Pokemon developer Game Freak is bringing one of their other projects to the PC platform. Little Town Hero, which originally released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019, is getting its previously-announced PlayStation 4 port next week on June 23rd, while the newly-revealed Steam version is set for launch on June 30th. Meanwhile, NIS America will be publishing physical editions of the game, due out for the PS4 the same date as its digital release, and a "Big Idea Edition" for the Switch, launching June 26th.

Who cares, Gamefreak despite being a huge company is not even able to make a good game, Pokemon only sells thanks to the brand, this thing and all the other games they have made before (who remember Tembo the badass elephant ? I didn't even knew "Giga Wrecker" existed) aren't necessarily THAT bad but come on, it's not a little company, they could make any game they want, they just won't take any risk despite them trying to sometimes do something other than Pokemon in order to survive if they don't have the Pokemon license anymore. Tho they won't if they stick with those standards.
Just stop fucking around Gamefreak, do something good instead of forcing yourself into annual Pokemon games. I already said that before but I don't know any single person who wouldn't play a huge Pokemon game, I mean, an ambitious one, not only targeted to the kids but also the fans. Just an ambitious project, like BoTW was. It's not easy to do, but again, I don't know any person who wouldn't want to play that. Even people who aren't necessarily fan of the franchise would play.
*gasp* I have to stop wasting my time thinking about what a waste it is

I played it for about 2 hours, which I consider a massive waste of time. Either I wasn't playing it right, or it has one of the worst battle systems of any game. Even the tutorial battle lasted over 30 minutes. To score damage, you need to whittle down the enemy's defenses in a few rounds and if you don't, they get all their defenses back and it resets. The moves you can use are random, so you will rarely get the full set of attack abilities you need to actually score damage. It's the same with your HP, so the enemy can't hurt you either. It's just a non-stop stalemate.

I mostly played it for the music since Undertale/Delta Rune have amazing soundtracks, but Toby Fox phoned this one in. All of the ~6 or so songs I heard were unremarkable generic fantasy music that anyone could have composed.

Disappointing in every way.

I don't even remember this one being released. huh. Well, glad they're at least trying to find another thing to do.

Toby fox. is that...undertale? another game i haven't played yet. I do wonder what happened with his girlfriend drama.

They consist of about 148 employees, according to wikipedia, which seems like a lot, but is about the size of a large indie developer. Dividing that amount across HR, artist, admin, coders, designers, developers, platform divisions (cellphone, switch), etc and it's not as much as you'd think. Given their mandate of putting a game out every year or so, they'd also have to split that number across different games and teams to ensure things get developed in a timely manner. So, for them to make a huge game would take a lot more man power, time, and risk than they're currently able to. A huge influx of new people can be tricky and also adds risk. and if we know anything about Gamefreak is they like to play it safe. Really, It's a stable formula, but even the most stable of formula will grow stale. Their solution is to just keep bringing on new customers, meaning kids.

I guess it's working out for them financially...but I agree with you a bit. They should be doing more. They need to do something weird and unusual. I'm not sure I agree with just making a huge open-world game, those take so long and require so many teams, but...something. it feels so...disinfected.

Gamefreak is a lot like Sega, they put at a lot of half baked, buggy, boring games but their brands are worthwhile, safe, and sell well to children. It's kind of ironic that the developers behind the most successful franchise in entertainment history are completely ignorant to modern game design and everything 3D is outsourced because they can't handle that level development.

I still love them. =/

I dunno - not only Sega still publish a lot of cool games, but they're also pretty open to experimentation, be it releasing bizarre spin-offs for their biggest series, or allowing talented fans to take the wheel from time to time. To me, Sega is ahead of the curve in some ways, especially when it comes to keeping their legacy alive (their retro collections and recent remakes of older games put most other publishers to shame). GameFreak, on the other hand, is pretty much behind the curve, as much as I still like their output :<

ust an ambitious project, like BoTW was.
While I agree with the majority of your comment, this...no. BotW was an utter abomination; it was "ambitious", but not at all a "worthwhile" one.
I don't want anything to be like BotW - that is to say, crippled by stupid mechanic hindrances such as limited stamina and equipment fragility, repetitive locations like the shrines were, and being far too open and large and tedious to traverse.
It's why I love the DS Pokemon games so much; they were definitely linear closed-worlds, but they still had the sense of adventure and technical improvements and additions they needed. While some things were dropped between each pair of games (and Platinum), there were enough new things added to compensate - no more VS Seeker? Gym Leader rematches. No more Gym Leader rematches? Shaking grass, for Audino. Walking Pokemon, seasons, Hidden Abilities, fully-animated Pokemon sprites followed by animated trainer sprites for every trainer class (not just important ones like rivals and Gym Leaders), Distortion World, Pokeathlon, Battle Frontier, Key System, etc.

