Hacking Question Is it safe to change the build number with Tinfoil?

Hello lovely community of GBAtemp,

So, some time ago, I downloaded an official update for a game (I dont't remember which) and I didn't think much of it. Later, when booting up the SYSNAND and starting an online game, a message popped up saying that my console cannot be used for online services (or something like that).

So, I was wondering, if I could change the build number from Tinfoil. I mean, is it safe to do that, will that unban my switch?

at this time, you can't unban your console with any public methods (never know what's going on in private)
if there was a way we'd all know about it and it'd be all over the place.

What purpose does changing the build number serve then?

Tinfoil cannot change your console unique cert, it can only blank it or restore it.

If you are talking about Serial Number change, it's just a visual change to make it cool, you could leave your SN as "NINTENDOBANNEDTHIS"

Every console has a unique id same with the ps4/one and you can't really change that unless there's an app that can spoof your id or by hardware means.
