so sd gecko and sd2sp2 have the same bus speeds?

main perk is this is internal and tucked away and frees up a memory card slot.. but otherwise the same? and performance enhancements still being done via Swiss updates?

I think ill stick with wii/Wii U then, but I love seeing the gamecube get more love. and an 'ODE' if you want to call this that, for cheap

Hey, I plan on making a hard mod for DOL-101, is there any way you could help me locate where those traces go on your mother board? Or is Serial Port 2 functionality totally taken away from bios/firmware?

I have a gcloader for the gamecube, its fantastic.

And the sdmount from laserbear.

Too expensive for me, I'm just trying to make cheap accessible mods, I've only just begun working with CPLD/FPGAs, so thats not going to be an option for me.

There's no BIOS. The IPL does nothing for running software.
Ok, so that means one should be able to recreate the circuit on a PCB and hard wire it, no?
I wish I knew someone with an original to compare, if someone can take pictures, I'll send them some PCB's when its done.

Just to let you know

This project is being sold at Mercadolivre, it's the brazilian eBay:

https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br...mod-para-game-cube-adaptador-micro-sd2sp2-_JM

He's not selling the sd2sp2 board. He's selling only the project. And he's using the photos published here.

He is even using the OP's writing translated to portuguese:

"I made a schematic a few days go and got it working based on the pin out of the SD2SP2, an alternative for those that just have this stuff laying around and obviously already know how to solder. i need to order some 22uf capacitors had to kinda "improvise" one."

LOL :rofl2: damn, stole my pics and the test video! honestly kinda funny considering how easily available this is to find, i even made a reddit post for it.
Hopefully no one gets ripped off by this guy, selling a PDF that is probably just the image i made .

Edit: I reported the video as scam with links to the selling page where it is used and my original post of the video so maybe that will get removed, don't have an account for the selling site or i would also report him on the selling page, not that it would do any good.

Can I use a 6,3v cap instead of 10v?
you might get away with doing that temporarily the way i did with a cluster of 10v caps to meet the required farad, but i would eventually put in a proper voltage cap as it could be risky to the sd card used.

Do the alternate solder points need to be used on DOL-001s without serial port 2? Or are they only needed on DOL-101s?
not sure on that fully, probably depends on board revision, if the spot to solder on the port was on some of the 001 board without the physical port being there you could probably just solder to the normal points for a 001.

OK I figured it out. Took a while to test everything.

So my board is a DOL-001 NTSC Revision 1.1 with no SP2 Port. It has all the traces and the through-holes for the plug, but the plug is not there. The plastic housing has a hole in the cast for it, but the aluminum shield does not, so you cannot see the board from the outside.

The issue I had was this: FIL22 (the ferrite bead filter) was not soldered in manufacturing; I assume because it'd be a waste if the port isn't even used. It is on the underside of the board near where the plug would be. The nearby bypass capacitor is also not soldered, but being that we are using a capacitor already, I don't expect this to ever be an issue. So the result was the 3.3v line was broken. Because it's only a bead filter (honestly overkill for the most part and can safely be ignored), I just bridged the filter pads with a little piece of wire to get power to the port. It worked perfectly after that.

Also, I used ADA254 to hook it up instead of a leftover SD card to microSD card adapter.

If anyone wants to use this in the future, here's some general guidance: the 5v and chip detect (CD) pins can be ignored; The INT (interrupt) line on the gamecube can be ignored (it was never getting used anyway); you don't need two ground lines, only one; when using the 3.3v pin, the built in level shifter is not used, so you don't have to worry about the extra chip on it messing with anything; lastly, it has a bypass capacitor already soldered on, so you can just forget the 22uF cap.

The result is that it really simplifies things in my opinion and I rather like it as it feels more professional. Also, the width of the breakout board happens to be the perfect size to fit in the hole where the broadband adapter would go. So it's a nice little convenient place to mount it with access to the card from the outside.

Hope this info helps others in the future.

I'm just a couple month's behind you and have been trying to just wire in a sd2sp2 into a console with no sp2 port (D0L-001) with out success. then i come across this and mine as well is missing the bead filter on FIL22. so should i be safe to just bridge that conection and good to go without the 22uf cap?

Edit: nvm I just went full send and jumped the Fil22 and it works awesome now. thanks for you input really helped me.

I have a dol 001 with no serial port, and a broken JP motherboard that has one. Can i transplant the port itself to my working modded gamecube?

Im a beginner at this stuff so thank you in advance

I believe there are a few things missing other than just the port in of itself. Theoretically if you move over all the missing stuff it should work. But it is smd soldering so you'd need to be precise.
