SEGA will be giving Sonic games longer development cycles to hopefully result in better games

sonic-forces.jpg

SEGA of America hosted a special livestream recently, the first Sonic Official stream of this year, where some of their team discussed Sonic-related news. Aaron Webber was there to answer questions from fans in the chat, with one of the most popular ones being why it's been so long since there was a new Sonic game announcement or reveal trailer. Webber's response was that SEGA used to release Sonic titles on a yearly basis, but the company decided that they no longer wanted to rush games out, and made the choice to give each game a longer development cycle. He also says that the team is incredibly excited about what's in store, but they can't say anything more at this time. The last time a mainline 3D console Sonic the Hedgehog game released was Sonic Forces, back in 2017.

Lmao do you know that the people who made SMO and Zelda BoTW were with Sonic Team back in 2010/2008, they are the same who made Generation and Unleashed.

Even Epic Games are better than Nintendo at this point.
Ok, what did they develop with in those games?
The difference is Nintendo wont let you produce shit. If there not any good i dont think Nintendo would hire them, or let them be any part of the development process. Besides, they are probably better programers now then back with sega. If the higher ups at sega dont know what a quality sonic game is, then its not totally the programers faults.

There is no way u can say SMO and Zelda are not quality titles.

3 years for the graphic engine (Hedgehog Engine 2), 1 year for the actual game.
So yeah you better shut up at this point.

This. I don't care what/where he's working now - give him the character, tell him we want Mania 2 ...and fukk everything else. Mania aside, Generations was ALMOST good, and the All-Stars Racing don't count: the only really great Sonic game since CD was NiGHTS. Sonic is not a platform game, it's a high-score-beating, 2D side on racing game. Trying to make it a Mario game doesn't work, and never will..
uhh Nights isnt a sonic game

Dude if you went to any other news thread it becomes very obvious that most of the people here hate nintendo outside of their games and easily hacked consoles

Most of it is people calling for compensation from the once great or never great Nintendo, with a few "I have had no problems" here and there, not exactly Nintendo shills, in my opinion.

Could use a tad more more speed, but otherwise it's got the speed and momentum - we're trying to step away from the "just GO GO GO YOU ARE SO FAST YOU CAN'T EVEN TELL WHAT'S COMING UP" mentality the recent games are familiar with and don't make the game fun to do anything other than hold forward and press jump occasionally.

In terms of exploring, there's not much incentive to explore on that because it's a concept demo. If it evolved into a full fledged game, there would be more to the levels, with secrets and other rewards put in several places in the level (see: SRB2).
yeah i understand, what i think is, make a more linear thing with that sonic utopia engine, if you don't have any reason to explore, also, sega only made this boost gameplay because of sonic rush's success, but sonic rush is 2D

...Who? No, seriously, who?
This guy hasn't been relevant since the 90s. From what I've heard, this blue freak was meant to be a "cooler" version of Mario, except...what was "cool" in the 1990s is radically different from what's "cool" in the 2010s, let alone 2020.

I loved my DS and 3DS and Wii U. Three of my favourite consoles, there.
They did fuck up with the Wii (dysfunctional motion control gimmick, with no mandatory Classic Controller backup) and the Switch (JoyCons, Switch Online paywall, no Virtual Console, Pokemon was all but murdered, only one real Legend of Zelda game, eShop is full of shovelware), but they used to be utterly fantastic.

They do still make some great games, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, Kirby Star Allies, and Link's Awakening, but nowhere near as many as they did previously.

Doesnt the kirby community consider Star Allies Mediocre/decent?
Also, Link's Awakening doesn't count since it's literally a remake

I don't care about "the Kirby community"; in my book, it's a great game.
As for Link's Awakening, a remake can still be a great game. Granted, I too would have preferred a brand-new traditional game (none of that awful survival open-world nonsense with anti-fun mechanics, such as stamina and gear fragility), but this is a fantastic remake of an already-wonderful Game Boy Colour game.

I would also like to see Oracle of Ages/Seasons remade; they were far ahead of their time, and severely hampered by being GBC games. Link's Awakening at least had simplicity, so it managed to work on the GBC - or, rather, the Virtual Console on 3DS - but OoA/S are far more complex, and thus suffer.

Kirby star allies would be cool except that i have a switch lite so the game's multiplayer feature is totally lost on me.
Link's awakening is kinda special since it's the first physical game (and the only physical game, digital all day every day) i got for switch
Also BOTW hater #60095 hating the game for the same exact reasons most detractors do
Like jesus, is the durability and stamina problems that big of an issue? I must be able to take more bullshit than most other gamers can- after all i love the classic sonic games despite them being pretty flawed, I'm able to take on any megaman X game after X4 and have a good time (except X6, i havent played x7 yet) and i perfer digital over physical (but i don't support streaming)

I don't know about Jesus, or any other nonexistent holy figures with no actual historical backing, but fragility and stamina are big issues. They handicap the player, hindering progress for no good reason. Assassin's Creed Origins didn't have either mechanic, but still had multiple different types of weapons - and guess what? It was fun. I had fun fighting enemies in that open-world game, and I had fun running and climbing all about without needing to wait for an arbitrary gauge to refill.
Skyrim didn't have fragility either, though it did have stamina; so while trying to explore wasn't as enjoyable as in AC: O above, actual combat was decent.
From memory, The Witcher 3 didn't have either mechanic either, and that's a great game.

