have the GBA and DS libraries to play with.

I am rather confused by your statement about the 3ds having no games worth playing compared to the DS/GBA.

The Mario and Luigi games
Mario Maker.

And so many more games that are rather good on the 3DS. Plus Twighlight menu for ds games and open_gba firm for all your gba games and better emulation of other systems. I really don't see why you would take the DS over a 3DS.

Form factor is nicer.
Most of those have equivalents on the GBA and DS. Or at least if you came up through the GBA and DS you would not gain much of anything. 3ds also lost all the devs that made the GBA and DS special.
Emulation wise... slightly better SNES and some better res on the home consoles that exceeded the DS? Also I figure in that list I would have PSP/Vita which does better still.
