So I used the two middle (of the four)p that go from the power supply to the main board. As for which one is positive and which one is negative I cannot remember. Also an fyi the fan will be powered on whenever the power switch on the back is on.spme people had found ways to solder to the main board to be on only when the consoles running but I didn't care to do that much. As long as it runs it's good, right.

Interesting results guys. Thank you for sharing! I will definitely take a look at the design to see how it can be improved.

I haven't had any fan issues. Mine spins right up. Yes, it is a 12V fan, but it will run at lower voltages. It just spins slower than at 12V. This is how PWM case fans for computers work all the time. The PS2 uses the same tech.

Where was there interference with the PS2 case that needed trimming? What model PS2 are you guys running? I tested this all on my 30001. Others may be slightly different.

I'm using a SCPH-39001.

My PS2 is a 39001 so that might explain the slight fitmebt issues. It looks great now that I did some minor tweaking with the heat shielding right near the corner under the power plug area. I don't know about the fan. For me it would not spin up at all at idle. I tested the fan in my comp and the plug on the PS2 all were good. I figured it would have spun up but it didn't, so I just grabbed my multimeter and found a 12 supply and it's great. Simple fixes. Still a great deal I feel.

Based on the picture you sent me a few mins ago Daoxer I think the fan connector is backwards or the wires are mixed up.

Also have a 39001 here that I'd love to add this mod to... if the few issues mentioned above get sorted out I'd be interested in picking one up for sure.

For $30 this 3D print includes the Noctua fan right?

Yes, it includes everything you need except a screw driver to open up the console.

Yes! Huge thanks to Izula for his help identifying the fan issue. It seems the power wires to the fan were wired incorrectly. I am going through my inventory and fixing this issue.

Well, I found the problem. The wire harness pigtails I ordered were not consistently colored! Some were red/black and the others had black/red. I soldered them together based on the color, and some are messed up. That'll be fixed on future parts.

Alright well the replacement wire came in and here's the results
The Good
  • Wire worked perfectly no issues
  • fan worked
  • Very quite can't even tell the systems on
  • Seems the HDD adapter fits fine
The not so good
  • The shroud/back plate does not fit or line up with the screw holes, system shell cannot be put on correctly
  • While the fan is quite it also seems it is pushing half the air( no way to measure, just an assumption)
  • You might want to shorten the black wrapped wire

Thank you A+ for sharing! Hope @Daoxer can easily make revisions to address these issues. Shipping will probably be screwy in the coming weeks with everything going on unfortunately.

would a 5v fan work better from the original fans power supply might spin even faster maybe too much voltage tho but its closer to 7v than a 12v fan is

Hey guys. Sorry about the lack of updates. This project got back burnered after the initial issues.

As a quick side note, if anyone is has issues with the one they got, please let me know and I will get the issues fixed.

That being said, I'm back on this and ready to fix all issues. To reiterate, the fan wiring issue is now fixed. So, the only other issue I know of is some fitment problems. To do this, I've decided to cover all my bases and get my hands on a few PS2 consoles to do actual physical fitment testing. This mod was initially done on my SCPH-30001. I've since worked with a few customers who have had fitment issues. So, I ordered a SCPH-30001 R, SCPH-39001 and a SCPH-50001. I think this pretty well covers the gambit of different PS2 fat models. If you guys know of any other ones that could be tested, let me know though and I'll attempt to find one.

I got the SCPH-30001 R and SCPH-39001 units the other day. The mounting for the fan plate is the same on these two thankfully. It is definitely a good bit different than the SCPH-30001. One mounting hole is completely in a new location. Also there are couple clearances that needed to be made for some sheet metal that isn't there on the SCPH-30001.

I am still waiting on the SCPH-50001 unit.

Here are some pictures though:

Hey Daoxer! Recently I hooked up a 60x60x25mm fan on the outside of the case with a couple of zip ties on a 3k model, it does the job but I definitley want to improve it, that's how I found your post. I saw that you used to sell this on amazon, but not currently, plus I live in Hungary and I guess you probably wouldn't ship it outside of the US anyway, so I was wondering if you could maybe send me the 3d file via email or something, so I could print out one. I could probably model one in CAD myself, though I'm still a newbie when it comes to modeling, I bought my Ender 3 only a couple weeks ago, so it would take a couple of days at least to get it right, but I don't really have the time do it with my current job. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out :)
Thanks!