There were no real crippling factors, unlike in BotW. Nothing to make me wish they had made something else, something they already had experience making.
Until XY, anyway.

A larger Pokemon game should be like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, methinks - somewhat-large environments, but not too large; no overly-intrusive bullshit mechanics (gacha's just to get Rare Blades; once gotten, it doesn't affect anything else); fun action-oriented fights with moves being the equivalent of Arts, with the Trainers providing support from behind.
I dunno.

Sega needs to port their Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 mobile remakes to other platforms, since those mobile games have additional functionality over the original games.
Who made those mobile games? Hangman and someone else, I think...I dunno, never played them since I hate touch controls and hate most Bluetooth controllers (the majority of them are unfortunately modelled after Xbox controllers, which are horribly uncomfortable and horrendously designed). I'd certainly buy and play them on my Switch or laptop, though.

There has been a definite drop in quality.

Pokemon Yellow is amazing for a first gen game.

Gold and Silver are my favourite in the series.

Then... came third Gen, buggy as hell, the only really good game was Pokemon Emerald.

Then the DS had Pokemon Black and White, the rest are quite forgettable.

Then I didn't care about Pokemon until Sun and Moon.

The Pokemon Switch games? Eh, The Pokemon Go ones had a 50 $ bucks DLC for Mew and it even came with an expiration date mesning that if you bought the darn Pokeball after that date you got nothing.

The others? Screw Galar.

Giant Battles are not worth the much reduced cast of Pokemon.

That's your opinion, while I agree there are some problems with BoTW, it may be one of my favorite game of all time. I wouldn't take Xenoblade 2 as an example tho, the scenario is dumb and bullshit, it's cliché asf, it's so cliché it made me cringe so hard and I have never cringed in front of a video game before, but a Pokemon game could take it's landscapes as an example tho, it's one of the things I totally enjoyed with Xenoblade 1 & 2, it's the landscapes, you feel so small and it's really beautiful, having this kind of environment filled with Pokemon and places to explore would be so great

I started with the gen 3 so I'm kinda biaised, but even for then it was quite good (started with Saphir, not Emerald), I enjoyed the underwater areas back then but it never came back ...
Diamond is probably the game I've spent the most time with, I don't think it's forgetable, to me it may have the best story, the Pokemons had really great designs, it was also the beginning of the online component, and best of all things, the "mini quests" had little stories, catching Darkrai, Cresselia, Arceus, Giratina and such ... Were litteraly quests. You would receive a flute or something, in order to catch the Pokemon by yourself. Now a delivery guy just gives it to you and that's all, it's lame.
Black & White were kinda good but I got bored very quickly (tho I REALLY liked the fact that the characters were older like 17), Black & White 2 tho are the best Pokemon games ever made and they never wanted to do better since : story, content, graphics, post-ligue .... there's just everything, it's just great.
I was able to excuse X and Y for being that disappointing, they had to redo all the assets in 3D and they delivered, even tho the unsolved mysteries are stupidly dumb, like "oh yeah we did that because we wanted fans to make theories about it and share in on internet" yeah of course, that's not because you just wanted to fill it with things and take fans for idiots. They don't understand that fans do bother to make theories if there is something beihind, if they just say "oh there's nothing but just make theories" then nobody will give a fuck about it
But yeah, since then, it's all downhill.
I'm more angry towards all those people who yelled at GF because of nationaldex, but still bought the game day one, making it break sales records, like .... The only moment where you have to actually do something (NOT buying the game), they just won't despite being angry. Literally complaining about GF lying and stuff, still buying ... I have nothing about those who still enjoy the game tho, I can't go against that, but I can't stand those people who yelled for something better, yet they don't do what's necessary.

gen 2 is by far buggier than 3

Christian Whitehead is the someone else, i agree a port to main platforms is required, but if you hate the xbox controller and its derivatives, why not use a dualshock 4? android has had native support for it for a while, i dont know if the same is true for iOS as i've never owned an iOS device, joycons i think at the very least have 3rd party support (since you've said you own a switch), 8bitdo's if i remember well work both on android and iOS and i've heard they are great for 2d platformers, the xbox controller and it's derivatives lends itself better to racing games

Wow, the Steam screenshots look exactly like the Switch version, so no actual anti-aliasing.

I'd be surprised if it's not locked to 30fps, but even a playable frame rate wouldn't save this game anyway.
