Halo 3 heads to The Master Chief Collection on PC next week

PC players will soon be able to continue playing through the Halo series, as the third title is headed to Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Game Pass before the end of this month. Halo 3 will be releasing on July 14th, bringing with it the same optimizations and features that the previous PC ports offered, such as 4K support, 60+fps, mouse and keyboard input, the forge/theater, and 24 multiplayer maps. Currently, the collection of games are available for purchase on Steam for a slight discount as part of the Steam Summer Sale, or you can purchase titles individually, with the latter priced at $7.99 each on sale, or the former available for $31.99 until July 9th.

Calling Halo a generic shooter is plain ignorance and shows you only scratched the surface of it but even on the surface the game is fun, just not for very long...

It is generic, extremely. No where near as bad as Gears of War, but still linear, generic rubbish.

I didn't say a lot of people didn't like it, but I don't.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Apples to oranges. It's fair you don't like Halo 3... But they're not comparable. :rofl2:

I played their flight (beta) and it felt like the best port yet. So smooth and fun to play. Feel like they've learned a lot since Reach.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'd hate to see what you think an original game is... Halo... Generic.. You're hilarious.

Don't take it so personally, I wasn't calling you, just the game is bland and generic. Fan boys are hilarious, lol.

You don't like it sure, it doesn't make it generic tho, I gave a real argument in a previous post as to why it's not generic and the only thing you can do is just re-iterate your statement, there's not much weight in the balance for me to believe you...

Lol, I didn't say nope liked it, I said something to the contrary actually.

It is generic and very linear, just because you're a fan boy, there is no reason to blindly defend something and take offense.

There is nothing original about the game, it is a mindless shooter, of which there are many. It's far from being the worst and it is well polished, but - I - find it boring.

Neat, put a lot of time into the multiplayer of 3 back in the day. Just two more games to go at this point, ODST and 4. I'm glad they've gotten so far so fast, I wasn't expecting to have 4/6 games done in just 6ish months since PC launch. I hope they add Halo 5 to the collection at some point, that'd be a lovely addition before Infinite launches, but I doubt it.
Halo 5 I must have missed that one was it a Xbox One exclusive... ? Must have been.... Ive been playing them all again since launch.... & enjoying Online games too... Last halo I finished was Halo 4 on 360 I'm still hoping the would add a Run button like swoth to reach controls on Halo 1 or 2 ect.... Great Games.. But just I wish I could run!

Yes, 5 was an Xboner exclusive. Was pretty bad, TBH, not a good Halo game at all...but to have all the Halo games in one place anyways would just be really nice

Re: Halo being generic.

Other than popularising 2 gun* and leaning more into health recharge (not necessarily a good thing from where I sit as it changes level design and game challenge considerably, but also how many games scattered some health pickups after set pieces) than some other games was it not?
Supersoldier with vehicles in a fairly soft sci fi setting. Granted this was in the middle of the world war 2 "holy fuck did you see how many copies medal of honor sold" phase so was something of a breath of fresh air there, even if you could still plausibly be burned out on the notion of future sci fi fun from earlier .

*and it is not like older games did not have levels wherein you might have just had a starting gun, basic enemy pickup and maybe a bonus later in the level when the ammo ran out or the sidearm was there mostly to allow you to get a enemy/better pickup and ignored afterwards or maybe not fluff a stealth section.

It did some good things and I liked the co-op modes well enough (though co-op even done even vaguely well elevates most games to something I like to have) and multiplayer was OK as a console time waster (we were still at a point where the PC represented something rather different to console offerings, even if not quite as stark of one as the generation before, and reasonable money no object I would never have picked Halo or its earlier sequels as the game of choice here).
Some kind of greatest of all time... that is a harder sell. I would probably include it in a you probably ought to have played this list for an aspiring game creator, commentator, reviewer or generally looking to get invested in the hobby but at the same time there is so much ahead of it in the list and ultimately I would not consider it an oversight to have not played them. Systems wise I would also say it holds up far worse than a lot of older games.

On 3. Other than to see where the story went after 2 it failed to rock my world. Still I could stand to see it be revisited in some manner, though maybe a remake rather than a tarted up port/remaster.
Would like to see ODST again too.
4 and beyond they can keep, even if some of the nicer examples of custom games and waves of enemies were in those.

