Square Enix says that the Final Fantasy VII Remake won't be delayed, but physical copies may be

As the COVID-19 outbreak sweeps across nations, seeing cancelations and delays has become a regular event throughout the crisis. Fortunately, the development of the oft-delayed Final Fantasy VII Remake won't be impacted. What might be affected, however, is the physical distribution of the game. Square Enix claims that they're keeping an eye on the situation, and are doing everything they can to make sure as many people as possible can play the game on its April 10th launch, but the Coronavirus means "it is increasingly likely that some of you will not get hold of your copy of the game on the release date". Square also mentions to keep an eye out on their official Twitter for another update on the situation, which will be posted on March 20th.

Given that this is just the first part of the game, I don't see the point of even getting it on the PS4 or just getting it at all atm. Sure, the Midgar section is longer, but when you still have a whole game after that, all I'm seeing is a reason to wait.

Backlogs will do that to your thinking on new games.

Physical copies are a necessity without rights being recognized for digital ownership.

but getting off my soap-box, this is not the worst news. They're just saying they don't know, but it could very well be. I certainly don't mind waiting for the physical copy.

The physical XB1 copy of Doom Eternal I ordered for my brother seems like it's gonna be delayed too. Not my copy of Animal Crossing for whatever reason though. Hmm.
My ps4 copy of doom was shipped today, if our postal service works as usual it'll be here tomorrow

People who go after a medium that actually has physical value and can be sold again are really just the lowest

Well, as soon as the Law is passed through you can do that with Digital copies too in Germany where i live. Its the first stept to banning physical media alltogether to reduce trash and relieve the environment a bit. Great thing too. I Friggin Hate changing discs. I rather have everything digital. And that way you would finally be able to get digital games as cheap as the physical ones for consoles. On PC its no prob with G2A and such. But on Consoles its pretty bad right now. Games that are for 30 bucks at amazon still cost full price 59bucks or such in the psn store. If anything, Digital copies should be cheaper to begin with. No Physical copies to pay, no people that stock the Retail stores aor anything.

Back to topic: I have to say i pity the People that wont be able to play right at the release.

Feels its more like an excuse to not pay up discs manufacturing costs :creep:

This is just like when Nintendo decided not to have a story mode or cut-scenes for Super Smash Bros. 4, their excuse was that "It was because people kept uploading the cut-scenes on youtube, and thus they were spoiled for the players, and were no longer rewarding within the game :teach:". Those so-called gaming industry giants are getting more and more counter-intuitive everyday. Don't you just love it when you wait for years on top of years for the next installment of your favorite game franchise to come out, and when your game is finally here, you're just about to pop it into the console, but then you'de be all like... "Ohhh wait I forgot to check out the cut scenes on youtube" :gun:. And I bet that square wanted to delay, and are rather being bullied into doing this by Sony. I mean who else would be all like "Yeah let's capitalize on the corona and hurray for the extra cash going into the PSN store" :rofl2:

Oh yes, I always found Nintendo's excuse about the story mode cut-scenes to be total BS from the second I've read it, eh.
And I wouldn't believe Squeenix to be totally innocent, after all, they're the ones that forced the developers of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, to add an idiotic microtransaction store, eh.
