Microsoft and 343 Industries are delaying their highly-anticipated next-gen title Halo Infinite. The news come from an announcement from Chris Lee, studio head for Halo Infinite, who mentions multiple factors as the reason behind the delay, including COVID-19.

“We have made the difficult decision to shift our release to 2021 to ensure the team has adequate time to deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision,” reads the announcement. “The decision to shift our release is the result of multiple factors that have contributed to development challenges, including the ongoing COVID-related impacts affecting us all this year. I want to acknowledge the hard work from our team at 343 Industries, who have remained committed to making a great game and finding solutions to development challenges. However, it is not sustainable for the well-being of our team or the overall success of the game to ship it this holiday.”

I was just thinking this before this delay, what are the big games coming out for Christmas this year besides Cyberpunk 2077? (watch it get delayed again too) AFAIK NIntendo has nothing big, Sony or Microsoft now.

I also will not be surprised if both console launches are delayed to early next year. There's just no big reason to buy them and people are struggling anyway.

Well I was wrong they confirmed Xbox Series X comes out November. I guess they will have to use Cyberpunk 2077 to try to sell the system, a game that is also on PS4/Xbox One. I don't know of any big exclusives coming out at launch for XBSX, at least PS5 has Spider-man.

It's not really 3 months you need about 3-4 weeks for the game to go "gold" and print discs. Since games take years to make and now we're talking next gen a couple of months just isn't very long unless they were close. On top of that it's probably more difficult with Covid as mentioned.

On one hand we have ppl saying "with all this power 60fps should be the norm", or "gameplay above graphics"...
On the other hand "game doesn't look that good", "is this next gen"...
Ultimately cinematic presentations and shiny screenshots will win and 30fps will have to be the target for graphically intensive titles once more.

Welp! There goes my only reason to buy an Xbox Series whatever-the-hell on launch. But I do completely understand. And it's necessary for at least one person to quote Shigeru Miyamoto whenever anything ever is delayed: "A delayed game is good eventually, but a rushed game is bad forever." Especially after the complete fucking waste of resources Halo 5 was, and the slight disappointment that Halo 4 was, I'm definitely willing to wait a bit to experience it.
