Halo 1 surprise launches on PC today

Surprise! Microsoft has just given fans a pleasant surprise by releasing the first Halo game on PC without warning. Arriving just three months after the first Master Chief Collection title on PC, Halo Reach, it's now time for Halo: Combat Evolved to take the stage. You can buy the game on Steam for $9.99, or you can get access to it as part of Xbox Game Pass PC. This version of the game supports high-resolution graphics and high framerate support, and is based off of the Xbox 360's version of Halo: Combat Evolved - Anniversary. If you prefer the older 2001-style original graphics, you can choose that as an option, as well.

Features
  • PC Settings/Optimizations: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is now optimized for PC and looking better than ever at up to 4k UHD and at 60+ FPS.* Other PC native settings include customizable mouse and keyboard support, ultrawide support, FOV customization, and more.
  • Campaign: Experience the second chapter in the Halo saga and fight your way as the Master Chief through 10 unforgettable missions.
  • Anniversary Features: Toggle between the remastered graphics in the Anniversary edition and the graphics from the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign.
  • Multiplayer: Continue your Halo adventure with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's iconic multiplayer featuring an updated progression system and over 19 unforgettable maps.

Still don't have this game. Is it fun? :ninja:

Huge Halo fan. And I love them all. But just a heads up. This is a 2011 remaster of Halo from the original xbox. So it's a old game. But it holds up good I think. Personally I think halo 2 is the best. And 4.but still a very good game.

I would only care about this if it added a way to play coop through the campaign, which was lacking in the original. Halo CE is one of my most favorite games ever and I love the old graphics, and the soundtrack was so damn good, and just.... punching though all those enemies with only one bar of health and dying a million times until you got to the next checkpoint is one of the things i genuinely enjoy now even though I hated it back when I was playing it for the first time.

They also brought back the old sound effects as an option so we're no longer forced to play with the awful Anniversary sounds.

The good news is that there is online coop.

absolutely NO reason to own an xbox these days PC has it ALL
and you get to play fps the way they were designed to be with m/kb not shitty slow unresponsive analogs
Consoles are convenient for plug and play though these days they try to be more like Mid-range PCs. I prefer holding a controller than a K/M, but for shooting games K/M are better.

Good news :grog:

I enjoyed Halo 1 on the go a few weeks ago using my GPD.
While the original is around 600MB, Steam HD version is 43GB. Even if enhanced version would run well at 8~10W, the space needed is a bit too much for a handheld device imo.

...but for shooting games K/M are better.
I wouldn't say better, but different: Halo isn't Counter Strike.

Halo is fully designed for controllers: size of the enemies, their behaviour, your walking speed, weapons mechanics, regen shield...Headshots are optionals, aiming isn't frustrating cause helped by subtile corrections...

Even RTS can be fully enjoyed on a controller when configured properly, even micromanagement can be done to some extent (I completed SC2, C&C3, RA3 and Halo Wars on GPD without a drop of sweat).

Yap, title's misleading - either poor wording or writer didn't know about the first port .o.
Ah yes, the first port from 2001. The one that everyone is obviously concerned with and has been in the public eye recently. What? How nitpicky are you going to be? “Second version of Halo 1 launches on PC today”, ah yes so much better.

Everyone knows what the title means lol. Halo 1 is on PC now. What else would it mean. There’s no misleading being done. Halo 1 is available today. Aw yeah totally clickbaited all the poor fools. They thought they were getting the 2001 port, but now they’ve been tricked! Muahaha!

I coulda gone with “Halo combat evolved anniversary edition surprise launches on pc today”, but that’s so many extra words that lead to the exact same conclusion that halo 1 does. Gosh dang.

I didn't know SC2 could be played on a controller. Do tell.

I uh... Already own this on PC. You can install it by just filling in the product key with all 1's. And to be honest, it felt like a very generic shooter with too much back-tracking, and every enemy was a bullet sponge. When you shoot them, they don't stagger or flinch at all, making all my guns feel useless.

Actually it's the 2003 port.
