Just thinking about that still. I still can’t see how that could reach that far but you got it done and it works and you repurposed a hard drive from an Xbox to do it. [emoji2956]

DinohScene posted this about the 2 cables in another thread;

DinohScene said:
There's a small one for if you want to use the USB port at the back (on phatties) and a long one for if you want to use one of the front USBs (phat and Slim)

So I thought it was common knowledge.

I am completely stupid. I always thought the long cable was for if you couldn't get the short one to fit in the back, because of complications of closing everything back up. Wow. That is insane.

Xkey can be mounted on the front and on the back, the longer flat cable is for the front, smaller for the back yep.

Wouldn't make much sense for suppliers to supply a long and short cable if it's intended for back usage only haha.

I see there is a field in the configuration file for drive timeout. I am having the opposite issue, the drive won't spin down when the unit is powered off. USB drives stay powered as well. Is this normal?

I thought the long one was just for slims, but that’s cool to know.

Hi;
Need Help BADLY with my old Xbox 360 and Xkey... We had an external hard drive attached to the xkey and it crapped out so I went out and purchased a new powered Seagate Hard Drive.... I formatted it to NTFS, added a file labeled "games" and the xkey config file...... I have attached the hard drive back to the xkey and now the "mixed media" screen is not even showing....
Any help would be greatly appreciated; Old man trying to get my kids system working; Unfortunately, he is learning challenged and most of the games we had on the old drive were for his development.....If anyone can help it would be a GOD send..

It has to be less than 2TB in size I believe. Folder named "games" in all lower case in the root of the drive and the cfg file in the root. I have my firmware.bin in there too on my HDD but I don't believe that's necessary. Should work.

If you have a lot of games on there it will take a while before everything is loaded in.
That being said, idk if there's a actual limit on the amount of HDDs or size, I know people had USB hubs with 3 or 4 different drives attached.

Formatting it to EXT4 should speed up game loading, I heard.
Other then that, what djinc said.

I have 200 games on this so far. It’s a seagate 8TB Drive. It works. Make sure the ribbon is connected well, I had that issue with mine not detecting the drive. Also, as Dinohscene said more content takes more time. Once I had my drive and ribbon straight I left it on, ejected the simulated drive and walked away and came back 20-40 minutes later and it loaded up and played fine. I tried the method of formatting to what Dinoh said and it didn’t work for me at all so I went back to the original format and it worked. Once you get all the games to load, the next time won’t take nearly as long. A few seconds as I recall.
Edit:
Quick update, daughter dropped my drive and so I had to replace it. I ripped over 40 games in two days and got other stuff. Connected and it took literally less than ten seconds to show mixed media disc.

The entire 6TB partition is visible to the Xkey?
Forgive me for sounding dumb but I run everything off off a 128 GB USB and I only heard of 2TB drives being connected to it ;p

Well, I thought it was able to handle 2TB x 2. I tried other drives. This was what worked, all of the other drives I tried wouldn’t. I think it would probably only recognize 2TB.

@djink91 I just took my box apart to replace the cable and I had forgotten just how long it was. I don’t remember it being that long. Lol

Not every drive is going to work. I had to try a few. Now, as I recall, the short cable is, for my preference, too short but boots up quicker, it seems. If the board was set up with the ribbon coming from the other end it would have been easier to make the shorty work but I but I got it happening perfectly and the drive took over ten minutes to recognize the games on the first attempt and then after that less than 3 seconds every time after that.
I bought that drive at Costco on sale and it was pretty cheap. I had several drives that I could have used but non worked.
Also, I am still struggling to get xbox backup creator to work. I have the flashed 800 drive recognized on the program but still... any of you guys recently have done it can share the steps? I followed the tutorial but it didn't work. Maybe there is something missing. How are you guys all doing with this extended indoor vacation?

So far I have been lucky, every USB stick and HDD I have tried has worked. Even with the long cable my xk3y picks up the drive with just under 100 games quite fast, it is formatted to ext4.

What drive do you have? Samsung and old Hitachi wont read XGD3 games. Mine is Liteon and settings are as follows;

Keep in mind, processing the AP25 data takes a while but all my discs have been successful since selecting that and add filler to video.

No vacation for me, I have been working 6 days a week for sometime now.

Yeah, every time I tried to format to ext4 my xbox or drive didn't like it. I finally got the XBC to work. I had to reinstall the drivers for my x360 and a switch was set to update, once I turned that to off, it all fell in to place. Ripping Deadpool now. Next step, I guess, is to run it through ABG to patch it. I will make another game list of what I have currently. I will post you when it's finished.

I had no idea I could play original Xbox titles through xK3y! I ripped my Fable disk and other than being 4:3 it plays like any other game!

That's cool. I assume it is just the games that are backward compatible.
I wonder if I could grab the games I have downloaded from xbox gold to save on the drive or if it even works that way.

In terms of hard drives and file systems with the xKey, I'll add that the following also works on both my PHAT and SLIM installations:

HDD: 3TB (WD MyBook, model: WDBBGB0030HBK)
Partitions: One(1) - 3TB
Scheme: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
Filesystem: exFAT

xKey Firmware: 02.01-4

Works great and detects games quickly, using about 1.7TB of space on the drive. As long as your xkey is on firmware higher than 01.28 - then you should be able to use drives and partitions larger than 2TB.
