Earlier this week I followed the 3DS guide and used FBI to install some titles. Some installed cias boot up just fine (i.e., Pokemon Ultra Moon and its 1.2 update, Fire Emblem Awakening, Bravely Default and Bravely Second), yet the installed cia for Pokemon Ultra Sun and its 1.2 update keeps crashing. I got different cias from different sources, but the error remained.

Starting Pokemon Ultra Sun, I get the following error message:

An error occurred (ErrDisp)

Error type: generic
Process ID: 67115840
Adress: 0x00000d1a
Error code: 0x00000d1

Press any button to reboot.

So, I searched for the error message, and I found that the Luma 10.X error messages are sometimes nonsensical. Therefore, I got and used another boot firm file from Luma 9. That did not resolve the issue but gave me another, maybe a more insightful (not to me) error message:

An error occurred (ErrDisp)

Error type: generic
Process ID: 39
Process name: momiji
Process title ID: 0x00040000001b5000
Adress: 0x00346e74
Error code: 0xd900458b

Press any button to reboot.

Searching the forums for the momiji error message, I came across two threads that deal with the same error on the same game title. In the first thread a user gives the suggestion to import the seed for the title. In the end, the topic creator has not reported back with a solution..

The second thread I found a slightly more detailed explanation on how to get a seed. However I still do not feel experienced and comfortable enough with this 3DS cfw to try and follow the instructions. Plus, I do not know for sure if those instructions even apply to my situation. At the end of this thread, the topic creator did not report back with a solution either.

I have some newbie questions.
Question 1: What is a game's seed?
Question 2: Does anyone know what I could try to get Pokemon Ultra Sun to work (would you think it's the game's seed, or would you think of some other issue)?
Question 3: Can anyone provide me with or point me towards a step-by-step guide on how to import a game's seed?

PS: The reason why I am not trying out solutions willy-nilly is because I encountered big problems with my cfw before and now that I have my 3DS working again (except for Pokemon Ultra Sun), I am playing it safe.

I am sorry that this is going to be a long post again--if I am more likely to get more help with shorter posts, please let me know.

Going into FBI to update the seed for Pokemon Ultra Sun did not help. It feels like a dead end. Therefore I decided to look more closely at the error message.

01 ErrDisp foutmelding.jpg

Browsing in FBI, I looked in the Tickets list. The ticket for Pokemon Ultra Sun has a green colour, while the list shows only one red ticket.

02 ticket pokus.jpg 03 ticket dsp1.jpg

First, I performed a web search for the process ID in the error message--the one that has a green ticket.. I came across a GitHub repository that looks promising: it's the text file with the cheat codes for Pokemon Ultra Sun (GLO). So my thoughts are that something could be wrong with the cheat code list, possibly within an app like Checkpoint.

Would anyone know what the GLO stands for, though? I have not been able to find the answer to that.

Additionally I came across a GitHub SeedDB. For Pokemon Ultra Sun, the process ID in my error is the title ID of the game. This GitHub page has a short note:

Download a seeddb.bin based on the contents below
You may need to add extra seeds by installing a game and visiting its page in the eShop. Note that this only works for in-region games.

Now my ignorance is showing again because I do not really know what the seed does. It sounds like a security thing that checks if software is legitimate. Does anyone know if this is something I could or should look into? If so, what do I need to do (e.g., what to download for Pokemon Ultra Sun, how to get that file in the correct location n the internal SD, and what to do with it once it's there)? Or should I visit the eShop and do something there?

Finally, I searched the web for the other process ID (with the red ticket) and came back to these very forums. Someone experienced crashes on their 3DS and while their problem looks different from mine, they also checked the ticket list to find the red ticket. They find the process ID is for DSP1, which I installed while I finalised the cfw setup.

At the end of the thread, a user states they fixed the problem only I am unsure how they did it. It sounds like the users says they had the game installed, but then overwrote the game. So they installed the cia again while the game was already installed, or that's what it sounds like to me. No idea if that's what they meant or if that is even sound advice, but that's what I make of it.

In any case, that is the gained knowledge from my day. It leaves me with some questions:
(i) Does the ErrDisp have to do with the cheat codes for Pokemon Ultra Sun?
(ii) What does GLO mean?
(iii) Should I look into the SeedDB bin for the game?
(iv) Could the red ticket for DSP1 result in the error?
(v) Would overwriting a cia work and/or help?

Again, any help would be truly appreciated. I feel like I am finding puzzle pieces but I find it difficult to determine what pieces are useful, which are useless, and to piece it all together.

During the previous week I have tinkered with the problem in my spare time. Luckily, I have managed to get Pokemon Ultra Sun installed and working. It has taken some effort and I am not even sure what caused the problems.

Someone visisted with a CFW 3DS of their own. I decided to put some ideas to the test. First, is the cia-file in proper working order? Their 3DS was relatively new so very little stuff on it. I had this weird idea that having Ultra Moon interefered with Ultra Sun, maybe due to some save file sharing or location they are stored. Something along those lines: a silly thing not due to the cia.

I tried to install the Ultra Sun cia but kept getting an eroor. The SD card had too little space on it. Finally, after getting FBI to install the game and it working without a problem, I searched the web for installation and came across this GBA Temp thread where a better alternative to FBI is mentioned: BigBlueMenu.

Using FBI, I get rid of Ultra Sun and install the BBM cia, only to try and install the game again with BBM. This new installer worked like a charm. First installing the core game without update, it worked. After that, I tried my luck installing patch 1.2 using BBM as well and that worked out fine as well.

While I have no idea what the problem was, using BBM to install the cia-file seems to have fixed my momiji error.

EDIT: Maybe the problem resulted from an improper cia. I looked at a couple of different cia-files for Pokemon Ultra Sun, and then one I installed had a different size in kB than the others.Maybe it was a broken file or a different version (e.g., other region than my own). Either that screwed the installation over, having the wrong combination of version and patch, or it may have been something different altogether...

You can import the seed for a game that's known to require it with FBI.
Thanks for the reply. I did try to resolve my issue by downloading the seed via FBI. Nothing changed so that did not look like the root of the problem.

Check if your SD card is fake / faulty / dying.
  1. Copy everything off the SD card to a computer.
  2. Quadruple reformat.
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.
I also performed those three steps but it made my SD card unreadable. I think I set up MiniTools in an incorrect way. When the next day I reformatted the SD card with Windows Explorer to its factory settings, and subsequently used guiformat to go Fat32 with 32kb clusters, at least the 3DS could read the internal card's contents again.

Even though I feel happy and accomplished to have solved this problem, I only wish I knew how it occurred. That way, other users might know what steps to take in the future should they encounter the same error as I did. For now, all I know is that installing Ultra Sun using FBI left me with problems, and using BBM to install it resolved all issues.

Hi there. I'm currently having the same issue with Ultra Sun, the only difference is that it happened after i reset the game (delete old save files via the game itself). I have reinstalled the game already, same error occured.

Last option will be BBM. :I

Also if you dump that update yourself you can keep it and reinstall it whenever you want (even after Nintendo decides to shut the 3DS eShop down) the problem appears to be a bad update dump making the rounds... had the same problem. I deleted the update and downloaded the official update and it worked. i dumped that update myself with godmode9 an then deleted the official update and installed my dump to confirm and it worked.
