Alrighty, is it possible to add gamecube compatibility to a wii family edition?
Is it possible to make the wii family edition read gamecube disks (instead of spitting them out) AND add gamecube ports for controllers and memory cards?
If so, is there a guide that I can find on the internet? Do I have to use parts from a 1st gen wii?
(UPDATE) I think i found something

Buy a GameCube to USB adaptor (like those sold for Smash 4)
Install the Homebrew channel
Launch Nintendont

Done :)

Yes they actually work on a Wii (if using Nintendont)

I have tried the above on my own wii

ok, but does nintendont let you use gamecube disks?
No

Honestly it's gonna be easier in every way to not use your real disks

Idk about other solutions

Please forgive me my Ignorance and my Lack of Wii Hardware Knowledge.
I am pretty sure I missed something (sorry,I had to force myself to "watch" these well made Videos a second Time,to believe it...).
This great Hardware Magician changed the Inner Life from an White Wii with GameCube Connectors with the Inner Life from the Blue Wii without GameCube Connectors ? Is this really happend ?

Please can someone be so kind, with more Knowledge then myself, and confirm my Observations ?
I still can not believe it.I thought such Miracles are not possible.I am deeply Impressed...and speechless.....

Thank you.:)

Haven't properly delved into it since the earlier proof of concept days but if Nintendo looked out, decided nobody cared about gamecube, figured they could replace a complicated port section with a piece of plastic and just not solder something in, leave the original PCB as is (no particularly complicated redesign issues with noise or anything, maybe a quick go around for the couple of countries that require government testing), and disable support for small discs in software all to save a few pennies (or possibly not have to do a new batch of said ports if they were running out -- plastics and electrical contacts tooling is not the cheapest hobby and have a lifetime) it is not so miraculous that someone filled an unpopulated board segment, poked out the plastic plate and undid a software lock on an entirely hacked system.

All that said you can buy a wii for nothing these days so I don't know if I would go to the effort of doing it.

What would I do without you,my Friend.:D
Now I can go to Bed and sleep in Peace.
Thank you.:)

Do you have some special fondness for Wii family edition? If you have to cannibalize a good wii to make your family edition run GC disks (and only in horizontal configuration) doesn't that seem a bit much?

Sure, you can easily buy a vertical Wii, but can you say "I assembled this myself"? :)
An horizontal Wii is also guaranteed to have the new, more power efficient, processors :P
And just like you can use an RVL horizontally you can use an RVK vertically, sure they look stupid but work just fine :)

Why wouldn't they? Its USB. The magic is done with Nintendont's drivers. B-)

Now as to why would you destroy a white Wii (unless is completely dead) to adapt the ports to another Wii that was purposefully stripped of those, is kinda extreme.

No, Gamecube disks will NOT work just because of Nintendont. The drive inside a Family Wii does not have the necessary mechanism to hold and use a Mini DVD. Now, if you are really into doing that weird mod, perhaps you might be interested to know that the original Wii drive, the one that does have physical compatibility with GCN and Wii, is totally swappable with the non-compatible one.
