Xbox and Samsung announce partnership for mobile cloud gaming

At its Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco yesterday, Samsung announced more than just its upcoming lineup of smartphones. In particular, the Korean company announced a partnership with Microsoft to bring a "premium cloud-based game streaming experience to mobile players".

“This is just the beginning of our gaming partnership with Xbox,” explained David S. Park, head of Samsung’s US marketing, on stage. “Both Samsung and Xbox share a vision for bringing great gaming experiences to mobile players around the world. With our 5G-enabled portfolios and Microsoft’s rich history in gaming, we are working closely together to create a premium cloud-based game streaming experience. You’ll hear more about it later this year.”

While more details were scant, it's likely a move to bring Project xCloud to Android-powered Samsung devices. Speaking to The Verge, Kareem Choudhry, Microsoft’s Project xCloud chief, seems to confirm those speculations with the following statement: “We’ve seen positive feedback from Project xCloud preview participants testing a range of Galaxy devices, and it will only get better as we continue to work closely with Samsung on refining the experience. It’s an exciting time to be working on Project xCloud, and we can’t wait to share more about our work with Samsung later this year.”

Park also revealed the upcoming Forza Street for Galaxy devices, with pre-registration open now:

Would you like to see Project xCloud on your smartphone?

Two shitty companies collaborating to create a shitty product. Why not donate that money to charity instead? Or burn it in a large fire so the homeless people in SF can have some heat for the night. Both of those things would bring more value to the world than anything these two companies could come up with.

I've owned Samsung products since the Galaxy S Captivate, and I've never thought they've made a product that would end someone's life lol. Yes, they messed up and they manufactured a bunch of batteries wrong, it happens, nothing is perfect. Also the problem was known pretty early on with the Note7 phones, and they were offering upgrades or replacements etc.
They responded appropriately and timely and have made solid products since that mishap. It's unfortunate that some people got hurt, but things aren't perfect.
I'd never mess around with batteries and put gas into a car without respecting the option that it has that type of potential to happen.
If the phone was designed with a user replaceable battery, like every galaxy and Note was until the S6 and Note 5, the recalls wouldn't have been a problem. Better still, it would have been possible for a third party battery to come out with a better capacity and life rating.

I only had to retire my note 3 from daily driver usage because it was an international model that lacked support for any lte signal bands. And then boxed up for good from being a glorified tablet, because even YouTube was no longer fluid on it.

Using a v20 now, but still got a Note 4 at the ready as a fail-over. Both with extended batteries so they actually last, unlike every sealed battery phone, ever.

Samsung makes phones meant to be improvised bombs. Apple was finally pressed into admitting they intentionally gimp all but the flagship model of any phone they make. Yet just like Sword and Shield, even with these failures, they still sell. Hard not to develop contempt for my fellow man, if they continue to demonstrate irredeemable stupidity.

Samsung should have taken the cue to keep the note with a user replaceable battery, so that the recall and replacement process could have been considerably less costly. Failing that, they should have cancelled the product line the momebt it started literally killing people. But no; instead they simply resold all the recalled phones to India. That, is why, i will never trust a Samsung phone again. That is where they demonstrated a complete lack of ethical behavior, and that is where I'm drawing the line.

They don't design them like that because users like to put their phone's in wet situations. Once they started making them water resistant, everyone jumped on the marketing train for it because morons keep wanting to use their cellphones while they're showering etc.

Again they won't make user replaceable phones anymore because of water resistance, plus it gives a bit more space, so they can squeeze a slightly higher capacity battery into the body. Also citation is needed for the whole India thing, I've never heard that, sounds like something made up imo.

The V20 allows extended batteries, and has waterproofing. So, the marketing can eat itself. Also, their idea of a bigger battery is a joke when a typical sealed battery phone doesn't even last 60 minutes of Pokemon go, as was the case with the Moto X Pure I had.

