Your 3ds done crashed is what happened.
Yes, but why?
I feel like it might have something to do with the system, because sometimes when I open it up after a few days of having it on and not using it, it has a black screen and I have to hold down the power button for like a minute to turn it off. This first happened with Super Mario RPG, so I don't think it has anything to do with Cave Story.

Does it have anything to do with the CIA files?

I'm loooking to upgrade from my N2DSXL to a N3DSXL and have noticed a surplus of inexpensive Japanese 3DSes on Ebay
The problem is (obviously) that they are JPN region.
I'm planning to CFW my next 3DS, but I'm not sure if, once that's done, I can region change, format and system transfer from my NA N2DSXL.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes region change is completely safe and on Plailects guide (3ds.guide) is a guide to region change. Btw he transfert his guide to someone else. I don't know his name anymore. Edit: it's Ihaveahax
And also many other helpers and staff.

My 3DS storage is maxed out. I have CFW and TWiLight Menu installed and know that I can play .nds games off of the sd card without downloading them using FBI. Is it possible to play .3ds files or more importantly .cia files directly off of the flash card? Thanks.

Those flash cards can only use .nds. No one is going to recommend .3ds flashcards since they are useless. costs about 100 dollars and are a pain to even get working on the 3ds. The best solution is looking at a bigger sd card to use for your console.

I have a 64 gb sd card, but the actual internal storage on the 3ds is at max. Can I just play these directly from the SD card storage?

Is it a good idea to buy Stargate 3ds? It is around 30 euros and works without cfw (i have cfw so that soea not matter) because i find a lot of 3ds files but much less cias.
No, definitely not. You can convert 3ds files to cia files. You also cannot easily play online when using 3ds files.

O thanks. Then is there a way to play 3ds files without flashcard or cias?
Hmmhm. How about the Citra-emulator?

Converting 3DS files to CIA is not a big deal though.

CIA files of 3DS games always get installed to the SD storage.
Do you know where on the SD card? I can't find it, and my SD card file size I think is still the same. But what you are saying does make sense in a way, because I think the 3DS XL has 2GB of internal storage, but my CIAs that are installed are bigger then this...

You don't install 3DS games to the NAND storage. When you install a 3DS CIA file, you install it to the SD card in the /Nintendo 3DS/ folder. To manage your installed contents, go to the Data Management screen in the 3DS. Installed games should appear on the 3DS home menu.

Ahh yes, you are absolutely correct. I thought sysNAND took up a partition of the internal storage, and the CIAs were installed on the available space of the internal storage, but there is absolutely no space at all to fill it with a CIA. I do see my installed CIAs on my SD card by looking at System Settings -> Data Management on my 3DS. The CIAs get installed in the Nintendo 3DS folder of my SD card, but none of the file names in there use the friendly 3DS title names.
