Ahead of its EA Play event this Thursday, EA revealed its next major Star Wars game, Star Wars: Squadrons. The company describes it as a first-person dogfight game with 5v5 multiplayer, as well as a single-player campaign. While the trailer released today was more of the cinematic kind, EA announced that a first look at the actual gameplay will be showcased during its EA Play event on June 18, 4PM PT.

In a fateful campaign set near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, learn what it means to be a pilot in a thrilling STAR WARS single-player story. The New Republic fights for freedom. The Empire demands order. We need you to join the galaxy’s finest.

About STAR WARS: Squadrons:

  • ALL WINGS REPORT IN – Plan skirmishes with your squadron in the briefing room before taking off to the evolving battlefields across the galaxy. Compete in intense 5v5 multiplayer dogfights or unite with your squadron to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles. Together, you’re the galaxy’s finest.
  • MASTER LEGENDARY STARFIGHTERS – Take control of different classes of starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets – including the agile A-wing and the devastating TIE bomber. Modify your ship, divert the power between its systems, and destroy your opponents in strategic space dogfights.
  • GET IN THE COCKPIT – The cockpit is your home. Use its dashboards to your advantage and – with just a thin hull of metal and glass between you and the perils of space – feel the intensity of combat from a first-person perspective. Take off in thrilling multiplayer modes and a unique single-player Star Wars story, which covers a key campaign near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Immerse yourself in the pilot’s seat completely with the option to play the entirety of Star Wars: Squadrons in Virtual Reality on PlayStation 4 and PC.
  • THE MISSION IS CLEAR – Star Wars: Squadrons is a fully self-contained experience from day one, where you earn rewards through play. Climb the ranks and unlock new components like weapons, hulls, engines, shields, and cosmetic items in a clear path for progression that keeps gameplay fresh and engaging.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be available on October 2, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Origin PC, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Virtual Reality (VR) on PlayStation 4 and PC with cross-play support.

Meh. This is the Star wars game we were given, but it is not the one we were looking for. lol :P

It looks okay, I'm waiting for Respawn Entertainment to announce a sequel to The Fallen Order; (Here's hoping they do) lol :D

Apparently the game will be $40 at launch and contain no microtransactions. Can't wait for actual gameplay. Didn't expect VR support, that may end up being one of the biggest selling points for me.

Ditch multiplayer

If I want to play multiplayer I can just play Battlefront 1 or COD

I want a good story. I swear Multiplayer is going to be the end of gaming. They probably have maybe 5 hours of campaign that isn't good enough.

I will not buy anything from EA. Interesting, EA is an Anti-Nintendo, indeed. FIFA sucks worse on Switch. EA didn't learn anything at all!

These titles are hardly the pinnacle of multiplayer gaming, lol.

There's no way to say that with any certainty yet. All we really know so far is that you can play as the New Republic or the Imperials, so if each of their campaigns turn out to be only 5 hours that'd still be a total of 10.

Yes but 10 hours isn't enough idk about you but a good story deserves minimum 30 hours of game play I guess people try to trim it down to beat repetition but for the $40-$60 they ask for these games you want to play your moneys worth.

It depends I'm honestly not that big of playing multiplayer

As I discussed with pedro702 in the other Squadrons thread, most AAA FPS games come in right around 15 hours for the campaign on the high end. Your typical 30+ hour game is gonna be more of the RPG variety. At a $40 launch price I really wouldn't be that offended with a 10-hour campaign, but that would probably be a dealbreaker at $60.

since tie fighter i have not flown for the empire or anyone else.
xwing vs tiefighter was multiplayer only(at first), and xwing alliance ditched the mouse control.
lucasarts did their best for me not to want to play their games!

let's wait until the reviews come in, and then buy it regardless.

Really? You've never played Rogue Squadron 1-3? You've been missing out, excellent games, particularly in co-op! :)

Nice CGI. I doubt we will get graphics as good during gameplay.
The trailer is all in-engine footage. Pretty standard stuff where the Frostbite engine is concerned as long you have a mid-to-high end PC. Obviously it won't look or run quite as good on base model PS4/XB1.

I'll check out the game play and hopefully it will be good. It should come out on the EA pass in a few months after release.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm not sold on a pre-order yet or anything, but I do like what I'm seeing so far.

no actual gameplay kinda sucks imo, i hate all cinematic trailers, they could show atleast 30 seconds of gameplay imo.
Gameplay is coming on Thursday, so we won't have to wait too long.
