The Last of Us Part II sells over 4 million in 3 days

"We’re delighted to report that The Last of Us Part II is now the fastest-selling first-party PS4 exclusive ever with more than 4 million copies sold through as of June 21. This milestone would not have been reached without the support from our amazing fans, so on behalf of everyone at SIE, thank you!"

By comparison, Spiderman was the previous record holder with 3.3 million in 3 days. The Last of Us 2 obliterated Spiderman and is now the best selling PlayStation exclusive ever.

Neil Druckmann, Vice President of Naughty Dog and Director of The Last of Us Part II, wanted to share this message with you all:

"We are so immensely grateful to the millions of fans around the world that have played The Last of Us Part II and shared their experiences with us over the last week. We set out to tell a new kind of story, one that deals with difficult themes and would challenge you in unexpected ways. Hearing how the experience has resonated with so many of you and witnessing the type of thoughtful discussions it has sparked has been so incredible. We’ve also been so inspired by your creativity — whether it’s your gorgeous Photo Mode shots, jaw-dropping gameplay GIFs, or the songs you’ve recorded using Ellie’s guitar.

The Last of Us Part II was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog. We can imagine no greater honor than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone."

I must be the only person who knows the spoilers and that's just only made me want to play it even more. I've never understood hostility to a game from people who haven't played it. You have to judge things by how it's delivered. The whole TLOU furore is just ridiculous to me.

Well, if someone told you about The Last Jedi and how Luke essentially is not who he used to be and that he drank green milk he pumped out of an alien's nipple, in addition to all of the other fuckery going on with that film, would it make you want to watch it if you believed what that person told you?

This reminds me, I still need to see The Last Jedi. And yes I would watch it. If I'm going to have an opinion on something, positive or negative, I need to experience it first hand. That goes for TLJ or the TLOU.

Resident Evil and The Last of Us are very different franchises. The Resident Evil 2 remake set a benchmark of what future RE games should be, and despite the complaints I believe the Resident Evil 3 remake followed that direction while remaining true to its roots and more action-oriented, much like the original Resident Evil 3. I too think that Resident Evil 7 is the wrong path, it seems that Resident Evil 8 will follow in its footsteps, but that might be because it was already in development and scrapping it at this stage would just be wasteful. I think Capcom is benchmarking the two approaches to see which one comes on top, and although I don't have a crystal ball, RE2Make is unlikely to be beat. In any case, no, I don't think RE should become more like TLOU, it should be its own thing, with its own inventory system and a focus on environmental puzzles that span the entire map, as opposed to the more linear, level-based nature of TLOU.

R3make just cut too much for the sake of a shitty multiplayer game I can't imagine many are playing right now. R3make should have been a singleplayer-focused game with free updates (like, the Mercenaries gets added in later, because, given the game's development schedule, I wouldn't have been surprised if, had they remade the game and not cut out the "slower" parts and all of the things that make a Resident Evil game a Resident Evil game, that would have taken up all of the time to get it out the door in the timeframe that they did, even if I think they should have just made it a cross-generational release like a lot of PS3/PS4 or Xbox 360/XBOne games were at the launch of this generation). The fact that people think Mr. X is more of a threat than Nemesis (when I think they exaggerated the former as the only time you were fucked with him is if you were in a tight hallway which, given his loud footsteps, you have only yourself to blame if you get in that scenario) is hilarious given that I don't think many of them played the originals!

OK...just don't be this guy:

Political agenda is why. A srsly fked up one at that.

OK, if you're saying this, then clearly, you haven't played the first game's expansion. Yeah, I know, I never did "play" the original, but I was one of those guys who, in 2014/2015, because he didn't have a job, watched the game's and its expansion's cutscenes, and honestly, if you're surprised by the characters being LGBTQIA+ at this point, the only thing I can say is that you should have been pissed off years ago.

I have played the first game. But expansion? was there? I dont remember that being there...
Anyway I have never seen LBTQ in a game. def not for main charachters in triple A game. It offends me. Because it goes against what a human is. It is a distortion of being human. And a poisonous belief that damages culture. This is the political agenda.

Left Behind, Ellie kisses her female friend. This was six years ago.

Sounds like you're just a homophobe if you think homoseuality is a distortion of humanity.. I really wonder how you cope in real life with LBGTQ people.

I survived the prequel trilogy. I think I'll be ok.

I guess I shouldn't recommend The Danish Girl to you...

I think it was called Left Behind or something like that. It was DLC for the PS3 version of the game, but included with the remaster on PS4. Ellie was lesbian with the girl in there.

I accept that it is their view, of course. Im saying the charachter design/story and agenda is bad enough to make it so you don't buy it regardless of how good the game is. But I see it for what it is. You need to repel poison. And if it starts to infect my entertainment, ofc im not going to be happy about. Im sure the gameplay is good, but like I said you are setting a bad precedent if you just don't care. You are telling it's okay. To fk up our games with mind control bs. A philosophy that will poison the minds esp of younger people. It's a cult. And it is active in todays world so it is a bit different then lets say something that may have happend 50 years ago or something.
Your mind is a safe haven, you might want to treat a little concern in what you absorb.

I don't know why you all think boycotting this game was a good idea (because the boycott would've failed anyway).

But let's say the boycott succeeded and the game doesn't hit sales expectations/is a failure. Who would've suffered more in the long term? The employees. Because it puts their jobs at risk & the higher ups will probably encourage crunching more than they already have to make up for the lost revenue.

You think this will put a big dent in Naughty Dog & make them rethink what they're doing. But in reality, employees will either be laid off or treated even worse than they are already.

It is always funny that people who claim or support to be for accepting and for equality are vicious to others with differing opinions about the movement.

To be fair, some of the themes in TLOU2 are exaggerated to the point of being comical. A lot of the early gaffes revolve around Dina and just feel fake. I'm not going to post any spoilers, it's still a little early for that, but there are two scenes in Seattle that had me shake my head and think "Yes Neil Druckmann, we get it". I don't expect literary genius from a video game, but I also don't like it when the writing hammers a point as if the audience was stupid - it's a bad look.

What employees? 70% of one of the departments working on the game had resigned by the time Druckmann was done, a lot of the original creators are not with the company anymore or have moved on to other projects.

Edit: I tell a lie, this happened after Uncharted 4 crunch and immediately before The Last of Us 2 went into development "full steam", so to speak. With that said, the turnaround in the company is said to be around that mark - 70%.

I've yet to see a sensible and well articulated explanation anywhere on the internet on what is supposedly so bad about this game. Unless you have a problem with gay people or muscular women, having played 90% of the game (it just keeps going) I don't see what else could be objectionable.

TLOU 2 is one of the most ambitious and impressive games I've ever played. Maybe the story didn't go quite the way I expected (even though I'm not quite sure what I expected) but the gameplay is extremely satisfying. The fights are so intense, especially against the human AI. The playfields you get to fight in are so well laid out - it reminds me of MGSV somewhat, with the many ways you're able to approach combat.

As I said I haven't finished the game yet (I think I have 1-2 hours left) so I'm not quite sure what my final score would be but you're definitely doing yourself a disservice as a gamer if you don't at least give it a go (and the first one for that matter).

I'll let you know if I agree when I get round to playing it

Y'know what? When I finish I'll do a big thread detailing my thoughts on it. I like to think when I'm being serious, I offer some broadly decent analysis on games.

I look forward to reading that. The game is a technical marvel and the gameplay is A-grade, even the story is alright for what it is, but it does have its... moments.
