SEGA Ages version of Sonic 2 and Puyo Puyo 2 will launch this month, for the Nintendo Switch

sanic2.jpg

We've finally got more details on the new SEGA Ages version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Previously revealed to have Sonic Mania's Drop Dash ability and Knuckles as a playable character, Sega has provided the launch date for the western release, along with its price. On February 20th, Sonic 2, alongside Puyo Puyo 2 will be available on the Nintendo Switch eShop, for $7.99 respectively. Just like the Nintendo 3DS editions of classic Sonic games, the SEGA Ages port will be handled by M2.

Remember that to get the SNES Online version you need to do the whole online subscription thing. Sega might want people not needing it strictly to play one of the most iconic Puyo Puyo games (specially considering that you DO NOT need the online subscription to play).
I understand that, but not only is there two different "Puyo Puyo 2" but also puyo puyo champions, and puyo puyo tetris all on the same system which basically has all the gameplay that matters from the puyo puyo 2.

Just the same as sonic the hedgehog. Yes they have sega classics collection on switch and both sonic 1 & 2 included. Then sega ages sonic 1 & 2. They are the same game, except M2 Added some new things like spindash, drop dash, and that arcade mega play mode. Not really things people needed to play that game. It's true that they feature different methods of obtaining the game. Is still silly to feature the same type of game on the same system.

Maybe it's nice to buy the subscription and play the games, with a decent collection of games from nes and snes online app, maybe is better to just own the game and play it that way. But do we need 4 different ways to play what is basically the same puyo puyo on the same system? Don't you think there should be enough differences to have each of them mean a reason for existing on the same space? Is there a reason to own puyo puyo 2 if you already have puyo puyo tetris or champions?

It's truly the best version IMO. If you ever played the Sonic CD port on console/PC, it's similar in the regard that it modernizes the game to just look and feel better than the original did. Tragically, it's only on iOS/Android. No idea why they keep shuffling M2 out to keep making these ports, which while they're well done, makes no sense, considering the Taxman ones are 10/10 way better.

If only the input lag for controllers over BT, hell, even wired wasn't so bad that I've experienced less lag on my ODroidXU4!

So will this one also include an exploit? lol

I bought and saved puyo puyo tetris and held on to it for months waiting for the exploit to be released, ended up selling it for a bit extra.

We need the mobile version of Sonic 1,2 and CD on modern consoles
(i know Sonic CD released on the 360 so you can play it on the XBOXONE, but come on, PS4 and Switch users exist)
Still, the Switch version of Sonic 1 was pretty good.
Won't be getting Puyo Puyo 2 tho.
Already have Puyo Puyo Tetris.
I wouldn't mind SONIC 4 Ep. 1 & 2 from Android too, as it runs faster and more fluid than the console ports did.

Heck, Windows Phone had its own port and that felt like a GBA version which was pretty cool, imo. Or a DS game, depending on the windows Phone you played it on.

SONIC 4 was ultimately a failure, but I enjoyed playing it. Mainly episode 2 which was far more polished.

Always nice to see new Sega Ages releases, but I keep hoping we'll see one day Daytona USA being released. I'm sure the Switch could handle it perfectly. Heck, I'd be happy with just a PS3 version port.

It's hard to care about this when the Taxman versions exist and are far superior.

My thoughts on all ports of Doom that aren't using GZDoom. Brutal Doom kind of preferred, though I understand most mods haven't and still aren't made with Brutal Doom in mind.

Has that port to Horizon ever been fixed up, btw? I remember it had some weird issue with memory not clearing properly when you exited the game which led to crashes when playing games and/or apps when you were done with it.

Yea I'd kill for a Daytona port on the Switch. Any version would do but my preference would be Daytona 2001 (Dreamcast) because I'm all about Rin Rin Rink.

Maybe there's hope... Dreamcast 2001, PSXBOX360 2011... Switch 2021???

Then all we need is Sega Rally and we finally have the three greatest racers ever produced all on one system.

Say SEGA ports the crappy SEGA Rally 360/PS3 (2006, Revo or 3) to the Switch, how would folks react? Probably unhappy.

The only good SR games were these, in my opinion:
- SEGA Rally Championship 95 (Saturn, PS2, PC)
- SEGA Rally Championship 2 (DC, PC)

It took me a while to find the ISO of 95 for the PS2, but it was well worth it. Played it with my Logitech Racing Wheel and Pedals.

The PS2 with FMCB is a godsend.

I agree. When I said "Sega Rally" I was referring to the arcade/saturn (/ps2/pc) original, but Sega Rally 2 from Dreamcast would also be acceptable.

As I mentioned in another thread, with the PS5's backwards compatibility it may become the first ever home console with decent versions of the big 3 (Virtua Racing, Daytona and Sega Rally). I'd rather have them on the Switch though; that way I can take my Sega Racing with me...

is this sonic game not part of the genesis collection or the genesis mini?

It is but like all AGES ports, this has some extra features not in the original cart, like playing as Knuckles. The Switch genesis collection has some horrific input lag and the genesis midi has significant audio lag too.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

your joking right that's one of the worst 2d soncis ever made!

Worst 2D sonic still beats half the 3D sonics....

It's not that simple. The HD Remake was only released on Android and iOS, so even to this day there's still no PC, PS4 or XO version.

However, you can emulate Android on PC and there are tons of cheap Android TV boxes you can play the game on with a controller.
