EA's upcoming games will offer a free upgrade to run on next-gen hardware
With the month of May having just arrived, quarterly financial briefings are ringing out across the gaming industry. One such company is Electronic Arts, which has just published its Q4 results. During the earnings call involving those financial results, EA's COO--Blake Jorgensen--told shareholders that "this year the phasing includes the effect of revenue recognition from the games we are launching for the current generation of consoles that can also be upgraded for free for the next generation."
That statement implies that EA will be offering, much like other game publishers such as CD Projekt Red, free upgrades to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of their upcoming 2020 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games lineup. We know for certain that Xbox titles will offer this ability, through Microsoft's Smart Delivery feature, but whether or not this will also be available on the PlayStation 5 is another question that has yet to be answered.
