Hi, what can I use to make a save file backup (and restore) of a game stored internally?
JKSM and/or Checkpoint.

If you mean NAND/preinstalled titles with "internally" don't forget to set
"nand_saves": true
in sd:/3ds/Checkpoint/config.json

Good luck and have fun!

Hello!
Just done all steps by this tutorial 3ds guide with my New 3DS + 256GB micro SDXC card and I am looking for answers to start :)

1. Can I make load themes on boot with Anemone, or I need to load them every time I power on my 3DS?
2. Can I play online cia games and be safe (for example Mario Kart 7)?
3. Any advice what software (applications) is worth to install to start this journey? :)

I have a question, I’ve searched everywhere online and can’t find an answer to it.

say I downloaded a game on the eshop and saved it to the sd. If I was to put said sd card into a gateway/r4 card would I then be able to run in that way?

basically I’m an avid collector and like my physical versions, I’d like to have my own for my collection of games that weren’t released as physical copies. If that won’t work, is there other ways to produce a similar effect? I also came across these blank carts

A normal R4 cart is for DS games, not 3DS. It will not play any 3DS games.

Expensive 3DS mode flashcarts exist. The mimic retail games and are limited to unmodified ROMs from the same region as the console (if the console does not have CFW). No homebrew, no romhacks, no eShop-only games. You will not find much tolerance or help for questions about Sky3DS+ on GBAtemp anyway (I can't help you with that because I don't own such a thing) and just get the link to 3ds.hacks.guide over and over again.

Sorry for the negative reply. I don't know any way to achieve your goal of creating physical versions of download-only games.

By the way: The screenshot you attached is not blank carts but new cases for damaged games.

Nevertheless:

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the reply. Do you know any of the names of these expensive flash cards you mentioned? Do they still need an sd card to work?

Apologies if my questions are stupid, I’m just clueless with all this

There are only two I know of: Sky3DS+ and Stargate 3DS (which claims to be an all-in-one solution for DS, 3DS games and ntrboot for installing custom firmware but seems to have a lot of problems as well).

Please keep in mind that both of these mimic retail games and switch through the ROMs on the micro-SD with physical buttons. They have no menu like flashcarts in DS mode (Startgate should have a menu in DS mode of course). No device I know of has the capability to make eShop-only titles run from SLOT-1 without CFW.
My knowledge on this topic is very limited and I can't say if starting arbitrary software from SLOT-1 in 3DS mode becomes possible with CFW (and how??)

Gateway3DS (outdated, please don't use) used it's own custom firmware for launching games but it does not work on higher firmware versions and has a ton of problems.

To put it short:
Signature checks and the overall improved security makes simple "repo-carts" impossible on newer consoles.

I bought an used New 2DS XL and it came with Luma 9.0 at CTRNAND (the sd card is empty). Is it possible to completely remove the CFW?

I just want to play some Pokemon games with the original cartridges.

Edit: Ok, it seems that removing the CFW is not a good option. My question is: Can I play original games on a CFW? Will the online features still work?

I recently bought an old 3DS.

It comes with Luma3DS

Version Sys 11.9.0-42U
Luma 3ds v9.1

If I connect my o3DS to the internet, is it possible that the system updates by itself and the jailbreak don't work anymore?
I ask that because I have a Playstation 3 in the past and it's forbidden to connect to the internet, because Sony updates the console and the jailbreak stop works after that.

They [3DS cart games] work in online play. Don't cheat.

Hi,
I'm new and am trying to read all this information, but there is a lot, I hope you can help with my 4 simple questions, sorry for long post.

1 - Is the main point of a 3DS flashcard to only play DSi/DS/NDS games on the 3DS and that's it?
2 - What about the 3DS eShop games, Is there a way to put them on a 3DS flash card and play them on the 3DS system? Example: Code of Princess or Moon Chronicles?
3 - I have a 2DS XL**, I’m reading the 3DShack guide,, I’m thinking of going the ‘ntrboot’ way, but was wondering if I do this, will it act like how my DS-Lite is set up, or is it going to flash/change some sort of 2DS system software? Recommended ‘Compatible Flashcart’ to use?

4 - I keep reading that ‘3DS cards are expensive“, I see them from $9-$14 on “nds-card” site, that’s not expensive. The ones that come with mSD cards do go up in price, I see one for $37.99, but I have a lot of mSD cards so I don’t need any more. Is that why they are called, ‘expensive’?

Note2:
I don’t care about ‘changing themes/editing-save files-adding cheats to games, I plan to play them as if they are my own official physical copy, just like I do with my DS-Lite/collection.

**SPECIAL NOTE: I'm only really familiar with my R4 (Says on card, “Revolution for DS : NDSL/NDS“) for my DS-Lite. I put the roms of my physical games on the mSD card and when booting up the DS-Lite, I can brows/play any of my games (This is what I used when I went on vacation instead of trying to carry all my physical games, and what I hope to do with my 3DS/2DS system)!

Sorry again or the long post/multi-questions, Hope to hear from you.
Thank you!

The "3DS" in the name of many flashcarts means: "Works on 3DS" but only in DS-mode. These carts are cheap; you can get (no so good ones) for just $5. Compatible with 2|3DS but not for 3DS software.
The expensive ones for 3DS mode are Stargate3DS and Sky3DS+ (about $60 to $80)

2 - What about the 3DS eShop games, Is there a way to put them on a 3DS flash card and play them on the 3DS system? Example: Code of Princess or Moon Chronicles?
The security system of the 3DS only allows starting signed 3DS software from the correct region via SLOT-1. eShop only games don't work with 3DS mode flashcarts.

It will change the software:
  • Installing B9S as bootloader
  • B9S loads Luma3DS which improves the OS
    • Removes restrictions (signature checks, whitelist checks) -- This allows starting arbitrary software (including eShop exclusive games and homebrew/emulators)
    • Additional functions -- no matter if you need them or not (cheats, blue light filter, screenshots, input redirection...)
This is not how Sky3DS+ works. It has two buttons to browse through the ROMs and the currently selected ROM appears on Home Menu as if the retail cart was inserted. No convenient if one has many games but it is the only way to bypass the 3DS mode security on unmodified consoles.
======================

By following 3ds.hacks.guide you get the possibility to install your games (CIA files) to the console micro-SD. They will work exactly as if you bought them on eShop (I've dumped and installed all my carts because carrying these expensive things in addition to the expensive console is not a good idea).

As for "What flashcart for ntrboot?"... hmmhm normally it would be the R4i Gold 3DS Plus with internal switch for ntrboot. But it is currently sold out wherever I looked. A very old R4 cannot be updated/flashed for ntrboot. Consider using the Seedminer method.

For playing your old DS games there is TWiLight Menu++. Makes any R4 almost obsolete (and is better for the battery).

Good luck and have fun!

Hey I have a save file on Twilight Menu for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days. I want to buy the cartridge, but I am doing so for the multiplayer, thing is it needs a save file. Is there any way for me to transfer my save file from the rom into the cartridge?

Also something more confusing, since the game doesn't record a name or anything, if I were to place the save file on to a second cartridge, and then play multiplayer for both cartridges with the same save file would it still work (assuming that the previously mentioned is possible)?
Thanks a bunch!

I’m fairly new to all of this and I had a few questions.

1.) Whenever I install a cia should I be worried about installing it to the wrong place on accident? I’ve heard of people doing that before. What could I do to prevent that?

2.) all of my anemone themes work great, but the music doesn’t loop on any of them. What could be the reason behind that?

3.) a minor problem but, whenever I’m done installing a cia, I can’t “unwrap” it unless I go into another application and back out. What could be the cause?
