Retro-Bit shows off its "improved" take on a Dreamcast controller, set for release this year

After having partnered up with SEGA to release USB Genesis/Mega Drive controllers last year, Retro-Bit is ready to take on another classic SEGA gamepad. This time, they're tackling the Sega Dreamcast controller, in an attempt to create an official "improved" version for players to best enjoy their favorite Dreamcast titles. The controller will have wired and wireless options, will feature a brand new redesigned dpad, more ergonomic triggers, and six face buttons. Currently, Retro-Bit doesn't have a solid release date, but the controller is planned to be available for purchase by the end of this year.

Is it two knives pointed either way with some cheap clone product remote control buttons on top? No, then it is an improvement on the Dreamcast controller.

i may be missing something here, but why 6 buttons? they seem like they'd have a lack of use in most cases
I can see the point for Street Fighter et al myself, but then why not go the whole hog and swap the d-pad with the analogue stick too? Otherwise, agreed with most - the Dreamcast pad was never one that companies tried to copy very much, and for good reason...

yeah they could just change the design like recent n64 controllers nowadays that have everything but more like a strreamlined controller

the same company as this one literally made a dreamcast controller with the same style and from what I've heard it far exceeds the original and the competition

Because of the Sega Saturn controller. Also I don’t know of anything outside of racing games that used the pressure sensitivity feature of the triggers, so they were just annoying in most cases (having to squeeze the trigger all the way every 3 seconds in JSR just to keep boosting)

Sega should have put more effort in the Dreamcast. Great, underrated system with a controller that could have been better. Not sure why they're adding 2 more buttons short of fighting games, but even then... Is it really necessary?

Uhh obviously because 6 is more that 4 and more is better because of more power and if you divide 4 by 2 you only get 2 but if you divide 6 by 2 you get three and how many side are in a triangle? 3 Illuminati confirmed!

I actually really liked the Dreamcast controller as a kid. It did everything it needed to do - and it felt super good in the hands.

Before the Dreamcast the only controllers I had held were original N64 and PS1 controllers - which I think in many regards it was an improvement over those.

Now of course it doesn't stack up to modern controllers at all - but that's not how you should judge retro tech.

And we've already got an improved Dreamcast controller in the Xbox Duke - if you guys didn't know, the Xbox was originally supposed to be the successor to the Sega line of consoles and backwards compatibility was even considered for a time.

Doesn't look as comfortable as the ones by Retro Fighters. Where's that dual analog Saturn controller with two shoulder buttons, btw!? It sounds like my controller endgame on PC!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I dont liked Dreamcast controller when I saw Sega Dreamcast first released. Very ugly controller and terrible games.

It's almost like it was based on an already shitty controller design...
