hey, has anyone here used mcable? this gives me hope:

No not the Mcable but the Mclassic new product they have.
https://www.marseilleinc.com/mclassic/

But because the Wii2HDMI is not working, I don't have it anymore. It gives some sharp edges especially on the Wii U. It's an okay product but I was not like wow, I expected more to be honest.

Best option to get the best colors out of the Wii is a Wii to RGB (scart cable) and the otherside scart to hdmi.

I use this one here:
https://www.amazon.de/PORTHOLIC-Con...&keywords=wii+portholic&qid=1590952096&sr=8-3

The visuals are perfect.

The audio has a problem though, it crackles on high pitches.
The solution is using headphones (or a headplug with resistors ~20-40ohm) on the audio jack 3.5mm in the back. That lowers the audio and the sound is perfect if you just turn it up on the TV a bit.

I love it. Can only recommend. It absolutely humiliates component cables.

1) since you are saying wii2dhmi sound quality is crap how can you call it better than component cables? Plus I don't want to fumble with a headset when I play party games and so on...

2) it's technically impossible for wii2hdmi to have 'better' image quality than component cables. Unless you bought crapy third party component cables... Always get oem or hyperkin component cables.

So yeah all you are saying contradicts itself and is just untrue...

I have two of them, the first one has weird ////// interference lines while the second one is perfect. My TV instroduces lag when playing with the composite cable and it doesn't have component input for whatever reason so i'm very glad i got a Wii2HDMI that works very well.

The second one has a different shape that looks more refined/professional than those we see everywhere. I bought it on Wish and it took forever to arrive.

What are you talking about?
The HDMI Sound is perfect, its completely clean digital. I have component cables and the sound is pretty close, if you dont know the difference, you dont notice it.

Also the "problem" is that the HDMI outputs too high of a pitch. Which can be lowered by putting audio port into the jack of the HDMIadapter.
You dont need to listen via headphones, you just leave them in the jack.

I even build a small adapter for that to just leave it permanently. Its just a jack with 2x22ohm resistors. The same as any generic headphones.

I assume the guys from those HDMI2WII adapters had the idea to output always both hdmi and 3.5mm, so when one is not connected the other port gets to much power.
With this change the audio is really good and never crackles or overshoots or is muffled or anything.

Also about Image Quality. The HDMI is noticeably better than even ORIGINAL WII NINTENTO Component cables. I have those. Those are the gold standard for component cables for the WII. And the HDMI Image is better on a modern tv. The pixels are completely sharp.

My understanding is that the current versions of WII2HDMI Adapters use a form if the the GCVIDEO Mod.
Which reverses the Digital to Analog Conversion of the WII completely (I dont know how exactly it does it https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo).

It should be the best possible looking picture that the WII can ouput if its a good adapter with proper tech.

As far as I can say, the Portholic HDMI Adapter does work perfectly, so I assume its a proper implementation of the tech and the output is as close to 100% perfect Digital as possible. If not, I couldnt yet spot any difference.

There is ofcourse another even better MORE PERFECT version which is a Digital HDMI Mod like this.
https://www.retrorgb.com/wiidual.html

So you add a pcb to the Wii internally to get the digital signal before any conversion happens.
Thats probably the ultimate way to do it. That should be as good of a picture as the CPU of the WII is possible to generate.

But ofcourse its not a 12bucks mod. Also its not widely available.

I think the HDMI adapter is the best for any moderately modern TV.
If you are using a CRT, then the component is the best. Analog with anlog, digital with digital.

Yeah keep living in delusional world. What you are claiming is just impossible. The dongle can not be better then component cables. It can only be equal or worse...

Also make shift something to fix the audio on top of the dongle being needed. Yeah I don't call this quality at all...

I have tested several different Wii2HDMI adapters, and I highly recommend using the Sewell brand HDMI adapter. I have used one for the past 4 years and it still works great. The picture is clear, and the audio sounds great.

In my experience, the HDMI adapter actually can look better than component if you find the right one. Technically, if you capture the analog signal at the source, convert to HDMI, it has no cable length to degrade the analog signal, which results in a picture with less visual "noise" on the display. I have done comparisons between the two and noticed the HDMI adapter had a cleaner output than the component.

Some Wii2HDMI adapters are designed to internally upscale to 720/1080p, often do so very poorly; resulting in a very blurry picture and washed out colors. The Sewell HDMI adapter simply converts the 480p signal to HDMI, without internally upscaling to 720/1080p, and lets your TV do the upscaling as it usually does with component cables.

I've been doing some experimentation to try to figure out what causes the diagonal lines. I have confirmed that the speed at which they move across the screen varies with temperature by taking the case off the WII2HDMI and pointing a hot air gun at the board. I'm fairly sure that it's down to slight variations in the clock crystal frequency, affected by temperature.

Next step is to see if extra filtering/capacitors on the power supply lines makes any difference. FYI, it would seem that the board is powered by 5 volts from the Wii, not from HDMI.

The lines can be seen on the green areas of the attached photo.

Can you disassemble your Sewell unit and take a picture of the board?

In my defective unit, the vertical lines look more bold when playing in progressive mode than it does in interlaced. The speed of which the lines shift seemed to be random, but it might as well be caused by the temperature. I also noticed it has blown up levels of red, and both units i have show very bright whites too, but i heard the Wii's component output is of lower quality, but i don't know.

Here's a picture of the two models I have.

The one labelled 'bad' looks to be the same as mine. It uses a different chip which is clocked at a higher frequency - maybe that is why it doesn't suffer the same issue.

I don't really any issues with the image quality of this version of the board other than the diagonal lines.

That said, I've been doing some tinkering and have made some progress :)

By 'bending' the frequency of the crystal with a series capacitor, the lines are no longer stationary or moving, but moving fast enough not to be visible. As per the photo below, I put a 4.7pF in series with the crystal and can no longer see lines. This is all subject to further testing of course, and the lines could re-appear if the temperature inside the case changes enough.

Could you provide pics for a comparison?

Here's the difference in quality i mentioned. Also i should mention i have no audio problems with any of these two.

When you say comparison, do you mean before and after the 4.7pF capacitor mod? If yes, then before looks like the image in my previous post with the diagonal lines, and after looks like it should do, without any interference. Other than that, there are no visible differences between the images.

Regarding the two images you posted above, I see the interference lines on the left one but it also looks very different to the one on the right - a lot brighter. Is that how they appear in front of the screen?

Yep, as mentioned before, the bad one has very high levels of red and both appear to be a bit brighter than they should be(levels of white), but only in white screens like USB Loader and and the wii menu. The games look fine in the good unit. The pictures look exactly like what i see in person.

With the cap mod, the lines re-appeared today - not surprising given how sensitive the crystal oscillator is to the current blistering temperatures in the UK!

Where did you get the good one from and what brand is it labelled as?

Thanks

I bought it from Wish .com and it's unbranded. I went back to check and it's out of stock. The plastic casing had a different shape from the usual, if that helps.

I got one of the bad ones, very very very noisy picture with the diagonal lines and washed out overly bright image.
Brand on Amazon was listed as CHS, sold by Goodeliver.

I am 100% certain that most of the reviews on these are bought.

I'm now using cheap component cables and the OSSC, and the video quality i get from the wii2hdmi is pretty much on par to the 480p passthru option, the OSSC actually looks noisier because of the cheap cables. I wish there was an easier way to track down the good wii2hdmi units because they're a very good option in my experience.
