@Lacius

I've tried the BannerBomb3 but got a failure in the DSiWare step, so I tried the PicHaxx.
I'll look for the guide you suggested, thanks.

I had success with the SeedMiner + PicHaxx + FrogTool guide, the save file for the PicHaxx was the problem.
I had to use the Jenkins PicHaxInjector, all other injector are or offline or not working for me.

What's the best method of 1) creating a backup of your 3DS SD card, and 2) switching to a new SD card for your 3DS? I'm on the newest B9S+Luma, but all the methods I can find about SD card switching are talking about outdated hack methods.

What software will do the best for moving 3DS content to a new SD card? I'm on the newest B9S+Luma and am planning to move to a new SD card. I see many different posts about it but they all seem to be pretty old and talking about outdated methods.
You dont need any special software. You just directly copy from the old sd card to the new one.

Thanks. I think maybe I got my wires crossed because I did shift my stuff to an SD card once back during the emunand days, and I think there you had to use a partition manager to correctly copy the partition, and so I wasn't completely sure.

Yep emunand needed special software to be copied but without it you are fine just to transfer everything across.

Clear as crystal, thanks.

Something else I wondered, I have a simple rom hack I want to do to a given game, but I don't know what tools are out there for this. Essentially, I want to hack the 3DS Shinobi game to allow you to skip the intro and tutorial when starting a new game. I have heard that rom hacking tools are specific to a given game however. Are there more generic tools available? I don't think this should be a hard modification overall but of course I also assume tools already exist for this.

This question I have no clue about so I will leave it to one of the other experts here. Perhaps @TurdPooCharger will know?

I don't know advance rom hacking, modding, plugins, and editors for retail 3DS games. Only simple stuff like how to apply a IPS patch, edit simple hex values, and change out a HOME Menu banner. @chrisd, seek advice from true experts in this subject area like Asia81 or PabloMK7.

Hey board, thought I'd ask here instead of making a thread, (long time lurker, new board member).

Been hacking friends 3ds's for a few years now, and love my R4i Gold+ card with rts (The one found on the site recommended by the board, not allowed to hyperlink to it for my first post).

Today I go about trying to ntrboot my friends 3ds XL (not new3dsxl), and was getting a black screen error. Weird. So I go about reformatting my flashcarts SD card to see if that was the issue, get the kernel found in the above link, and I still cant get it to boot, AND now my hacked 3ds's (new 3ds XL and a friends o3DS) both come up with a blank white screen, not booting into the flashcard menu at all to even play my DS games from it, (meaning to install the DS games directly onto the 3ds, but the cart's been fine holding everything so haven't bothered to).

What am I doing wrong? I'm so confused why this isn't working and banging my head against a wall trying to figure this out TT^TT

https://www.r4dscard.com/R4-3DS-Compatible-N3DS-Flash-Cards.htm#:~:text=R4 Nintendo 3DS flashcards are small adapters the,NDS, DS Lite and DSi and N3DS consoles.
This will have most info you'll want on all the good cards. Although, if you want opinions on which card you would want to get, someone might help you out! :)

Simply, any card that says it's 3DS compatible should do as it says.

Assuming you want to run 3DS games, too. You might just want to download some CFW. You wouldn't even NEED a flashcart!

https://3ds.hacks.guide/ > this has everything you need to know. From how to do it, to what exactly you ARE doing to your 3DS. Once you get that all set up, you can get software such as TWiLight Menu++ to run NDS games for example.

Flashcarts on the 3DS are only able to run NDS games currently. If you are wanting a 3DS to only play NDS games, you might as well buy a DS(i) instead.

Another benefit of using Luma(CFW) is that it's free. 100% free. Only thing that will cost you money is the 3DS itself. Follow the guide in the link above, and you will be all set to go. Many people will be able to help you out here, too. (Incase you get confused)

Pro tip: Don't do anything on your own, if you aren't confident you can do it right. ASK FOR HELP!!! (I cannot stress this enough)

Your SD-card simply needs to be in FAT32 compatible, if you want to use TWiLight Menu++ without any issues. FAT32 is the standard one though.

For the SD-card size, I would recommend 32GB since that will give you space for majority of things you could want. If not all.

Minimum size for CFW is 2GB. Although, you will have very big troubles getting anything on there. So go for an 8GB at the bare minimum.

Hello. I've just used the 3DS Guide website to hack my 2DS XL.
Every section was done sucessfuly expect for the "Finalizing Setup" At the end of Step 17 on that section, my 3DS does not boot. It has a blue light for a second and it turns off. As far as I know i've done every step correctly.

Check if your SD card is inserted properly. Try pressing on the plastic where the SD card would be. If that doesn't work, let us know.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

1-Backup your files.
2-Format your SD card using guiformat. Format it as FAT32 with 32kb cluster size.
3-Test your SD card using h2testw.

If everything is ok with your card, restore your contents and put the latest Luma release (the boot.firm file) in your SD card, replacing the existing one.

@MikeTheKnight2016
  • Do you hear a popping noise when it turns off?
  • What happens when you try booting it without the SD card?
  • Can you enter Recovery Mode?
If you can't access Recovery Mode or GodMode9, your issue is hardware based either with a bad card reader, disconnected flex cable (or one with broken lead), and if this is an old 2DS/3DS , WiFi module may need to be reseated.

These should help you out, assuming this would be your issue currently.

If you have there should be a boot.firm file in the sd card root. Not in a zip or rar file but a boot.firm file itself. it sounds like its missing.

If you restore a save with checkpoint must there be a save file for the game first or can you install from a fresh start, also can I restore saves made with checkpoint with another save manager. I'm trying to restore my earlier Mario odyssey save but it's s fresh install of the game that I haven't even started yet, checkpoint says save restored successfully but doesn't show when starting the game. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
