one of my xbox (160gb hard drive, has a chip) don´t start at once, the console works OK...but maybe I sell it and I want to know if I can fix that (some times I have to turn it on 3 or 4 times to start up normaly), when it star up normaly gives video and make some distinctive sound (like a HHD that start up hard...loud), but works ok, when do not start it flash red to green and do not give video.

any help?

Autum....winter is coming, so I think is not a temperature issue, but maybe I can try without the enclousure.

Uhhh yeah those other seasons are coming but right now it's summer. If the system is hot it can overheat. Happening to me on two consoles.

For starters is it a 1.0-1.5 with the clock capacitor removed?

Do you have a backup of the HDD key or a bios which doesn’t require one?

Taking a few attempts would make me think it’s something like a bad cap or failing hdd.

I have 2 xbox, but the other is with a ide to sata adapter and a 2tb hdd, I think both make the same, multiple attemps to start up,. I don´t know about clock capacitor removed (I can check If somebody tell me how to...) don´t have HDD key or bios, I bought it used and replace HDD which was 10gb

Here is a general guide I found:
https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/wiki/clock_capacitor

Although I do think it would be better to properly desolder it if possible.

Edit:

If you replaced the HDD without 'locking' it, then it likely means you don't need one due to the modchip's BIOS.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
