As factories begin to reopen in China, Sony is confident in the PS5 still launching by end of 2020

Despite concerns over COVID-19 causing a delay in next-gen gaming console production, Sony appears to believe that things will proceed as planned, with the PlayStation 5 still launching later this year. Two of Sony's Chinese factories are set to return to a normal operating procedure, but the company is reportedly dealing with component shortages. In a comment to Bloomberg, Sony officially stated that even with the issues regarding closed offices in the UK and Malaysia and higher than usual operating costs leading to a loss in yearly profit, "it doesn't see any notable impact on the launch of its next-generation game console PlayStation 5 planned at the end of this year". They are also "carefully monitoring the risk of delays in production schedules for game software titles".

Who cares about ps5? xsx objectively better
Could say the same this gen; Xbox 1x is technically superior to the PS4Pro, and both the base xbone and PS4 are graphical powerhouses compared to the Switch, but it doesn't matter one bit if you have no games anyone wants to play.

..and until either machine is released, nothing can be regarded as "objectively better"

I mean at this point i would totally expect cv to ruin it. I mean as it is that is going to be hell awkward best case. So like i am someone who has always enjoyed the wait on launch night meeting other gamers showing them hacks on my psp or vita. That stuff is gone. We will be like 6ft between us if allowed at all. Guess i am using amazon this year.

Who honestly cares about the release date? It'll be just like the switch release but worse. 2-3 consoles per smaller stores and a very limited amount in big box stores.

From what I've seen so far, there's no immediate reason to get one on the date of release. Might as well wait till 2021.

Damn it, I had my pitchfork prepared.

Factories may be reopening but the rest of wests is in deep trouble for a while.
Exactly. With the global economy going the way it is, chances are people will have to prioritize whether to buy things that are a luxury or not. Price will be very important in other words.

Not just the West. It's spread more slowly to the developing world since those countries are less tightly integrated into the global economy, but it's starting to take off in those places too now. You can likely count on one hand the number of countries that currently have things under control, unfortunately.

Indeed. It's getting out of control and am afraid it won't get any better for a long time.

I try to get things that will be useful to me. Being useful to me makes me excited, having random junk taking up space less so.
A console with no games is not useful to me.
At very best it might be a hackable one some point down the line, however I would have to balance that with it possibly being the most unreliable model and model with fewest features.
