I use Haxchi to launch DLC content, my Wii U is on FW version 5.5.1 and I would like to update to latest version 5.5.4.
If I update will it kill Haxchi, will I have to reinstall it?

Looks like this has been asked, and the answer is yes I can update however I will have to reinstall Haxchi.
I haven't touched my Wii U in 2.5 years, hence the question.
Is this correct, is there a way to update the system via SD or Flash Drive through Home Brew?

If you have normal haxchi, you don't need to reinstall it.
If you have coldboot haxchi, yes, you will have to reinstall it.
There is NO homebrew to update the system.
Also, there is NO problem in updating... and there is NO benefit in updating too!

so why do you want to update the console anyway?,you can play all the games online and none of them requires to update your console

Why not if it doesn't hurt anything?
Might as well be on the latest.
I think the update is better for two reasons:
1) with 5.5.4 or 5.5.3 in Usa, you get able to access to the eshop without a patch, that allows to update the games that you install with Wup Installer too.
2) In case that you want Coldboot Haxchi for not needing the gamepad eevery time you wanna play and run haxchi, then it´s better to install Haxchi, then update, and finally install the Coldboot.

So im in the same situation and wil take the above advice.
But I was wondering, is it safe to update the games online aswel after I start them after running haxchi, or should I use the wii usb helper for that instead?

I'm in the same boat here!

Untouched Wii U USA on 5.5.1

Is there any advantage /benefit for staying there/not updating to latest version?

I have an original disc of BotW and would like to update it (not sure if I need to update console as well).

I'm planning to hack the system in a near future to play homebrew and use Nintendont

Thanks in advance
Cheers!

You can update to the latest version.
No problem at all.
And no benefit for staying on 5.5.1

Also, benefit for being on latest firmware is that you can access the eShop if you want to browse or ummmm buy stuff :)
As others stated, if using Coldboot, best to remove it, update, then reinstall, but for those on normal Haxchi, you can update firmware and your Haxchi will still be intact, My last 3 firmware updates I had haxchi installed, no issues here.

EDIT:
For EUR region, installing to the latest firmware with Coldboox haxchi install will break it, just need to reinstall Coldboot haxchi and you be up and running again. Does not affect USA region console.

Only if you're using a EUR console. I never had to reinstall and I am using USA. I confirmed this in other threads.

This is laborious. It is enough to install (if a newer version from cbhc comes out) it over the older version.

Not sure if we are on the same page or not, but as @OrGoN3 stated (which I forgot since I don't use coldboot) EUR region console will need to have coldboot haxchi uninstalled, update firmware and re install coldboot to get it working again. This does not affect USA region consoles, that is one reason why I choose not to use Coldboot, I doubt there will be any more stabliity firmware coming out for a pretty much dead console.

EDIT:
No need to uninstall Coldboot haxchi, just reinstall will be fine.

Nope. Updating the firmware then reinstall cbhc is enough. I live in the eu and know what i'm talking about. There is no need to uninstall it. And by the way is there never a reason to update immediately.

Thank you all for your answers! I'm going to almost sure update but since there's no turning back, just wanted to be 101% sure ;-)

In case i want to use the web exploit after every reboot instead of installing haxchi, it still works fine on 5.5.3?

As far as I understand, once the custom firmware is loaded, there is absolutely no difference if I'm on 5.5.1 or 5.5.3 for, let's say... vWii, Nintendont, installing custom WADs on vWii, USB Loader GX, etc.... am I right?

I apologize if I'm asking extremely obvious questions but better to be sure sooner than later.

Thanks againd in advance, wish you all a good weekend ahead
