Hi Guys

I'm considering selling my switch whilst the current price is high, and may buy it back in the future, I was wondering are people working on patched switches and do you think future new switches can install custom firmware?

was there a situation in the past where only certain switches could be modded and now more can be?

i read this in the FAQ

'If your switch is patched and on 4.1 or below you can use Pegascape. If it's on 5.0.0-7.1.0 You will need to wait. If it's on 8.0.0 or higher your SOL'

why are 8.0.0 and patched SOL? is it impossible?

basically wondering if new switches will always be impossible to install custom firmware

thank you

possible, yes! when? we don't know.
sometime, old consoles get a new exploit 10 years after they are popular... like DSi, or the Wii.
it only depend whether someone, one day, randomly finds a new vulnerability and create an app to exploit it.
you never know when or what will happen. you can't expect it to be available for when you'll want to buy a new console. it could never happen, it could happen in 20 years.

Remember, all systems and portable are hackable but some jailbreak quicker and some get very long time to jailbreak. Againn, all are hackable no matter what.

If you ant to sell it and get it back in the future since jailbreak will available to you will also be higher costly. I suggest you keep it for the future. Unless Nintendo release brand new system that allow you to play Switch games then you can. It is up to you and only you can decide for yourself. I will keep it if I were you no matter what for how long. I have PS4 on 5.05 for over 3 or 4 years and I wont sell it. It will be hackable higher than 5.05. Rumor about 6.20 and one day 7.02! :)

Thing is, Nintendo has worked a lot to avoid any use of system or user content on the Switch. We can't even transfer savedata from microSD. I feel like the only way to generate an exploit would be from changing the DNS and having a webexploit, or maybe injecting a specific code on a screenshot from the album... The TX will be the savior of Patched/Mariko/Lite users.

When I use my Switch in sysNand, I really feel like Nintendo's policy is to never go back to a fully-featured system like the Wii, the WiiU and the 3DS had. We had a browser, custom apps, themes, photos, sound recorder, chat apps etc. :(

Selling your "now vulnerable" switch is a very insensitive idea.
There is never a gurantee that future revisions will be hackable soon, or at all.

Take the PS4 for example.
Many people must be biting themselves for updating to a newer firmware beyond 5.05.
Only now is a new 6.20 exploit *maybe on the rise*... That being almost like what 5 years later ?

As for the switch:
The only ones currently working on a way to launch anything (speak: their own cfw) on the switch patched models are team
excuter.
And even that is not sure.

Bottomline TL;DR:
You have a Switch and it is vulnerable ? (RCM)
You might be interested in using it for backing up/homebrews in the future ?
=> Don't. sell. it. (TegraRCM vulnerability is a hackers wet dream. U-N-P-A-T-C-H-A-B-L-E.. )

(If switches stay unhackable => great choice made)
(If switches become hacked down the line => no gurantee the "new hack" won't be way expensive *cough* gateway 3ds *cough*

And you are obviously right:
No save transfer aside from the arbitrary "online service:20$/year" don't exist.
(Even the Wii/U could do that...)

Even if you can hack future revisions, suppose it's out of stock for a long time because people are buying it up.

What if you sell now and the price keeps going up? You might have to buy another for double what you paid. Who knows how much the TX modchip will cost, and who knows how easy it will be to install. We might have to solder into itty bitty micro points.

Why are people saying the TX modchips might not happen? Has nobody got their test units yet? What about the modded switch lite video that was posted? Could that switch lite have been playing a video captured from an RCM exploitable console using SX OS uploaded to Youtube or something?
