Concept designer shares imagined PS5 console design ahead of launch; mistakenly labelled as "leaks"

ps5.jpg

With the PlayStation 5 event rescheduled for tomorrow, anticipation is building as to what Sony's next console will offer. We've already had a glimpse at the controller and specs, and tomorrow's event is set to showcase the titles that gamers can expect to play on the next-gen console. However, how the console itself looks like has been quite elusive. We saw the alleged V-shaped dev kit which is unlikely to be the final model but nothing officially from Sony.

The lack of hardware info hasn't stopped LetsGoDigital and Dutch designer Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator, from sharing a design of the hardware. This streamlined, two-toned model shares similarities to the PS3 and looks like a more probable final model. However, certain online outlets are claiming this fan design as being "leaks" of the actual PS5 hardware. While realistic-looking, they are only fan renditions of what could be the PS5's look. In fact, this is LetsGoDigital's and Concept Creator's second mockup of the PS5 hardware with a two-tone design, with the previous sharing more angular features.

The actual design is anybody's guess at this point but these mockups help to fill in the need in the meantime. How would you like the PS5 to look like?

I have seen a few of these concept designs now. Some I like some I don't. However, I'm not sure how Sony choose to design the PS5, but I feel confident that whatever design they landed on will be a solid build like the PS4 and those before it and I look forward to tomorrow's event.

it looks like a ps3. tbh i like that- ps4 design didnt look all that unique or great to me
im not worried about how slim it is, as long as it fits under my tv
Gamecube still has the best console design though, sega genesis being second and ps1 being third

It's about time we get something to look at, if it's really launching this year.

I mean, who the fuck gives us the controller to look at and no console? The hell were they thinking?

Which Sega Genesis design are you referring to? The Sega Genesis had several revisions.

Obviously no matter what the final design looks like, some people are gonna hate it. Regardless, Sony is basically in a no-lose situation here since Microsoft gave their design team a budget of $5 to make a Gamecube minus all of the personality.
I still don't get the hate Xbox's been getting. I couldn't care less for the console, but it looks no different than the Xbone and people praised that design.

Reminds me of the PS3. I don't think Sony would want people to think that.
yea lets not remind people of the greatest multimedia console of all time, the console that MADE retroarch, the console that had classics such as metal gear solid 4 and littlebigplanet, the console that made one of the greatest comebacks in gaming history, nahhh lets forget that one

It also cost Sony all of its PS2 profits, not to mention that it was hard to develop for, and most (if not all) multiplats between it and the 360 ran worse on it due to its design. First impressions are always important, and for a lot of people, their first glimpse of the PS5 will be how it physically looks.

Xbox One is pretty bland itself, but the Series X somehow outdid it. It's like Microsoft has been intentionally dulling down their hardware design generation after generation.

All that's left for next gen is to take away the disc drive and the Xbox logo, making it a solid black box. OTOH, if they had wanted to make XBSX's design more palatable, all they had to do was add a clear panel on one side or a digital display on the front with date/time/temperature (ambient and/or internal). Not to mention software-controlled RGB lighting is always an option.

Its just a fan concept art..i don't see any sources from where this artist got the inspiration to create this type of design. And then just claiming “probably most close to the original design”

lol, that video. I can almost imagine the narrator saying, "Space, the final frontier ...".
They know their audience.