They're all open-world games, and all much better open-world games.

As for Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask both had breakable swords - the Giant's Knife and the Razor Sword, both of which break after exactly 100 strikes. Both are completely optional upgrades to the Master Sword and Kokiri Sword, and both can be replaced by unbreakable swords, if the player so wishes - the Biggoron's Sword and the Gilded Sword (along with the Great Fairy's Sword, for the latter).
That was a good system; if one wanted to purposefully gimp themselves, they could get the fragile blades. If one wanted to actually have fun and focus on exploring Hyrule/Termina and spelunking in dungeons, they could just get the unbreakable upgrades - or just stick with the base weapons - and not care about how many Keese or other weak foes they slaughter whilst exploring.

I still don't feel that the swords breaking are that big of a deal- you can always get more inventory slots by collecting korok seeds spread across the map. Hell, once you get the Master sword it permanently stays in your inventory and never leaves. Maybe it's because i go to different places in the game than you do, but generally i find a lot of powerful swords in side quests and the main quest- they're pretty unlimited. for bows and arrows though... yeaaah they're more of a bitch to come across. as for stamina... just go to the shrines lmao, getting spirit orbs is easy. You're encouraged to go to the shrines and get as many spirit orbs as you can. even if you don't have time to go visit one, just hit one up and activate the teleporter there- that way you won't have any problems returning if you wanted to get more spirit orbs. If you're feeling lazy you could always hit the statue close to hateno village up and swap hearts for stamina and vice versa. that's what i did when i wanted to get the master sword, and afterwards i just immediately switched back to less hearts and more stamina. Really the only problem i had with the game was climbing up walls and traveling was incredibly slow, but ay there's revali's gale to help you across many annoying places, and the horses exist alongside the teleportation system, which is also another incentive to get to shrines- they could be used as good teleportation devices across the map. plus once you enter a town like hateno village or kakariko village there's a shrine nearby that you can use whenever you need to get there asap.
Also youre an atheist, noice. I'm agnostic myself

Also i don't like the concept of having lots of swords with no durability either- take symphony of the night for example. You get dozens upon dozens of swords in that game, but they're all useless since you probably have another OP sword laying in your inventory that immediately kills everything that it touches (cough cough crissaegrim cough alucard shield and shield rod, cough cough) I guess it makes sense since unlike BOTW, swords are more special than anything, and arent just repeatedly found across the overworld, but if these swords broke then you'd have more of an incentive to try using the other useless swords in your inventory- plus to improve upon this, you could have a guy to help repair your sword, say something like a goron or whatever- that way your sword isnt lost to time permanently like they are in BOTW. They did fix this in later castlevania metroidvanias by making the swords more varied and situational, but even then there's still that one op sword in your inventory that's good for most situations.

Honestly, the Orbs - found in countless Shrines with the exact same wallpaper and aesthetic design, meaning they get visually unstimulating very quickly - should have given both Hearts and stamina. Enemies already deal more damage than they did in proper Legend of Zelda games, after all, and stamina just shouldn't be in there anyway.

Oh, and the Master Sword? Unlike the last times it was left exposed to the elements for untold years (Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds), it is now damaged, somehow, and thus has its own fragility. Unlike every other weapon, this one can regenerate, but still - the Master Sword shouldn't be fragile.
Skyward Sword was "kind" enough to have an unbreakable shield - the Hylian Shield, of course - after going through a lategame gauntlet of bosses; why could Breath of the Wild have its own unbreakable sword and shield?

Let's be real here dude, i don't think nintendo could come up with good visual designs for all 120 shrines located in the game.
Also deciding between Hearts and stamina presents a good question of whether you want to get more hearts for later on in the game (specifically if there's more enemies up ahead), or if you want to get more stamina for more steep areas up ahead. Also, again it's already established that you can swap hearts for stamina- so it's really not that big of a problem in my eyes. Getting rupees in the in order to swap hearts and stamina in the game is easy too- you get hundreds upon hundreds of useless bullshit in the game such as monster guts and whatnot, and while they are good for elixrs, there is food that does exist for those same stamina effects. you could sell all this stuff you found along the journey in order to get buttloads of rupees. Also the assholes from the yiga clan drop them when you kill them as well.
Also i like the fact that enemies deal more damage. Zelda games were never really that hard anyways if we're excluding zelda 2 on NES. Hell, i beat the game with crappy armor that didn't let me take more than 2 hits- it was satisfying to kill every boss without getting hit once.

I wasn't looking for unique aesthetics for ALL Shrines; just maybe give each group of ten a different coat of paint? A different colour, at least.
Anywhere between ten and twenty in each group, maybe. I dunno. Just don't give them all the exact same colour and patterns; gets dull fast.

And being able to swap Hearts and stamina isn't a satisfying fix, in my eyes, since you'll be lacking one or the other each way. No, giving both to the player is much better; they should be feeling powerful, ready to handle whatever challenges may be thrown their way, by the game's end - not feeling fragile from having too few Hearts, or unable to climb or swim or glide as long due to having a short stamina gauge.
