Xbox Series X will allow for higher framerates on backwards compatible games

4C83E892-DFE6-42E2-886E-F22BCAE9F459.jpeg

Microsoft has already promised that their Xbox Series X will support new games running at high resolutions, with above average refresh rates supported on the console. But older games will also benefit from the Series X’s power. Backwards compatible titles won’t just run via emulation or through included legacy hardware—they’ll be running natively on the system. Features that will be available for Xbox Series X titles, such as HDR, Quick Resume, and fast loading times will also apply to Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, allowing for better visuals and performance on next-gen hardware. Some games previously only playable at 30fps will even be unlocked to play at 60 or even 120fps. Through this, “thousands” of games, both new and old, will be playable on the Series X at launch.

This is what happens when you lead the market. You rest on your laurels and you don't feel the need to need to engage and innovate. This is why Microsoft's game pass is miles better than PS Now and Microsoft actually gives a shit about free local backwards compatibility

Totally agree Sony is like Apple since they lead the market the feel they don't need to go the extra mile. People drink the Koolaid and they think this is the best thing better and they overlook better things because of popularity. Xbox one is the most economical sysem out there you can buy a used one and a gamepass for under $200 and enjoy yourself with alot of games to play and all Xbox Exclusives in that gamepass. You cant say the same for PS4

This is awesome, I'm really looking forward to playing some of my older games at 60/120FPS if I get a Series X.

so instead of having actual new games at launch they are going to make you replay all your OLD games with slightly better FPS which you can do already ON THE PC :rofl2:

Didn't you make this post at the beginning of the thread as well? We get it, you don't like Xbox, now stop fishing for attention, it's embarassing.

Re: Exclusives.

Why do you want such things?

In an ideal world there would be none, or consoles would be more like DVD players where it does not matter so much if I bought a fancy brand from country X or a cheapo brand from country Y as they all play the same thing.
Pending that I would rather have game with a potentially larger sales pool, able to spunk more money on development, or take more risks with development.
Likewise back when we had consoles people generally enjoyed, indy games and whatever else was it the exclusives or just the third party content? I go look at the likes of the NES, SNES, Megadrive, PS1, 360, GBA, DS, Amiga... it was not Nintendo, Sony, MS or Commodore that made them as great as they were but the third parties coming in and making games for them.
In turn I look at the Saturn, N64, to some extents the gamecube (it got more third party and thus was not as big a flop as the N64 but at the same time it was not lead/primary platform for anything, indeed you will probably find stories of how impressive soul calibur was doing on the gamecube), the early years of the PS3, the 3DS after everybody buggered off and went ios and android towards the end of the DS, the time PC gaming apparently died (though as ever nobody actually told me and I was having a great time, it was however perceived/imagined that devs were not bringing their titles to the PC).

Furthermore how many of said exclusives were there that defined a generation for you? How much more time do you spend on multi platform titles?

If figure if you want exclusives you are a fanboy, or at least don't know what you actually want. See the old Henry Ford quote about faster horses.

If exclusives are good for anything it is for the console makers, not you as gamers/consumers of the paid content.

Re: Why when PC exists.
Presumably because having a fire and forget box under your TV with games nominally built to take advantage of the controller is an easy sell. If people are so distraught at having to wander over to another game shop to buy a game on the same PC imagine how much nicer it is if you can just have it done for you.
As the hacker inclined GBAtemp user I would agree entirely that cheap games, cheats, mods, superior graphics if not at the time then in a few years when you spring for some upgrades, multiplayer possibly for years (though console vs PC multiplayer lifetimes are an interesting one), nice controls, easy storage and on and on and on are great reasons to have a PC, however, and as ever, "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" is not only the name of one of my favourite albums but a truism. I don't like it, and my entire life revolves around me skimming from those that play that way, but it is what it is.

This is definitely poised to be the best handling of backwards compatability that we've ever seen from a console. And I say that as not much of an Xbox fan.
if they didnt make you download the entire game from their servers i would say yes, but like its on xbox one, they only read the disc id and then you need to download the whole modified game from xbox servers becuase they mod the games engine to emulate them and whatnot, meaning your discs are basicly a drm that you cant even install, no internet no Backwards compat at all.

ok now that's just retarded
I can kinda understand since the Xbox Series X definitely isnt going to be using the same architecture or hardware from the original xbox/360 but just read the disc itself instead of what the hell theyre doing
then again just get an original xbox if you want to play games on there, xbox emulation is a bitch anyways

How else could they have done it? Allowed us to just insert the disc and enjoy the game in its unaltered, pixelated glory? God no. I already have an Xbox filled to the brim with titles, and I still prefer to play it on my One because it looks so much better and cleaner due to their methods. I guess they could either allow you to just play the game as is, or allow you to download their version so you have a better experience.

i dont get you...

dvd/bluray players dont need to be programed for diferent OS like games have nor have diferent minimum requirements, i mean a dvd being one hour or 30 hours play at the same framerate at the same speed and same resolution.

games will never be able to be that way, you cant make a single file/disk that plays on console os,pc,linus, android, ios it just doesnt work that way, games arent just pre recorded media that only needs to be readed, they need to be running in real timer and take inputs and save date and are much more complex.