Until they start coming with 10k mAh or better battery capacities, there isn't a phone on the planet that can survive a day with me, let alone the two years carriers wanr to lock you into a contract for. Or anything thereafter. Experience has proven that no sealed battery phone even survives a single year, when it should be within warranty.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also, read a few paragraphs down into the wiki on the Note 7 and you'll find it was repackaged and sold as the Fan Edition

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_7

In July 2017, 9 months after the Note7 recall, Samsung released a refurbished version of the Galaxy Note 7 called Galaxy Note Fan Edition (marketed as Samsung Galaxy Note FE). It has a smaller battery of 3200 mAh and is supplied with Android Nougat with Samsung Experience UI, the operating system of the Galaxy S8. The successor to the Galaxy Note 7, the Galaxy Note 8, was announced on 23 August 2017 and released almost a month later.

The V20 has no waterproofing or water resistance (see https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v20-8238.php)
My last two phones (Galaxy S8 and S10+) both have sealed batteries. My Galaxy S8 is gonna be coming up on 3 years soon, it's still running on stock battery and lasts the entire day of use. With that said I'm using a Galaxy S10+ at the moment also with a sealed battery. It's new so it's not fair comparison, but the battery life in it is solid. Sometimes I don't charge my phone for a day and a half, and both have IP68 rating showing that they're dust and water resistant.

Again, not my experience. The last sealed phone i dealt with, the moto x pure, was an unmitigated misery. Even fresh out of the box, i had to charge it twice a day to get through the day. Full charge to dead in one hour of pokemon go. It goes on and on. And eventually, it refused to quick charge, so it then took ten plus hours to charge for a max of two hours of life per cycle.

That just sounds like a bad phone to me. I haven't trusted motorolla phones in a while. Also experience doesn't govern what is and what isn't. I've had good experience with Samsung, doesn't mean every product they make is good. Same with iPhone users.

When it's a consistent trend among makers, brands and a common design? It's impossible to not argue correlation; if not also collusion and causation.

These phone makers seem to wanr people tp drop four digits on a phone every month, enabled by idiots like Linus Sebastian and the 9to5ers that never leave Wi-Fi range or the range of an outlet to plug in and charge. Thereby ensuring stupid designs that make poeple Like myself suffer and angry.

I would continue this conversation but it's well outside the thread title and theme and I feel like you and I won't resolve the arguement since we cannot agree on common ground. Also I follow Linus, dunno how he has anything to do with the situation.

There's notjing to resolve as long as phone makers continue to make trash and sell it for flagship prices.

I bring up Linus because he in particular seems to spearhead a bunch of the worst trends. Dude would throw and smash a $10k cpu and then beg the maker for a replacement on camera, whine about a computer not having enough rgb when it's list up like las vegas, and for a while, was doing *daily* flagship phone reviews like he was actually spending enough time with one to know if it would actually be useful for anyone, much less himself. There was a period in time from 2017 to 2019 where Linus was literally walking around with a new phone EVERY FREAKING EPISODE. I'd had enough of his unrealistic bs and had to block his channel and anything featuring him so i wouldn't get it keep showing up in my YouTube feed anymore. And even when i think it's over, some ancilliary channel would start-up and reblog his stupidity.

I'm all for it I have a S10 and a Galaxy Tab S4. The S20 looks horrible so I'll pass on that model tho lol

Nothing wrong with cloud gaming I had experienced it on the PS4 Now it was good problem was the game selection. It doesn't require you to use space the only catch you better have a good internet connection.

No thanks to Cloud gaming. I am stick with physical discs. Cloud gaming wont success at all. Nintendo of President said that they are not ready for it but they will have Cloud gaming in the near future. Again, either way, I am not supporting cloud gaming. Stick with physical discs as tradition. I love to collect my favourite games. Cloud gaming, you cannot collected them as collector's item. NO THANKS!
this doesnt deal with xbox itself more like streaming xbox games to the mobile market which again would be trash on most US carriers

so xbox games made to be playable with 2 sticks,+ dpad+4 face buttons +start/select+4 shoulder buttons are streamed t the phone... how are you suposed to play it unless your always carrying a controller around to connect to the phone? or those mostrocitys that adapt to afew phones that are crap? streaming to something that has no native controls just doesnt work for me specialy if their portable in nature.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
