I've been a very happy customer of the v19 DragonInjector since release, but recently I started experiencing issues. When I plug the injector into my Switch, the DI LED will very quickly flash red, then blue for about 1 second, and repeat that cycle over and over. My Switch's screen remains black, no text appears that it is loading a payload.

I connected the DI to my computer; no firmware updates were available. I keep my DI in single payload mode. The issue has happened with multiple payloads, and I've double checked that the payloads are not affected by an archive bit.

Any ideas? Did I accidentally break my DI somehow? Thanks!

I've seen a few units have the pressure on the battery loosen over time due to the copper battery contact flattening out, in all but one case tightening up the screw a bit fixed the issue. You'll know if that's the cause by gently pinching the DI while injecting - if that fixes it, it's just a battery connection issue.

I have had one other person report a similar issue that turned out that they somehow managed to mess with the USB calibration registers on the MCU - leaving the DI plugged in for a minute or two with the red/blue LED cycle caused it to eventually recalibrate and work properly.

If you try both of these and it doesn't fix the issue please let me know!

Thanks for your quick reply! I tightened the screw as best I could (the smallest I have is PH000), and that seemed to work! 3 straight injections with no issues. Thanks!

Battery connection possibly - try pinching the DI when youre trying to inject - if that doesn't work then jump in discord and ping matinator

Mattytrog is a good guy, as far as I'm concerned supporting his hobbies is just as good for Switch community development as supporting mine. :)

Hey everyone! I want to share a project I'm currently working on - a payload injector with the form factor of a Switch game cart!

As I seem to always forget to bring my phone, cable, OTG adapter or dongle with me, and I'm not a big fan of AutoRCM, I started thinking - wouldn't it be great if I could just store my jig and dongle inside my Switch? I don't really like the idea of opening my switch and soldering to it for warranty/resale reasons, and my card slot is always empty because, well, we live in the age of digital. Thus, DragonInjector was born.

DragonInjector FAQ:
What is DragonInjector?
DragonInjector is a general purpose MCU board housed a similar form factor to that of a game cartridge, so it can easily be stored inside your console.

How is it powered?
DragonInjector is powered by a user-replaceable CR1612 watch battery. One is included pre-installed.

Does this click in my game card slot like a normal game card?
Yes! Mechanically, it behaves exactly the same way.

Can this charge from the game card slot?
Nope. A rechargeable model wouldn't provide enough benefit to justify the much higher expense required to develop and manufacture it.

What about those game card pins then? What do they do?
They're there for aesthetic purposes only and to protect the pins in the gamecard slot from damage and wear. They are not electrically connected to anything.

I'm an advanced user, can I write my own firmware? What about updates?
Of course! Feel free to fork the GitHub and make whatever changes you wish - everything is open source! If you make something cool, let me know! In the event the firmware on the DI requires updating or you want to write your own, you can just plug it into a computer and use the free firmware tool to update or customize the firmware. You can find a link to the GitHub at the bottom of this page.

Is there a place we can follow and chat about the project or ask questions that aren't fit for this development thread?
Yes! There's a Discord server where I post progress, renders, photos, and other things quite often. Click the button in my signature to join!

When can I get one?
Availability estimated for March, however this is not a set date.

How much will it cost?
$30 USD, which includes a CR1612 and Type C adapter. Shipping cost varies by region.

Where can I buy it?
When more are ready, you'll be able to purchase them from the web store. You can visit the store page by clicking the button in my signature.

Shipping to my country is expensive. Will you consider combined shipping?
Of course! Visit the Discord server and find your country under the "Combined Shipping Help" category on the left to coordinate with other buyers in your area. If your country doesn't exist, mention me in the #dragoninjector channel and let me know you'd like it added.

What colors will it be offered in?
The first batch of units will be available in translucent green and black. If there is enough demand for other colors they will become an option in the future.

Since this is sold out, how do we sign up for email updates for the next version/available to order? Can't wait!

Red won! An injection molding supplier has now been chosen after a lot of consideration (and me learning how to make moldable parts), and a down payment on the mold and some samples has been sent. I should have the sample parts in a few weeks, and if they look good, 1000 black and 1000 red sets should arrive on my doorstep a few weeks after that. :D

While those are being made, I am going to be hand-soldering 100 early-bird v20's to help fund a larger batch from PCBway, similar to what I did for v19. This early-bird batch will be sold on the Discord and shipped by me directly, and I'll make sure to let everyone know a week before they become available, which should be around the end of July. The big batch of 600 should then hit the shop sometime in September, along with extra shells for those who want one for their v19. ^_^

(Remember that these are all guesstimates and things can change, especially with everything going on right now!)

As a reminder, v20 adds an RGB LED and the injection molded shell, but is otherwise functionally identical to v19. :P

EDIT: Should mention laser engraving on the mold was free, so for those of you that hate stickers the logo is now subtly showing on the shell itself, which should look pretty slick in my humble opinion. Added some renders of red and black shells to show how it should look, as well as some other colors I want to make if there's still demand after the batch of 600.

That laser engraving looks wonderful! I really like the transparent purple and green, will look great with the parts inside. But I'll happily buy whatever is available.

Cheers! Looking forward to trying to get in on the early-bird batch.

Are the V20 injection molded cases going to fit the previous hardware?
That's the plan! They won't fit quite as well as the v20 boards since I moved the hole inwards on the PCB to line it up better with the hole on the shell, but they will work. If you've ever taken apart your v19 you'll understand - it's doable, but it can be a pain to put the screw back in.