So no videogames will never be like dvds/blurays unless streaming takes over the entire industry and everything will just be stream, that way your dream can be a reallity, since no device is actualy running the games and just streaming them like videofiles, so you can cprobably play them on future smart tvs/phones/tablets/pcs and whatnot,it will be a dark day for most gamers but it seems you want something like that.

lol no they could make the console dump the file and patch it... or just run an emulator like you know all emulators work? you provide the original file iso/rom and the emulator does the patching and improvements on the code itself, you dont need to modify a game iso to make it look 10 times better on a pc emulator... the emulator just does that on the fly, look at dolphin it can make even wii games 4k, better textures, framerate, you name it as long as your pc is fast enough.

if they have the option of dump game iso from dvd as oposed as too having to download it from their servers it would be fine, they could do the patching on the console itself.

microsoft and sony can both go away until they can run 1440p native at 60-120fps. 1080p standard should be dead on game systems already. I mean, both can do 4K, so why not the beauty of 1440p for thjose of us with a 1440p monitor?

I mean, the origin big o exists, with all gaming consoles packed into one box ALONGSIDE a good gaming pc, the starting price is suprisingly cheap for something as outrageous as this (only 2000 dollars, the price of a high tier gaming PC)
unfortunately though, the consoles in the thing are PS4, Xbox one and Switch. no next gen here folks

that si basicaly just using several parts of several consoles and then emulating the rest... and no that isnt even close, it cant read physical media which means if you had a n64 cartridge or ps3 disc or evengamecube mine dvdn you had to buy extra hardware to either dump them or find illegal roms/isos online.

that is basicaly a glorified emulator, which plys current gens becuase they put parts of said consoles in there lol.

N64 emulation on PC is a thing, same for PS3. Again i stated the consoles in there are PS4, xbox one and switch

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

also, in unbox therapy's video there QUITE LITERALLY is a PS4 bios running on a monitor, which i assume is coming from the Big O
running games on that thing is no problem since you'll most likely be able to download from the playstation store

from what i saw they just have a real switch in there only the dock is modded through this pc and the visuals go through there and i know emulation is a thing, but the previous poster wanted games to become like dvds/bluray as a device you could insert any disc and play it like bluray players and not downloading illegal roms and emulate them. And as far as i could tell this big o cant read ps4 discs or xbone disc or even switch cartridges, it just reads whatever its on the SSD.

Also for 2500$ you can buy a switch, xbox one x and a ps4 pro and save yourself some game money lol.

Ehh, most of the price comes from the fact there's also a midtier gaming PC in there. You could buy a PS4 and Switch model (xbox exclusives are all on switch and PC) for their exclusives, and reap the rewards of having the best multiplats (on PC) so the inflated price is pretty damn justified ^_^

if you havent reade
https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/origin-pc-big-o-hands-on-review-features-pricing-specs/

can only fit one console at a time, the switch isnt inside you need to buy one too, cant support xbox one x becuase they dont work without optical drive, cant read physical media of any console and so on, this is basicaly an experience where they canibalize console parts like ps4 and xbox one s matherboards and whatnot and put them inside the pc, so no its not that great, also there is no improvement on the console games from what he saw, their resolutions and fps are the same because they have stripped down console parts inside lol. so they run basicaly on original hardware with afew changes here and there, so the only convenience is what? one box instead of 2? becuase you dont get that much improvement on console games at all and even loose funcionalitys of the consoles.

2500 for gaming pc+ ps4 pro parts or
2500 for gaming pc with xbox one s inside
you can buy a 2000 gaming pc and a separated ps4 pro or xbox one x really, i fail to see what is worth it here.

Also Xbox one not working is none of my concern, as stated before all one exclusives are on PC with better graphics
The 2 things that really bum me out is the fact that the switch isn't in there, but if it were nintendo would lose sales since it's the newest of the 3, and the fact console performance isnt improved.

you fail to realize the ps4 bios is there becuase their is ps4 harware inside lol, ps4 isnt being runned through magic, but their own prts, if you open a ps4 take out the cpu, gpu, mother board put it inside a pc box alongside your own pc and put a switch on the pc box to ttogle between ps4 mode and pc mode is that really magic? or your just hidding the parts inside a bigger box and displaying them on the same monitor? lol

like i said there is no diferentce of owning a ps4 pro and using the ps4 parts inside this pc and you dont even ssave money becuase each big one only has either a ps4 or xbox mode it doesnt have both. and for 2500 you can build a preety decent gaming pc and buy a ps4 pro lol so again what is the point of hidding the parts of the ps4 inside the same box and just share the usb ports/power and monitor cable and have a toogle switch on the front to starts ps4 parts or strarts the pc parts...

There are a billion different video formats, codecs, containers and sub divisions of all of those.

However for DVD players a group of companies (electronics, video, film studios, optical disc makers....) got together, said why not use these things for the next few years, they all said yes.

Sony and Microsoft are part of many working groups that do the same for everything from HDMI to directX, would be nothing for them to do it here either (this CPU, this much memory, this GPU design, this hard drive, this baseline number of buttons on a controller, this underlying OS speaking these APIs...) and allow other people to make them under license or open (I would prefer open as per older computers but I am at least somewhat realistic on that one).

At that point if someone wants to pay for a console that also has a TV decoder in it then they can, if someone wants to pay for one with a fancy 5.1 audio amp in it then they can, if I just want a basic plug it in and chuck in a controller then I can too. No worries about buying the wrong console and missing out on a game/series/DLC, no timed exclusive nonsense, no devs having to worry about porting something between multiple different consoles that have subtly different limitations and then later a PC and making it all look vaguely the same, no worries about having to have multiple subscriptions (unless of course I want them), no having to find extra wires/ports on my TV, no worrying about having to charge a whole different set of controllers (granted I use wires).
What an absolutely horrible world that would be.
