Homebrew Question How likely will I be banned if all I want to do is extract a save?

No save injection, just extraction. I've been using Atmosphere for some time only to use homebrew that doesn't modify the NAND (like Retroarch) and had no issue (yet) but I was thinking of getting some info from a game save using a program like Checkpoint. Sure, I could dump the entire NAND to avoid possible banning and extract that way, but that would be a lengthy process when I just want data from a save, especially when I want to redump the save multiple times at different points.

I know it's not 100% safe. I just want to know the likelyhood of a ban from just extracting. If it's low enough, what precautions should I take to keep it low?

The reality: Nobody knows, friend.

What happens is people telling things from both sides and you need to opt to go with either one.
In my understanding:
Use EmuNand.

Unlikely.
I keep my CFW’d Switch online 24/7 and occasionally dump saves off my system (among other things) and am still fine :P
I'm just hesitant that even accessing the sysNAND in a manner outside of normal procedures might get logged, though Atmosphere is designed to reroute all logging to the SD card so the logs on the sysNAND stay un-updated, correct?

If I were able to use EmuNAND just as a way to have all system operations run from that so it doesn't alter the sysNAND, but be able to access the sysNAND for extracting the saves only, I'd go that route. But if we're talking about dumping the EmuNAND each time I want to dump the saves, then that would just take too long.

What games are we talking about, here?

AMS redirects crash & error reports to the SD card, and error uploading is disabled.
play reports, system reports and all the other things are still present.
But they don’t really matter unless you’re fucking with system saves or installing stuff.

Also you could dump whatever save you’re looking for by using memloader and hacdiskmount to directly access your USER partition and grab the file and extract it.

You should be able to do this without receiving any ban really. Just make a clean nand backup with the right files and then go offline, 90dns, stealth mode and all. Extract your saves, then restore your nand backup
Don't restore until you have your multiple save points
(I know this is a nand backup but it makes sense for the average user)

I can just dump the USER partition (via memloader + hacdiskmount) to speed up the save extraction process? Never used them before.

Yeah. Install and run memloader, select its eMMC option. Then on your PC open HacDiskMount, go into the file tab thing on the top, and select the physical drive option (don’t remember exactly what it’s called) and select Linux UMS Disk. Then it’ll show all the partitions and you’ll be able to mount any of them (you’ll need your biskeys as well).

Saves are in the save folder, once you find the right one, you can extract it using hactoolnet
Code:
hactoolnet -t save <save name> —outdir <output directory>

There’s probably a more detailed guide somewhere, but those are the general steps :P
