Retro-Bit shows off its "improved" take on a Dreamcast controller, set for release this year

After having partnered up with SEGA to release USB Genesis/Mega Drive controllers last year, Retro-Bit is ready to take on another classic SEGA gamepad. This time, they're tackling the Sega Dreamcast controller, in an attempt to create an official "improved" version for players to best enjoy their favorite Dreamcast titles. The controller will have wired and wireless options, will feature a brand new redesigned dpad, more ergonomic triggers, and six face buttons. Currently, Retro-Bit doesn't have a solid release date, but the controller is planned to be available for purchase by the end of this year.

Doesn't look as comfortable as the ones by Retro Fighters. Where's that dual analog Saturn controller with two shoulder buttons, btw!? It sounds like my controller endgame on PC!

It's almost like it was based on an already shitty controller design...

That's one too. Yucky!

As someone with a Dreamcast still hooked up, these are much-needed improvements. Both the stick and D-pad on the original controller are kinda garbage by modern standards. Frankly they weren't even very good when the console first released, but neither was the majority what their competition was producing, so it was a little more forgivable back then.

it really confuses the hell out of me that people dont like additional buttons and improved features. like, if you want the exact same controller then just buy the originals which have been readily available for the last 20 years. theres a bunch of fighting games that will benefit from the extra buttons and better d-pad. hopefully these come in black.

The worst thing about the Dreamcast controller was the cable coming out the bottom. Dafuq.

At least it broke down way less that the Nintendo 64 Controller stick.

Some controllers, like the PS2 controller and the Gamecube controller, just work really well.
Unfortunately the Dreamcast controller was only slightly better that the crap Nintendo 64 controller.

Sure, but I'd rather use the Retro Fighters controller. And if I wanted a 6 button controller, I'd love to buy that Sega Saturn one with the dual analogs from Retro-Bit, but nope, haven't heard a peep from them at all about that ever coming out!

I may be the odd one here, but if you're going to change shiz at least give it all the modern button and bbth sticks.
I'd probably buy one if it were functional beyond the Dreamcast collection.

That'd require a USB cable at least. Who knows, you might want a wireless BT setup or some dongle in addition to that, all of which costs more

Funny, but kinda wrongish. ;p
They're already wireless and wired so no money there, they added two extra buttons that could've been used as shoulder bottons so no money there. You are right that adding a extra joystick would cost a penny per every five hundred to a thousand made. You got me there. =]

I dont know how I feel about this... I may be the odd one here but I liked the Dreamcast controller, if they made it USB and had updated it with an extra analog stick, 4 shoulder buttons, etc to make it compatible with most modern games I'd consider getting one as a primary controller. But I already have plenty of OG Dreamcast controllers, why would I want another one?
