New Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion details, DLC launches June 17th

Encounter new Pokemon, explore new areas, and take on a new adventure in the expansion pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield, which got a new trailer explaining a few new details about what players can expect from the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. On June 17th, the DLC will be available to those that purchased the expansion pack, bringing with it all sorts of content. Certain older Pokemon are returning, with brand new Galarian formes of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. There are also two new Regi-related Pokemon, one a Dragon-type, and the other is Electric. Blastoise and Venusaur will be getting Gigantamx forms to match Charizard. Pokemon Sword and Shield's first part of its expansion pass, the Isle of Armor launches on June 17th, while the second half, the Crown Tundra will go live sometime in fall 2020.

As an extra bonus, Pokemon Home users will be able to claim Hidden Ability Galar starters for a limited time by simply depositing any Pokemon caught in either Sword/Shield to Home.

This is a common practice now look at Dragon Fighter Z the roster was bare bones and they gave out 3 Season passes. I remember in Pokemon Crystal I could go to Kanto and battle 8 gyms for free and sw/sh is charging $30 for 2 islands :rofl2:

Come to think of it why didn't they just do a Jhoto Expansion on the pokemon let's go series that would have been worth the $30 than the 2 islands.

IDK Who works for the pokemon gaming dept but they are not doing a very good job at all.

Fighting games characters take a lot more time to design and balance than a pokemon though.
This particular type of game is well suited for the DLC model. Most people will never complain if there's more fighter passes in Smash. A fighting game interest can last for a very long time thanks to it. Without it, I bet ya FighterZ would have lost a lot in popularity.
... And I mean, they're still not adding Bergamo so they can't even get the furries on board, meh.

Pokemon is a different beast, They should work on a open world, mmo style Pokemon if they ever hope to match the fans expectations. There is just too much to do, too much to animate if you want to do it well, too much to balance, to make a good pokemon game with all the pokemon now.
And they need to stop wasting time reinventing the same kid story at the beginning of each game... part of their fanbase is also 30-40 these days lol.

It really blows that there are no new G-Max or Galarian forms aside from the ones they've shown

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It's not about laziness, it's about monetization. Why give you all the pokemon at once when they can sell them one pack at a time?
They aren't selling you Pokemon. The returning Pokemon can be obtained without the DLC

They are selling you pokemon, it's something they've always done. You're mistaking their absence from the data files, the big issue that everyone was so mad about, for their availability in the games. The returning pokemon won't suddenly be roaming the wilds in the base game, and if you're a normal person who hasn't been constructing a living dex for the past twenty years, and wants to catch all the remaining pokemon, the DLC is the product you'll be purchasing to get that access.

Additionally, they're only bringing back ~200 of 477 missing Pokemon; to my knowledge, exactly which of those 477 Pokemon will make up the ~200 is not fully known. They have revealed some of them (like Slowpoke), but not all of them.
I can bet you a good sum of money though that Legendaries and Mythicals won't be part of that ~200, meaning Palkia, Giratina, Arceus, Rayquaza, Reshiram, Kyurem, Terrakion, Genesect, Volcanion, Lunala, and others still won't be available. Which is incredibly disappointing and frustrating, since I personally love a lot of them.

Didn't even watch the video huh.... just went on the usual rant as it's cool to slag Pokemon off like 99% of the members who've posted on here have (as usual)?? :P Cough the dosh up son!
Haven't seen all the ones you've mentioned, but the cover stars of previous gens are returning, at least the initial games: Lugia/Ho-Oh, Groudon/Kyogre, Dialge/Palkia, Reshiram/Zekrom, etc are all returning, and I certainly expect a Pokemon as popular as Rayquaza to be there too, maybe added to the 2nd island..

...

Lads.... as mentioned, for fuks sake Pokemon has always been a piece of piss to breeze through.. and here we are, 8 generations on, with far more information at our disposal..older..more pokemon with better moves.. etc, etc: like has already been posted, if you want a challenge - self impose one! The only reason Brock gave those who picked Charmander a hard time was simply because there was no real counter available - ditto Misty's Starmie as you only really had Pikachu & Oddish/Bellsprout (and if you picked it, Bulbasaur) which would need major levelling up, to fight it back then. If they imposed similar restrictions on the current games at that stage of the game you'd all be moaning they're being cheap.. just like many moaned about the grind involved, which they've largely removed. And to wheoever moaned they beat the game with one Pokemon and pressing A - I did that with Pokemon Silver and Typhlosion!
Take on the gyms without counters. Don't dynamax. Etc etc. And if it's still 'too easy' well you're on a hacking forum for Gods sake...

I really wish they would have made a new game entirely. The fact that its just DLC, means that they really don't have too add or drastically change the Game/Engine in any way, adding in more features and content to the base game.

what I am worried about is if the DLC will be shared among the profiles in the same system. It will be bad if the game works for only one savefile (it was that way on the past, I know but this dont change the fact that it sucks)

My guy, why do you think Sword and Shield are so barebones compared to the 3DS games? If you want them to make a new engine (or a new iteration of their engine), that's time that they don't have to add more features and content into the game.

Like all of the Pokemon.

Given how profiles on the same system all have access to DLC purchased on one profile, it's almost certainly going to be accessible to multiple saves.

Indeed. There are people who unironically play these games just for the cute girls. People have all kinds of ways to squeeze some blood out of a stone.

In what way, though? For all the technical shortcomings and undercooked dev cycle, the game shines when it comes to new pokemon and location/character designs, so there is some soul behind it.
Lifeless, mostly-static models; the dumb Fossil designs (give me Rampardos, Kabutops, Cradily, Carracosta, and Tyrantrum any day over these mix-n-match abominations with bullshit Pokedex entries); Mega Evolutions looking far cooler and more impressive than any Gigantamax form.

Also they reused Hau's animations for Sw/Sh's rival, and the Wild Area just looks so N64.
