The problem is not so much the amount but the costs of luxery items. They are sought after to display status. Men are guilty of it as well. A man displays wealth to attract women. A woman displays wealth to make other women jealous of her husband´s wealth (which in turn compliments her present or former beauty).
I find these things sickening, but to each his/her own.

Unless in some of the wife minds is: my money is my money and your (the husband) money is our money. Basically the wife utilize all of her money for shopping and while sticking the husband to pay the bills and still is responsible to pick up the tab, thus leaving barely anything for whatever the husband want to spend on for himself.
Especially if she racks up credit card charges for herself and expects her husband to pay all of the dept, because she doesn't use iota of her own money to pay the dept.
That is of course if both the wife and husband earns the money.
