I've had this happen before when I right-clicked on a file, selected properties, went to the advance window and checked the encrypt contents to secure data box. After ignoring it for a while it just went away.

If I were you I would open command prompt and run sfc /scannow

So as to check for any file curuption.

Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

Ok so we did have corrupted files. And windows repaired the ones it could. Hopefully it fixed the one causing the message to pop up. If not we will need to do one of several things (including CPGs suggestion above) until we find out what is causing the issue.

I would do the following:
  1. Download the latest version of Malwarebytes and run a scan.
  2. Run the following to fix sfc errors: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

In order to fix the unfixable files I think if you do a refresh from the Windows 10 advanced startup (essentially like reinstalling your OS without losing any data or programs) it should also restore files back to their original state. Alternatively a reset but that is more like a full reinstall although it does not delete files unless you tell it to, you'll have to reinstall any programs you had.

I guess you have BitLocker encryption enabled?
Basically it wants you to upload the recovery key to your OneDrive account. Once done, that message should never appear again. And it is almost a requirement to have a backup of it, in case your computer dies or something, so you can access the files from another PC.

The above should also work.

What is that? I don't remember seeing anything like this on my pc. Never heard of a bitlocker. But I mean, as long as this random notification isn't some virus or one of those pop ups from those websites chrome enable notifications for, then I don't really have anything to be worried about? :ninja:

lets check if you have it enabled

Open the Search bar and type Manage BitLocker. Select the Manage BitLocker from the menu.
This will open the BitLocker window, where you you will see all your partitions and you can either select to suspend BitLocker or completely disable it if it is enabled.

Ok so bitlocker is turned off which is bad because that means its not the cause of your issue. Give me a few hours please so as we can try and get this fixed for you. I'm currently in the middle of getting various tests done on me in hospital in the hope the find out why my lungs are fucked. Once done I will be able to help you out more.