Now you're just paraphrasing your first statement and trying to make it pass as a fully fledged argument, try harder next time...

Hahaha, are you seriously still crying?

I already said I wasn't attacking you, get over it. I'd also advise educating yourself and learning what a fanboy is, after you understand, you'll look in the mirror and be disgusted. Trust me, it isn't good for anyone.

Halo CE introduced sophisticated AI compared to most fps campaigns at the time. Other fps on hard difficulties, they just require memorizing checkpoints and a bit of trial and error. Halo the harder difficulties many enemies required a bit better of thought and tactics to dispatch. Some had a certain trick to killing them which was nice variety. Combine this with couch co-op, it was an experience not really that generic in its day.

Halo 2 paired with Xbox live on the OG Xbox, was an online multiplayer experience ahead of its time on console. The net code was spot on, the arenas and balance was nailed pretty well on launch. Halo 2 still has a good amount of players online even excluding the MCC.

The sequels introduced an immense amount of multiplayer modes with reasonably complex menu customization options that you didnt typically see on console.

Shoot for the weak spot was hardly a new concept even then.

I don't know that I would rate Halo's AI that high. Take cover, break morale by killing leader and force landing or line of sight was something nice and better than the far more common blind rush and maybe throw a grenade, and if nothing else I am glad that at least got something moving there (even if it was probably an inevitability -- it is not like such things did not exist in beat em ups and RTS games for years before then).

Netcode is netcode whether it happens on a console, mobile phone, doorbell or PC. It is why we all laughed and continue to laugh at Nintendo's abysmal setups despite the "it's their first attempt" stuff.

If I compared Halo sequels to Perfect Dark on options?

First of all, I never felt threatened and my posts contain no traces of emotional reactions (this includes crying), I just wanted you to have a proper debate as to why the game is supposedely generic, you utterly failed to push any argument and when you were asked for some you just paraphrased your statement in a more fashionable way, that's not how a debate works, so yeah, I really don't care about the opinion of someone who can't really construct a criticism based on something else than pure feelings...

Second of all, I'm not a fanboy for one simple reason, if you read my previous posts about the Halo franchise you can see that I don't blindly oblige into sucking 343i's titties if what they do is bad, even Bungie did one bad Halo game (campaign wise) and that is Halo 2, a fanboy just loves anything and can't be critical of anything related to his favorite franchise, that's clearly not my case, I'm just appreciating a nice FPS franchise here...

But yeah, not sure why I keep answering you when you are not being polite and can't even see the points I'm making...

As I was writing about the halo mp options I was considering mentioning Perfect Dark N64, the only console FPS I can think of have that had a comparible wealth of customization options well before halo.

You are certainly right that halo AI wasn't the first time this stuff was seen when you include other genres, but it was far and above better than the generic fps of the time. In my opinion, anyways.

I think its hard to ignore the polish of the online component of Halo 2. While PC gamers were used to this by then, I think Halo 2 set the stage for online competitive console shooters. I find it hard to think of an online competitive FPS that could compare on PS2.

Halo 2 on xbox basically invented matchmaking as we know it, PC gamers didn't have that at the time, we had dedicated server hosting and server browsers and we kept it that way for a while, matchmaking began to be popularized on PC with the release of Modern Warfare 2...

By the way, did the PS2 even have online shooters? and competitive ones moreover?
I guess there was Killzone and SOCOM that were a bit popular but I'm not sure if those had a competitive scene...

What a horror that was. Servers that anybody could run with a series of mods and maps of their choosing, and actually still can to this day without worry of servers being shut down.

Diablo (1997), and especially its sequel, had some pretty decent matchmaking as well as far as grouping players of similar level and seeking active servers.

It's clear you consider yourself "intelligent", what with the condescending tones. Going back to your fist pist where you claim you've already posted an in depth post with your reasoning, which is 100% bull, but I let it slide.

Lol, not a fan boy? Hahaha

Killzone was more generic and boring than most other shooters too. Socom, although a third person tactical shooter, was pretty good (first 2 anyway).
